  well, i stumbled onto this site and decided, after reading a bit to post.. who am i?

  i am "no longer one of jehovah's witnesses" as they say now, they no longer use the word "disfellowshipped" in the announcments now.

  why am i df'd?

  but have decided that no matter what I will "serve my time" to get reinstated so I won't have this stigma hanging over my head so my family can talk to me again. At that point I think I will do what so many others do, just drift away.

  Good luck to you. Be very careful - this is a tactic that the elders are becoming somewhat savvy about. Talk about the Spanish Inquisition! Hard to believe we are strategizing about preserving your right to associate with family and friends, when Jesus' original message was to "love one another!"

  Nothing but Bad News Lately

  my wifes nephew tried to commit suicide again, my step-son just called and has been diagnosed as having diabetes, and my grandson just lost his job.

  what's next?.

  Why are we so mad????

  we were trying to figure out which religion is suited for us and he found this site.

  it is interesting that the description an jw's say that it is unusual that when people leave them....there is alot of resentment, unlike other religions.. i think it is due to the brainwashing....when you have believed something blindly, then discover you were decieved...it is worse than if you are a part of a religion where you can believe all they teach...or not.

  I don't know there really ius one absolute truth. Satifying our need for spiritual connection doesn't mean that we have to believe every word a religion teaches.

  What if the many roads are all the various religions but the single path is what lies within us?

  Lee beat me to it. I agree. As Dubs we were indoctrinated with the concept of a choice between "true religion" and "false religion" like there is a secret code to finding out. Now I look for the spirituality, the "fruits" of kindness, comfort, acceptance, tolerance, hope and love.

  My mom finally did it!

  i guess i wasn't surprised yesterday to find a letter size envelope from my mom in my mail box.

  i didn't have to be psychic to figure out that it was the new tract.

  she was also "nice" enough to include a watchtower from sept (i think 06) entitled "when a loved one leaves jehovah" and of course he underlined many points for me.

  However, the elderly Dubs have invested too much of their lives to leave at the end. That would be admitting that their whole life was based on nothing and that's more than alot of people can bear.

  I agree. But the flip-side of this can be a relaxing of shunning practices for some individuals.

  For example, my aunt (66) and uncle (80+) both lifelong JWs, recently visited me from out of town (they were here for another aunt's JW memorial). My ex-JW mom was here, too. We hadn't all been together in 20+ years due to shunning. But we ate and drank and laughed like old times at MY home which I share with Mr. Bee to whom I am not married! Hah! How weird is that? These are witlesses in good standing. When asked what is different now, my aunt simply said, "It's just what I want to do."

  My opinion is that some of these elderly Dubs are making some compromises because deep down they KNOW. Millions living are now dead. They've seen the passing of too many of their own parents, siblings, friends, etc. who believed Armageddon was "just around the corner."

  Yeah, some cosmic corner, light years away...........

  I am happy for Triton or anyone who can approach life so simplistically. I'm sure, too, that when someone holds a gun to your head and steals your wallet, Triton, you feel no righteous indignation, but simply refuse to "cry over spilt milk." Life must be like a warm bubble bath for you.

  most threads on jwd have little to do with the jw's, and more often than not, the most popular ones are political and philisophical diatribes, full of back-and-forth rhetoric that rarely comes to any meaningful and productive outcome.

  most of the issues are repeats, the same arguments over and over, often with the same exact participants.

  so how does it affect you?

  is it just me, or do other people hear this phrase as another 'jwism' (ie.

  Blow up at an elder lately?

  i consider myself to be an extremely tolerant person.

  i'm one of those people that are extremely yielding, never get into confrontations and things of that sort.. i've been fading for about two months but instead of being smart like everyone else on the board and doing it gradually, i simply just dropped off the face of the earth (by witness standards) and just focused on school and work.. theres one elder that has been calling my family asking about my whereabouts, the times i'm home, my cell # and all the good stuff.

  i wake up at 6:30 in the morning to the guy calling me, i dont bother picking up but he leaves a message.

  If you don't want to be DA'd, I would tell him that you're very busy with work and school. This will annoy the hell out of him but they won't DA you (although you'll be considered "spiritually weak")

  ............don't forget 'depressed' and 'experiencing health problems' (anal cancer is popular right now), but don't give them DFing ammunition.................
