I will go there no matter what you do or do not want in this question.
The Bible is vague about the alleged birth of this guy. But it's pretty clear about the time of death being Nisan 14.
I could argue all day about the whole thing being a myth, but if you want to suppose it is not, why would you want to doubt the book that you use to support your thought that he was not a myth?

In which month did Jesus die?
by Doug Mason ini am putting this out as an idea, as something to think about.. this assumes that the death and claimed resurrection of jesus has soteriological significance.
i am not seeking comments on the veracity of that position, nor with endeavouring to identify any model that provides an "explanation".. i am simply asking, did jesus die in nisan (march/april = "easter") or would it have had proper soteriological significance if the events took place in tishri (september/october)?.
is it possible - and i doubt there is any way of knowing - that the early christians found it useful to incorporate existing pagan "spring" festivals, as this enabled them to differentiate themselves from the jews' heavy focus on tishri?.

"We don't do that" - Serena Williams talking about celebrating birthdays
by vivalavida ini guess you can be physically out, like in a huge way, but definitely mentally in.. serena williams claims she won't be celebrating her daughter's first birthday.. i did know people like that, raised as a jw but never actually baptizing.
that didn't mean they were not messed up in the head though..

She can get pregnant out of wedlock and post pics of her in bra and bare pregnant belly, but she's a JW.

The people who decided the Scriptures
by Doug Mason inmany people over many centuries have been involved in deciding which documents were scripture.
there has never been unanimous agreement, including today.
only the church of rome took a vote on the canon.
-
OnTheWayOut
Deciding the "canon" and what did not make the cut was a big part of my self-education that helped free me from believing that any "inspiration" was involved in the writing of those books.
Another great factor was really discovering that no significant group of people on earth ever lived according to all the rules in the Bible. The Jews were given the rules and told that people "DID" follow those rules in the past, but that's just a fairy tale. -

New abbreviation POMOSI
by NeedToKnow ini was thinking that i’m not exactly pomo but more pomosi - physically out mentally out spiritually in.. anyone who is familiar with the life of raymond franz may understand what i mean.
so i haven’t been to meetings in a while and i’m so over the whole mind control thing but i do love jehovah and believe in his purpose for us.
the org doesn’t go about it properly imo so i have been doing my own reading and understanding.
-
OnTheWayOut
If it's POMOSI, then I assume you believe in some of what "Jehovah's Witnesses" teach or at least taught somewhere in the past. Perhaps you should look up the International Bible Students. (http://www.internationalbiblestudents.com/about.html)
I tell you what. I hate being preached to. I really do. So I won't "preach" to you why that would never work for me.
But I will say - drawing lines at what's true and literal and what's symbolic, how to discern ancient meanings of vague texts, and deciding what actual writings should be "the Bible" - all that makes it very hard to do a serious study of Christianity. Good luck.
edited to add: I think Ray Franz was still a bit POMI. I doubt all of us would agree on a clear separation between "spiritually in" and "mentally out." -

Why are they announcing 2019 conventions so early?
by Richard_I ini was just told there will be international conventions in canada in 2019. .
so i looked at jw.org and i see that there's a whole bunch of conventions now listed on the site for 2019.. isn't this odd?
normally we were told the location of conventions during the first week of january.. did they realize there was less in attendance in the 2018 conventions, and want to give ppl more time to make travel arrangements??

Why are they announcing 2019 conventions so early?
Someone here said it, but so that all JW's get the point-
Knowing that the GB planned dates for 2019 means they know the end of the world as we know it is at least another year away. Adding in future Memorial dates puts it off even further. -

Another JW "friend" bites the dust
by TerryWalstrom injust got word one of my favorite friends died a year ago!
only now have i heard about it.
he remained a devout jehovah's witness--so--he could not/would not speak to me.

Just think about that, will you?His religion predicted THE END and he remained another 40 years thinking it was going to come "soon."Yeah, many many of us know someone like that, often our family members. My mother would be one of those. Some get awake and some double down on their hopes when the date doesn't arrive as expected. My dad is going thru loss of people he worked with and lost touch with passing away. His union emails list anothrr one biting the dust virtually every week or two. It's that part of life we must accept as it reminds us that we are going to be the one biting the dust one day.My meetup group just honored the passing of one of our ex-JW's, only 62 years old. She will be missed. My wife tells me a bunch of names of people I knew from the congregation that have passed. Most JW's now are older ones who were sure the end was soon. So it will happen more and more.Sorry for your loss. Sounds like a good friend lost and then lost again to the reaper. -

Latest update: Finally Free!
by campaign of hate ini haven’t posted here in a while, although i have been keeping an eye on the posts.
i love morpheus bluntness and sbf optimism that jw chariot is going to fall of the cliff imminently!.
as the title suggests, the latest in my life is that i’m finally free!

OnTheWayOut
Hey, congratulations on finally being free.
I’ve had a few texts and missed calls, but expect them to come knocking soon. Going to keep my reasons strictly personal and if anything say I have doubts. I highly recommend this strategy to any one else in my situation.
That was my method of resigning as an elder and my light explanation for family. But I want to recommend that once you stated your case and walked away, DO NOT DISCUSS ANY FURTHER WITH ELDERS. Don't reply more than 'I am fine, no thanks.' to any text or call at your door. Never invite them in. If you felt pressure to meet with thrm (to avoid being df'ed) meet in public or at the hall, so you feel free to leave at any moment.

Jw funerals
by blisterfeet ini recently posted that i found out my father is sick.
i have not found out any additional information from my family.
i’m kinda on an “as provided” basis with information.

OnTheWayOut
I don't know your situation, but if possible, go see the living person to say your goodbye. Then if you are excluded or unwelcome to a funeral, you already had your visit and don't need their dog and pony show.

complete bullshit.
hey, if it makes you happy, protest away, but please dont fool yourself into thinking that its meaningful and dont think for one moment your self delusions are shared by anyone else.
That thought crossed my mind too. Kinda Rick-Fearon-ish.
But I will give the benefit of the doubt that maybe things have changed more than I know.
