Who told them it was THE TRUTH???
by LouBelle inafter reading the article in sept 1, 2005 watchtower i was again astounded at the hypocrasy.
and the question came to me - who ever told this religion or the people that started the religion they had they truth - it's a matter of opinion surely????.
how do they know it's the truth - they wouldn't be able to answer.

They have the truth in their hearts, or so they used to tell me. which makes me wonder how so much bs came out of their mouths

Exit from the JWs
by KAYTEE inmy exit from the jws, was roughly as follows-
our final letter to the congregation was in the form of a resignation.
we made at least 15 to 20 copies and sent the majority of them to so-called friends, 2 days later we sent the original to the body of elders.

Hi Kaytee, congratulations, you have done yourself the best favour you could ever do getting out of the borg. Like you, at one time most of my friends were jws, now I have no jw friends. Their "friendship" is totally superficial, and dependent on you remaining one of them. Once you leave, you become persona non grata as far as they are concerned. On the other hand, the friendships I have made outside the borg are not conditional on me being a certain type of person, and I am sure it will be the same for you. All the best, enjoy your freedom.

my brother may have seen the light
by Ellie in.
my younger brother may finally after 2 years have seen jehovahs witnesses for what they really are.. the whole time he has been studying he has had no social life, they have been happy for him to go to meetings and out on field service but nobody has wanted to bother with him socially.. he has been living in the house of my older sister who is a devout witness and a bit of a cow.. anyway, a few weeks ago she asked him to leave as she didn't think he was trying hard enough to 'make the truth his own', so he moved in with a couple of his collegues who share a house.. anyway, he has just been round to my house and told us that he has had a brilliant weekend with these 2 collegues, he even went to the pub yesterday and met a girl and has been on a date with her today.. this may not seem like a big deal but it is, the difference in him was phenomenal, he seemed so much happier and its given me hope that he might finally be breaking free.

Great news Ellie, it sounds to me like in his case, the brainwashing hasn't taken full effect, and hopefully he can escape without sufferring the negative effect that the jw religion has had on so many of us. I hope he enjoys his new - found freedom so much that he is never tempted to go back.

I done a bad thing...
by Elsewhere inafter reading the sept 1 2005 article about the mennonites in which the watchtower society condemns the mennonite church for shunning former members, i could not resist the temptation to send a letter to my parents about it.. after my letter i included a copy of the article with key areas highlighted.. [parents' names],.
someone pointed out a very interesting article in the sept. 1, 2005 watchtower mennonites -- search for bible truth.
in this article the mennonite church is condemned by the watchtower society for shunning members who studied the bible and came to conclusions that are different from what are taught by the church.

Good on you Elsewhere, it might make them think about how unfeeling the practice of shunning is, but I seroiusly doubt it

Worldly Relatives
by sammielee24 inwhile you were a jw how badly did you feel obliged to treat your non jw relatives?
did you not visit with them?
did you keep your kids away from them?
-

When I was a jw, I still visited my relatives a lot at first, but a "kindly" elder suggested I limit such visits so as not to be weakened spiritually, and I took his advice. I still visited occasionally, and I am sure they knew why my visits became less and less. When I left the wt, my family breathed a sigh of relief, and never commented on my infrequent visits during the jw years

Films/movies that resonate with Apostates
by Black Man inthere are a few films that i really connect with that sum up my j-dub experiences........ .
shawshank redemption: if you've ever "served time" at bethel, you can't help but connect with this film.
institutionalization, mental persecution and "andy dufrene crossing through 500 yards of shit, came out clean on the other side.

I agree with jgnat, the Truman Show remindes me so much of the jws its unreal
