What are you REALLY like?

it is strange chatting on the net, not knowing what everyone is really like.

do you pretend to be someone you are not?

i find it hard to know how to take people here sometimes, as words do not convey as much without seeing the facial expressions and hearing the tonal inflections.

I have a goofy sense of humor that kids like. I see things differently than many people. I'm both a detail-oriented here & now person and future oriented, big picture thinker. I'm independent and pretty self-sufficient.

I've had a few people tell me I'm the smartest woman they know. Evidently, they don't get out much. Most people say that I'm nice. I'm usually patient, but have to fight road rage.

I'm kind of quiet, a little shy and an introvert. I'd rather curl up with a book than go to parties. Definitely a hermit. I prefer being around small groups of people. I gravitate toward older ones and the kids. They need someone to listen.

In conversation, I ask a lot of questions. I'd rather learn about people and ideas than talk too much about myself. I don't think people in general have enough authentic conversation. We put on masks. My challenge is to unmask and invite people to share what's really on their minds.

someone gave me a little book many years ago that was nothing but one-line sentences, starting with the words, "i've learned that .

" and followed by the age of the author.

some of these little sentences were hilarious such as; " i've learned that if i turn my ice cream cone upside down, i don't have an ice cream cone anymore.

Thanks for the WT study. There are more women mentioned in the Bible than I realized. Here's a list of women in the Bible, taken from another site that was taken from an unknown site. Women were not valued for much beyond their wombs, and it's only exceptional ones that were mentioned in any significant manner.

My mother's meltdown

okay, another self-indulgent post from sass about my mother.

this one's a keeper, it's today's cellphone text war.

a bit of background; she's had the book study moved from her place as her conscience doesn't permit her to have it there while she's still in contact with me, her disfellowshipped daughter.

About the df'ing thing. It's interesting what the penalty was under Mosaic Law - no stoning if the girl was not engaged. Instead, the guy had to pay her father, marry her and wasn't allowed to divorce her. JWs now impose spiritual death.

Something I have noticed

the last few district conventions i've been to, i haven't really been paying attention.

at lunchtime i'd kind of just keep to myself and wander around.

and i started picking up on something.

Hi Muaddib, Men in general are less inclined to continue in or join a restrictive religion. That means that the ratio of single women to men is something like 2:1. So the guys have their pick of chicks and get far better looking girls than they might have if the playing field were level.

Spawned in the U.S.A.- Cults

sometime back in one of the wts mags the question was posed as to why god would choose an american (russel) to head his earthly church rather than say someone in africa or asia.i think the writer was from a middle eastern country.the society replied that if jehovah chose to use an american that was his prerogative.so there!

but it does seem to me that the u.s.a. does have more than its fair share of cults and religious nuts.

is my impression right?
