New JW... One Can Only Dream
by Gustv Cintrn inhere are a few of my wishful thoughts that, if came true, would make me enjoy my religion even more:.
no more end of month time reporting.. delete one of the 1-day circuit assemblies.
may replace with a 'special meeting', such as the one we had last year.. eliminate friday from the big convention.. no more international conventions!

I am sooo screwed
by Yondaime inso last night i was talking to my sister about how i admired president obama's speech to the u.n that happened earlier that day.. i then compared the extremism of isis to how much of a fanatic my jw bil is.. at the end of the statement , my mom walked in to the kitchen.
she was standing in the living room and she heard everything i said.. she called the elders that night to tell them what i said so they can counsel me.. i'm going to meet with them after the meeting on sunday!.
what do i do?!!!!!.

They will counter with how the JWs are not like ISIS. So, you start with that with your mom. Mom, I know the JWs are not like ISIS. JWs preach peace, will not go to war. JWs dont' force anyone to join or be baptised.
But, like ISIS JWs are a fundamental version of their religious roots. Both teach "us verses them". That, no JW can deny. T
They also both teach that one can not "go against" or "leave" their religion. There are different extremes in the punishment doled out. But, no JW can deny that either. Tell them that you know the JWs are not ISIS, and you are not afraid to voice your opinion.
After 9/11, the Irish Republican Army (or whatever it was called) stopped its bombings and terrorism. I'm sure the UK JW's on this board will explain or correct me, but that's the basic gist. 9/11 caused the Irish to reflect upon what the means in which they were using to fight.
Likewise, ISIS and fundamental Islam may cause individual JWs or the Organization to think about the means they use. But, that isn't going to happen until an organic movement starts to make the comparisons. Becuase the old farts at Bethel don't change.

Just say that the BIL takes the JWs to the extreme and it turns into a bad witness. We all know a JW fanatic who everyone in the congregation goes, "Geez, man, lighten up!" Preach moderation and explain that that was what you were trying to say. JWs should be moderate. JWs who are not moderate, the ones who go "overboard", end up not being liked. They drive their own kids away from the Truth, become judgemental, and end up judging others. JW extremism is not good either. Stick with that line.

My jw mum threw us out.
by abbasgreta inmy brother (non-jw but became a christian 6 months ago) and i nursed my aged jw mother back to a semblance of strength over the last three weeks.. the elders were happy to pass the buck on to me, her da'd daughter and my bro.. he has been living with her for 3 months and has transformed her ill-kept home and garden and literally nursed her like a professional alone.
before i stepped in to help him care for her.
he repeatedly told her how much he loved her and was so caring, it brought a lump to my throat.. he has been going to church sunday mornings, telling her he 'was meeting up with friends' so as not to cause friction.but she knew where he had been.. we noticed a shift in her demeanour towards us (she knows i'm a church-goer) over the week-end and she started to.

You can't help mentally ill people. They can't face reality. It sounds like your mother has alot of issues. She is blaming you, because you are the scapegoat. She is an angry person inside, and is throwing that anger at you two becuase you are the closest ones around.
You two need to get away from her. She is toxic. The Jehovah's Witnesses are a symptom of her toxicity. Remember her for any (if any) good times you had. You two did your best, and have to remember that her behavior isn't your fault. The congregation ain't going to do crap for her.
The next time she gets into issues, call elder care and have her committed to a psychiatric institution, even if its' for a few day watch. Keep & document anything she says that's not normal, and anything that is remotely threatening to herself or others. Your best bet is to get her into a nursing home.

My DF'd father going in for cancer surgery
by PaintedToeNail inin january or february of this year, my father was df'd for viewing pornography.
he was diagnosed with a rare-ish lung cancer in august, it doesn't have good recovery odds.
he had been struggling with a porn problem for awhile, asking the 'brothers' for help.

So sorry to hear about your father. I hope he is able to be comfortable. Does he have any bucket list items that you can reasonably do together?

Today's WT study! So hypocritical!
by stuckinarut2 inso today's study is all about being kindly, and not judgemental to those in the congregation....we don't know their circumstances etc.... i can't believe the hypocrisy being spewed out...both in the article and by means of the answers from the audience!.
we know the reality is so different!
unless a witness does everything exactly as the gb directs...in every aspects of life, they are effectively no longer a good person, but are viewed as spiritually lacking or weak..... they are going directly beyond the biblical directives, and being ones who condemn, rather than ones who commend!.

Read the book. A micromanaged world, where no one knows (or asks), why things the way they are. All memories of the prior life were wiped clean, except for the Giver. In a way, it's what I imagine the JWs would like to have as their Paradise.
