Has it really been FIVE years?? wow....
by Scully ini just realized that it was five years ago, today, that i joined jwd.. i didn't think i'd be around very long - i didn't think i had a lot of residual "stuff" to deal with - was i ever wrong!!.
thanks to everyone who has made jwd what it is - a safe haven, a place for fun and friendship, a place to talk about our jw experiences and figure out what comes next, a place where we can offer support and friendship to people who feel lost and alone.
when i joined, there were less than 2000 members, and we've grown to over 25000 memberships.

Congrats, Scully, I understand that now you've put in five years complete you are fully vested in the JWD pension plan. I'll bet that for those 25,000 registered here there are 2x as many lurkers who visit and read (like I used to do) but for different reasons haven't registered. Here's to getting all those lurkers to finally let us know their voices.

OMG Trev in hospital now!
by fullofdoubtnow intrev (dedpoet) experienced breeathing difficulties during the night, and i had to call for an emergency ambulance.
he was kept in overnight, and is still there under observation.
he was conscious and breathing normally when i left him around 30 minutes ago, having been breathing through an oxygen mask earlier.

I'm sorry, Linda, I don't know about work rules and such in England. Does Trev get paid time off or paid sick days? Does he have a lot of accumulated days built up in a "sick days bank" (because he hasn't taken a day off in so many years???) I'm only asking because you sounded a little tentative with respect to him taking time off work until the end of the month and I sure hope you (both of you) don't have to deal with worrying about his employer getting pissy because he needs to take time off for awhile. I hope whatever it was that happened with the breathing never happens again. I agree with others who posted, it sounds like he was totally stressed out and suffered an anxiety attack - one's body sure has a way of letting one know when things are out of whack. Take care.

I don't have to watch what I say if I think something is B.S.; I don't have to drag myself to nighttime meetings after a long hard day at the office and I don't have to rush home from the KH to catch the Packers game. The money that used to go to the KH now goes to the local Humane Society - they spend the $$$ much more wisely, imho. I never stopped voting (although I never told anyone at the KH that), I never stopped associating with my worldly friends (ditto), and I made sure I DA'd instead of doing the slow fade (my circumstances allowed me to do so, not having any family in the org) so I wouldn't ever be bothered by the witnesses knocking on my door or calling me ever again. Ahhhhh, relief! There is life after the "borg". I met my fiance - a "worldly" man - 3 years after I got dipped - on the internet! LOL!

the da vinci code
by Sam87 inok i havnt seen the movie or read the book yet but im going to watch it tonight, i was having a discussion with my girlfriends sister about the movie, and she is under the impression that some of it is real, for example jesus getting married and having offspring.. from what i can gather she is coming to this conclusion because da vinci painted a picture of the last supper and it has hidden messages in it.
but she seems to beleive its true?!
what does one persons paintings have to do with whether jesus was married?

Agreed that the book is an entertaining read, and it reads "fast" too, it's not the kind of book where you put it down after a chapter and go "hmmmmm". I haven't seen the movie, but I'm a Tom Hanks fan and if the movie is available for rental on DVD I'll definitely give it a look. As for historical accuracy, as I understand it, the "Priory of Zion" is a crock, invented in the early 20th's century by a Frenchman. I did find it interesting that the person alleged to have concocted the background for the "institution" lived in a part of France that is historically known as an ancient center of goddess worship and there are, I believe, several great cathedrals and churches - all dedicated to "Mary, Mother of God" (just another name for the ancient mother goddesses of old, who were all "mothers of gods, mothers of the universe, mothers of the earth, etc. etc., Mary being the Christian incarnation of the mother goddess).
I find the subject of Mary Magdalene more interesting than any theory about her being married to Jesus. There is enough research and information available now about how the early church attempted to usurp the authority of female evangelists (that whole Pauline thing) and, once the church was hijacked by the emperors of the remainder of the Roman Empire ruling out of Constantinople, a deliberate obfuscation campaign was undertaken to erase MM's prominent role in the early church as much as possible.
As for the feminine-looking John in Da Vinci's painting of the Last Supper - that is entirely due, in my opinion, to some really poor prior "restoration" jobs and it would be, today, basically impossible to restore that figure back to what it was as originally painted and portrayed. I don't believe that the figure traditionally identified as the Apostle John is really MM. If it's true the figure is MM, she would have been the only woman there, and that doesn't sound like Jesus at all; wasn't he always mentioned in the bible as having his particular followers around him, even in his most "private" moments - and we KNOW even from the biased biblical accounts that Jesus' followers included SEVERAL women, some - evidently - of wealth and perhaps influence. If Da Vinci was such a rebel, would he not have chosen to paint Jesus at that last Passover surrounded by many women, as well as men? Nah - I'm sure he didn't seek after being burned at the stake as a heretic - so, he painted the Last Supper with the "traditional 12 men" around Jesus.

Who is dressing up for Halloween?
by love2Bworldly ini am dressed as a pirate at my job today.
i have a green scarf around my head, white blouse with black skull vest, short pants, boots, fake skull tattoos on my legs, a fake blue bird on my shoulder, one long earring, and fake scars on my face.
oh and my blinking skull ring which is so cool.. who/what are you dressed as, or have been to a party, or am going to dress up tonight?.

Not a costume for work, but I did dress in orange and black in honor of the day. We have "trick or treat" between 1 and 2 p.m. on my floor and some of the people wear hats and Halloween-theme shirts and such. During trick or treat the halls are filled with people going from office to office digging in the treat bowls set out. I always try to have the "best" treats, but the competition gets tougher every year! This year I even "decorated" - I put up a neon orange skeleton figure with orange blinking eyes!

Who I really am
by JWdaughter inthis is so stupid, but yesterday i was shopping and i saw this wild blouse and i thought-if i could dress how i really wanted to, i would buy that blouse.
i walked away and was thinking-why the hell shouldn't i dress how i want to?
because someone told me that orange paisley print is tacky?

"...paisleys are nothing more than very ornate sperms???? "
That's hilarious!
JWDaughter, that blouse not only sounds tres cool, it sounds like it fits really well and it flattering too! Batting a thousand, you go girl!
The times I "stepped out of character" and bought something I ordinarily would not consider wearing, things turned out really well. Remember those sexy disco dresses back in the 80's. Ahhhhh, those were the days - I actually HAD a waist then, LOL!

In no particular order: (1) scented candle (2) christmas tree ornament (non-breakable) (3) souvenir teeshirt from wherever my gift buddy lives (men's XL, please, and no cracks about the size) (4) local souvenir - for instance, here in Wisconsin, for gifts for my overseas friends I love moooo-cow "soap on a rope", cow-patterned coffee cups, a mini-cheesehead keychain, Wisconsin Badgers teeshirt, that sort of thing.

kn37 - 50 bible studies
by Zico inat the service meeting tonight the service overseer announced that the british bethel had received 50 requests for bible studies since the campaign.
this surprised me, though i suppose it's not really a huge amount, i wouldn't have expected that many.
also, our cong has run out of tracts, and we're only half way through the campaign, with lots of territory still to cover.

Fifty requests for bible studies? I find that incredibly hard to beieve! What size territories is involved? How many people (approx. population)? Perhaps your S.O. received doctored information - the people were actually ones found "at home" who received their "personal copies" of the tract in person! If it's not REALLY 50 people requesting studies in all of the British Isles (even that figure sounds too high), then I think the Branch is lying, lying, lying!
