There was in elder in my Congregation who invested, and lost, lots of money from trusting, and vunerable brothers and sisters. There is one sister, who is a single mother, her husband died and she gave him the life insurance money. The others had received money from things such as inheritance. All gone. They are taking him to court, and suing him, as they say he used them. He says he thought he was doing the right things, and had the best intentions, but made mistakes. He was never deleted as an elder, as it hasn't been proved that he did anything wrong, but he was basically forced into resigning. I guess they were afraid he would bring reproach on the Org if he is found guilty. There was another elder who beat his wife, and didn't go out in Field Service for years, and rarely went to meetings, but other elders covered for him. Mainly the Secretary who was putting time in for him when he didn't put a report on. This was because there was a massive power struggle in my Congregation. The Secretary wanted to be PO, and as this elder was on his side, he wanted to keep him in. Eventually, the CO came in, and had the elder deleted, but only after my Dad, who is also an elder, complained to him. Shortly after the wife was disfellowshipped for running off with a worldly man. He was never disfellowshipped for beating her, and is now remarrying another Witness woman. He is coming back to meetings now, but has not been reappointed... yet. My Dad almost stepped down because of how angry he was over how badly the situation was dealt with, and how they tried to cover up for a man who was beating his wife just for the power, but he's stayed on to keep the Secretary from becoming PO.

The presentation I like to use, is quite simply just to say 'Hi, I'm just in the neighbourhood leaving these magazines with people today, would you like to read them?' Most people say no, a few say yes, but I doubt they read them, and I don't care much if they do, as I don't bother with the return visit.

Hi JWFacts,
I didn't know about the generation teaching, and I also thought that it was the members who came up with the 75 date, and not the Society! When I spoke to the same people about this date, they thought the same thing, except for one guy who knew, but had the theory that Jehovah had used the date to cleanse the Congregation... I'm surprised the Society never used that one.
So, at what point did you brothers and sisters in 1975 realise that this teaching was wrong? What was that feeling like? -

What would the wts do if most jws refused to shun people who leave?
by fullofdoubtnow inmany ex jws and faders agree that being shunned, or the thought of being shunned, is the hardest part of leaving the wts, and undoubtedly keeps many in who would rather be out.
i wonder what would happen if the majority of current jws defied the rule and refused to shun leavers.
would there be mass df'ings, which would leave the ranks somewhat depleted, or would the wts be forced to change it's rules?.

I would have left this religion by now if it wasn't for disfellowshipping.
Disfellowshipping, is cruel, and illogical, but it is in the bible, so the Society will never change the teaching.
If they ever did remove the doctrine, I believe the 'apostates' would come out in full force, and the numbers of the Org would drop dramatically anyway, they need this teaching, to keep control of the members, and to restrict people like me from speaking their mind. -

I'm sure it was shocking Outlaw! I can only imagine the disappointment those Witnesses must have felt in 1995 when they were told that maybe Armageddon wasn't as close as they first thought... I guess the same feeling as those poor Witnesses living through January 1st 1976.

It's not an answer to your question, but I'd never heard about the generation teaching till I joined this board. I was 9 when it was changed in 1995, and I don't remember it. I asked a few of my JW friends around my age and none them had heard of it either. I found it amazing how easily the Society managed to cover up such a major teaching in such a short amount of time.

If JW's put any thought into what the New System would actually involve, they'd all realise that it's going to be a bit crap. Like I used to, they only think about what the Society pictures show them, and never the fact that there'd be no sewage systems, or electricity, or about all the buildings they'll have to tear down, and the bodies they'll have to clean up, and that they'll have to grow their own food etc... etc... When you see the pictures of happy families with resurrected ones, the world has always turned into a paradise already. It ignores the fact that it would take at least a thousand years for a few million people to turn the world into a paradise. The resurrected ones would have to come back during the rebuilding to help speed it along. Think of the poor Witnesses who would get assigned to China/India.

The Watchtower doesn't care about the people, they just want to use every opportunity they can to have their members preach.

Divorce Rate of Those When Young??
by buffalosrfree inmy daughters were at a club the other evening ( saturday) and ran into 5 witnesses they knew as younger children, they had all been married and were in the process of getting divorced.
four were men, 1 woman, two of the men we had known literally for years and i had liked them all.
i had told my children when they got married that it wouldn't be long before they were married.

I'm only 20, I'm not married, but I was in a... serious relationship at the beginning of the year when I was just 19, and was even considering proposing, until she shocked me by breaking it off to 'put spiritual things first'. I was guttered at the time, but after finding this board soon after, I realised what a lucky escape that was. She was a nice girl, but far too dedicated to an Org that I now want to leave, and I know I'm far too young to make that decision. In the last year, and in the next year to come, a few of my JW friends around my age have been married or are to be married. I do not think ANY are compatible, and I am sure they will all struggle. I know of one married couple, both are 24, and have been married almost 4 years. They are both clearly miserable. The girl even opened up to me once that she didn't want to be married her husband, but she can't leave. It's so sad.

How many of those JW's will stay moral simply because they are afraid of getting in trouble? Or just to look good? Some JW's are genuinely moral, but so are many worldly people. Often though, it's just an act, it's incredible what some JW's will do when they know that nobody is watching.
