  Learn to swim,

  I am relatively new to this forum. Prior to coming here I had not heard anything at all about the U.N. /W.T. link.

  I would like to ask you, since others have mentioned the YMCA and how the WT says one may not join, would you feel it proper to join only to use, say, excercise equipment, or the swimming pool? How would you view that? Also, would you say that you are proud of the WT for becoming a DPI with the UN or do you view it as an embarrasment? I am reading all posts with an inquisitive mind. Please respond.

  Nearly Lost my Son Yesterday

  i got a call from the ex, she was in tears, and said that our son was struck by car while riding his bike to work.

  when i got to the er, he was lying there in the bed.

  he was bruised & scratched.

  3 Page Letter Read In My Relative's Congregation...

  my elderly relative called me all excited about this "letter" that was read in their kh last week.

  she told me that it was all about being prepared for natural disasters, etc.

  and how the p.o and secretary were updating all their publisher files.

  Jim, I read your post and it makes me want to cry now to think about the children in the family that you helped. What happened to them when you discontinued the food contribution? Did the children think then that God no longer loved them? Were the witnesses eager to punish the children because the parents were weak attenders? What makes me very sad is that had it been me, I too would have discontinued the food gifts, being "obedient" to the elders.

  how can you effectively help a witness break the watchtowers grip on their minds?

  as a layman, i would think that encouraging someone to examine the history of their beliefs would be one way but many people don't like to do research.

  Yes, Carpenter, you are very astute. Women do respond to the lack of love thing. Also, I think the hard line on shunning is going to take its toll on women. You really can't make some women shun their children so easily.

  I do, however, think the impact of the dates and flip flopping doctrine is hard for women to take. Talk about insecurity. One day you must believe this, then the next......

  A very good question!!! There must be many still going who are having problems coming to grips with the new "generation" thing. I know that was very difficult for me, even though I tried not to think about it.

  Many are new to this forum, in addition, who have stated that they lurked for quite awhile first. Wonder how many are still in good standing who are privately lurking?

  when i got off for lunch today i decided to go to the walmart deli and get something to eat.

  it is a huge store, groceries, a bakery, mc donalds, a bank , eye center, beauty shop, a great deli, and a huge garden center.

  i had taken back a 80 gig hard drive dvd recorder ( i couldn't figure out how to hook up <smile> and had received 238.00. i picked up a couple of things in the store then went to the deli.

  I just went back and read your first posts on this forum. I am sorry you have been hurt by someone in the WT organization. I am inactive because my family has been dealt something very unjust. I have not been able to tell all the details either as of yet.

  I also feel that some are quick to jump on ideas that conflict with their own, even though they say all are welcome on this forum. In addition, I jumped on someone new to this forum because of what he posted that brought back the memory of the attack on my family.

  All in all, we must use our own brains and do our own research. This forum is not set up as a place to worship, but is basically a place to vent and discuss. I have learned alot here about the things that happened to others in the WT organization. The hurts run so deep for many.

  I still have not let it destroy my faith in a creator. I no longer feel assured that I know what to believe, however.

  I have vented on this forum because I needed to and the readers were kind enough to listen.

  I wish to listen to what you have to say, if you care to share more with us.

  its interesting how the wts tries to give marital advice via unqualified elders.

  recently a friend of mine and his spouse have been having martial trouble.

  he no longer believes the wts lies and maintains a low profile.

  Bumble Bee and Gordy, I am so sorry to hear about your past situations. Why oh why couldn't the elders use the time to encourage, to upbuild, to ask what they could do to help?? To say positive things about the future- to assure you that you can overcome adversity? No, instead, everything is SO NEGATIVE.

  I remember feeling so guilty because I had to go care for my parents over many weekends. I did not go as often as I should have because I felt that I must be out in service with the Book Study more regularly, etc. If only I could redo things, I would have gone more often, and stayed longer just to be with them. It is too late to be with my father now. He is dead, and at the end things were so difficult and I could have been closer to him.

  To those who are married, my advice is to cherish your loved one. Never take your spouse for granted. That you have a companion in life is a real blessing. To those with parents who are getting old and need help, be there. You will never regret it!!!

  Elders Are Closing In....

  well, it's been about 6 months or so since i've turned in a time report and things are heating up a bit.

  i still attend the meetings with my wife - i am still "visible" - but i have not gone out in service for a conspicuous amount of time.

  just this afternoon the po called and wanted to meet with me.

  The thing is, do they really want to "help" you or are they fishing? Don't take the bait. Many elders, I've found, are just waiting to cut their teeth on a really juicy committee meeting. They may have already determined that they know your attitude, or your thoughts for that matter, because they are happy to think the worst of a person. That is because they love to sit around and talk about "cleansing the congregation" of deadwood. Couldn't they just be happy that you are attending meetings? Perhaps you could just listen to them with a blank expression on your face, then say O.K. to everything they say.

  They will undoubtedly try to push your buttons to get you to incriminate yourself. You could just play innocent. Why do you have to play their game?

  Tomorrow is the BIG Day!

  it's the day that i am getting married!

  i've waited 42 long years for this day and it's been well worth the wait!

  although we cannot afford a big honeymoon, but we've been lucky to get 2 free nights at a local hotel, compliments by her cousin.

  AN ELDER SPOKE TO ME TODAY

  most here will know of the serious illness i've been fighting for the past two years.

  well, this morning i decided to go for a stroll to try and help build up my fitness.

  at the bottom of my street lives an elder from my old congregation and i have to pass his house.

  This elder did not go out of his way to see you- you passed by his house. How was this showing sincere interest in you? And since he never asked about you when you were very ill, it sounds like he just reacted when he saw you. He probably went back inside thinking he shouldn't have spoken to the apostate, how Christian he was, and how sad and lonely you must be without his friendship. Glad you had a pleasant walk, and you were the one who was nice enough not to tell him what you really thought of him.
