What exactly do the Governing body(TM) do?
by punkofnice ina genuine question really.. do they actually make desicions or are they simple sock puppets for the lawyers?.
are they just a front (like the queen is in the uk), with little or no desicion making input?.
do they just give talks and make appearances?.

Street Work is hard! Take a look.
by Wasanelder Once inremember how we were told to engage people on the street, that standing and holding the magazines was not countable time?
those days are gone.
they have been reduced to the status of those guys on the street who hold huge "little ceaser" pizza signs and "homes for sale".

Is there a list of JW contradictions / double standards anywhere?
by BenRichards inas i mentioned in a recent thread, i've relatively new here.
have been lurking for a few weeks and just started posting.. one of the things i'm finding interesting about this site is how often someone posts a set of jw published material that contradicts each other.
for example the other day someone posted about lecithin.

News Leaks bring discredit to Jesus!
by CaptainSchmideo inhttp://blog.seattlepi.com/seattlepolitics/2014/08/29/mars-hill-elders-news-leaks-to-non-christian-world-discredit-jesus/.
mars hill elders: news leaks to non-christian world discredit jesus a newly formed board of elders at mars hill church, in a letter friday, condemned news leaks, sought to reassure the flock and warned that public airing of internal allegations and concerns would be used by enemies of the faith.. mark driscoll: senior pastor at mars hill church has taken an extended focus break but controversy swirls within the mega-church.
(photo: crossway books/ap).. the letter seemed to carry a triple message: keep the faith, keep quiet and we will take care of it.. pray that the watching non-christian world would not be given the opportunity to discredit not only our church but the very gospel of jesus: pray that jesus will be glorified through all of this, said the letter, sent five days after senior pastor mark driscoll announced he was taking an extended focus break.. the letter follows thursdays leak of a critical letter signed by nine pastors at the seattle-based mega-church.. the nine excoriated the church for lack of transparency, and the transition of a high volume of people off staff.

Stephen Lett (Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses) Publicly Counsels Politicians During Convention Keynote Address In Africa
by jwleaks inzambia: fulfill promises ... jehovah's witnesses counsel politicianstimes of zambia.
august 23, 2014. by chatula kampo.
a top jehovah's witnesses' world leader has bemoaned politicians' failure to fulfill campaign promises.. stephen lett, who gave a keynote speech at the on-going convention held at levy mwanawasa stadium in ndola, said politicians needed to meet the aspirations of people who vote them into public offices.. meanwhile, conversion overseer john mashilipa has urged fellow witnesses to respect the government of the day, obedient and continue remaining non-partisan.. in the keynote address streamed live from solwezi district in the north-western province, mr lett, one of the seven members of the world governing body said electorates expected much from the people they vote for.. "there is need for politicians to fulfill their promises to their voters once they assumed power," he said.. he observed that most politicians failed to fulfill promises to their voters who had high expectations.. "politicians usually promise a moon and not deliver to their promises, this is disappointing to the voters who have high expectations," he said.. mr mashilipa said believers needed to seek god's kingdom which he said never fails, unlike human governance.. this year's conversion attracted a historic attendance of more than 40,000 people from across the five districts in the province namely; ndola, kitwe, luanshya, mufulira, kalushi and chambishi.. gathered under the theme 'keep seeking first god's kingdom', witnesses filled the stadium and those who could not find seats monitored proceedings from outside.
