Zeroday, Amen. This has been therapy for me. Too much time? Sometimes. But not as much as I've given Watchtower.

Do you find yourself spending too much time on this site?
by restrangled ini continually check for new posts, and enjoy the fluff as much as the serious stuff.
there are so many different personalities and it so interesting to see any ones "take" on a subject.
the intellect, humor, or just honest responses and real life experiences fascinate me.

How can twelve years olds get baptized? it is crazy!
by happehanna inmy daughter's step child is getting baptized at the ripe old age of 12.. my sil is angry and i feel he should try and stop it through the courts, but they feel that would make his ex more determined for baptism to go ahead.. this child has no idea of the mistake they are making .
would she get married at 12?.
it is so sad and irresponsible for a child to take this step.. .

I was baptized at 11 under pressure from an elder in the congregation. I wish I had waited. By 17 I was questioning the whole thing. Buit by then it was too late as I felt that any deviation would mean shunning which I was definitely NOT prepared for.

Concept of Forgiveness..is it an essential element of dealing and healing?
by My MILs worst nightmare, a nonJW ina famous family counselor/author/lecturer/pastor presented the following opinion about forgiveness during a conference that i was videotoaping.
he said that when an abuse victim finally reaches out, the majority of christian counselors tell the victim to forgive the abuser as a means of dealing and healing.
he asserted that in his opinion this is a very unchristian thing to do since you are asking the victim to do what even god does not immediately do.

Even the Awake, for all of its insensitivity says this. There are some crimes that, while we may let go of the bitterness for our sanity, should not be forgiven if the perpetrator hasn't expressed sincere remorse AND done their best to make ammends.

College Degree = $23K more a year salary
by under_believer incheck out the news on this recent press release from the us census bureau.
here's the google news listing for it (so you can see all the places this story has been covered): click here.. .
lest anybody think the society is taking a softer stance on this issue, well, they're not.

Well, sure it does suck if you're a high school dropout trying to support a family of three on a salary of 25k and still expected to maintain active field service, meeting attendance, etc., and insist that your job work around your rigorous religious schedule.
When I think about this, I start to think that the GB hates the average publisher. How could they tolerate such a state of affairs?

Why do we tell our stories: reconsidered
by Lady Lee inmany of us were victims of various kinds of abuse: physical, emotional, sexual and definitely spiritual abuses.
many people have created an atmosphere where it is finally safe for us to tell our stories.
we do this for a variety of reasons.

"not a single person but is made up of many individual antichrists."
So it must be an antichrist CLASS!

Another Form of Torture
by truthsetsonefree inwhile watching a show on torture devices on the history channel tonight it occured to me that disfellowshipping is really a form of psychological torture.
interestingly it has been shown that torture does not guarantee accurate information.
confessions extracted by torture are routinely thrown out in our legal system because of this.

Having been on many JCs I have seen first hand how much pain people go through. People, men and women, come in crying uncontrollably. Scared. Some of them get df'd anyway. A few appeal, thinking that will get them somewhere. They go through the whole thing twice. And when one does get overturned, the original JC often disagrees. That forces effectually a second appeal to the Branch. All this time they are not to be told what is going on. Sometimes elders stonewall for weeks while letters and phone calls go back and forth to the Branch Office. And then in most cases they get df'd anyway.

While watching a show on torture devices on the History Channel tonight it occured to me that disfellowshipping is really a form of psychological torture. Interestingly it has been shown that torture does not guarantee accurate information. Confessions extracted by torture are routinely thrown out in our legal system because of this. Given enough time any confession can be extracted. In the same way, many people apply for reinstatement. Watchtower uses this as proof that df'ing is right. But as with physical torture, it doesn't mean that these people have come around to Watchtower's way of thinking.
Additionally, just as the psychological effects of physical torture can remain with the victim for the rest of his/her life, many never fully recover from experiences with this particularly cruel part of dubdom. Which incidentally accounts for much of the anger expressed regarding Watchtower who have the power to stop this treatment.
