Shepherdless, would a jw get a talking to by an elder eventually if they did that on a regular basis? and how do jw's not do that on a regular basis? My house is a do not call so I haven't seen their presentation in awhile.

Alternative witnessing
by Zyron inthose of us still attending meeting are actively encouraged to use out tablets or smartphones to direct people to jw.org.
how about, after doing the standard presentation casually say to householder, you can also look at this forum to read of experiences of life as a jw as well as the official version?.
obviously you need to be working by yourself or with a pimo jw..

If you were brilliant enough you could make a flash of "Help, I am stuck in this cult! Do not go to jw dot org. You may risk losing life and family if you do. Please do not let my jw partner know you saw this. Thank you." It would flash fast and if you kept your device tilted just so your jw 'friend' would not even see it.
Well, something more clever but you get the idea.

Unwritten Theory
by moreconfusedthanever inhave any of you heard some theories from jws that are not based on scripture?
i have, in the past few days, heard a couple that have me shaking my head.. first one is that since satan was around during the creation period and probably watched on as things were being made, it is possible that he is responsible for the creation of some of the more hideous and nasty creatures that live among us.
surely god wouldn't make horrible things.. second one is that satan already had a bad attitude before the creation of adam and eve and was collecting followers among the other angels early on and stirring trouble.

Not positive put pretty sure my jw believes satan made things like mosquitoes, ticks, flies, etc....sigh. Some things in life you are just better off not knowing so that is why I don't outright ask him. (besides it would violate the unspoken rule of not discussing jw things). I already think he is half nuts for being involved with them in the first place, if I truly knew every goofy thing he believed I'm not sure I would be ever be able to keep a straight face while talking with him.

Re: Mentally diseased
by carla ini have been thinking about the mentally diseased belief/doctrine of jw's lately and the thread the other day about the mentally challenged child who was brutally (and humorously) honest at a convention got me to wonder something.
it seems to me that jw's use 'mentally diseased' in such a derogatory way as if it is a failing on the part of the person, or almost sinful (demons?
), or perhaps that person should just be dismissed on all counts all the time.

Now, what if someone truly is mentally challenged in some way shape or form? do they even stop to think that their perception of mentally challenged people might hurt feelings of said person or that of their parents and family?
Or do they have a twofold belief of mentally challenged? one being those who truly are (downs syndrome, etc..) and those who 'choose' to be by claiming they are anointed? What is your experience in a kh?

If the child isn't baptized then technically the child is not a jw, right? don't they use the "he's not a real jw" when someone commits a heinous crime? if the guy wasn't baptized then the jw's don't consider him to be a 'real' jw. (That's the line my jw gives.) Why should it be any different for the children?

Classic situation at Circuit Assembly Day
by freddo inso i've just skived off to the car park half way through our assembly day - what a classic morning.. i'm sat right behind an early-teen kid with some sort of special needs (autistic?
) who's sat with what looks like his late-30's harassed single parent mother.
(or married to an unbelieving mate?

Gotta love the pure honesty of some special needs kids! Pure unfiltered honesty.

This week's "Give Us Your Money" meeting item.
by freddo inif you went to it, (or go later this week) how was it handled?
just the video or some commentary too?.
i have heard of a few negative comments from some that attended - one jw even openly said to me "not very encouraging, all they go on about is money lately" and another (a serving elder, no less) said "someone's got to pay for all those lawsuits".

Haven't they historically begged for money in late Oct- November? maybe more subtle, but I do remember Nov. seemed to be the time they would have articles about giving blah, blah, blah.... Why do I remember that? because I was always thinking that my jw better remember Christmas is right around the corner! ah, the joys of living in a divided house. Not that we discussed it but it hung around in the air, one of many unspoken topics.

They are at it again! From the Smithsonian-
".....Mazes have an ancient history spanning thousands of years—though the first mazes weren't mazes at all, but labyrinths, with a single winding path not meant to confuse or puzzle the way we think of traditional mazes. Labyrinths were first designed as spiritual journeys to guide the visitor along a single path, twisting yet serene. The first recorded labyrinth comes from Egypt in the 5th century B.C.; the Greek historian, Herodotus......"https://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/winding-history-maze-180951998/

"... turns up to the convention in a white suit, sunglasses and white shoes."- Wouldn't a jw get in trouble for that? standing out too much? or were you joking?

Nice winged symbol! a quick Google search -
"Going back even further, it seems likely the winged skull symbol was an evolution of winged disk and winged figure symbols. Found in many ancient cultures around the world, the winged disk almost always represents solar energy. The Assyrian winged disk represents the sun God Shamash; the Egyptian figure, the sun God Re. Some believe the figure is based on the appearance of the sun's corona during a solar eclipse. This ancient symbol has several embodiments of the alchemical “union of opposites”, an ancient doctrine which accepts a syncretism of conflicting views, a harmony as opposed to a never-ending conflict between Good and Evil."
With all the superstitions jw's have and how things in the past were use for xyz (name your evil thing) how can they not look on the entire wt org with it's winged symbols (not to mention the wt symbol itself) and not get the willies?
Can't have a birthday because once someone got their head lopped off at a birthday party (forget one guy got to live) but it is ok to use symbols of questionable beginnings (in their minds) because they no longer have any 'meaning'? how do current jw's reconcile this in their minds? put it on the back burner and hope it goes away?
