  No paradise Earth?

  i was on the beth sarim jw reform site today and read some interesting threads from all sorts of folks, including some bible students (you know, of the ones that started off the watchtower but refused to follow the apostate rutherford when he succeeded in his legal coup for control when russell died).

  i never could understand the doctrine of the paradise earth hope, which the jws seem to confuse with the millennial kingdom.

  anyway, i stole a bit of someones post which i found interesting:there is not one scripture that relegates the hope for those who follow jesus in the narrow way to anything but heaven?

  There is not one scripture that relegates the hope for those who follow Jesus in the narrow way to anything but heaven?

  Can you show me one scripture where the New Testament Christians desired to live on a paradise earth? Can you show me one scripture where the apostles even preached a paradise earth for the Church? Just one scripture?

  Can you show me a scripture that states that paradise earth is any sort of prize for the Christian Church?

  I have never understood why despite the warnings in the New Testament about sticking to what Jesus described as this good news of the kingdom which will be preached to the whole world, the JWs preach a very different twentieth century version, about dates and a paradise earth. The Bible talks of an everlasting good news which is the basis for the faith that was once and for all time delivered to the holy ones.

  2 John verse 9: If anyone does not remain in the teaching of Christ, but goes beyond it he does not have God with him....verse 10: if anyone comes to you bringing a different doctrine.....

  I am astonished that you are so promptly turning away from the one who called you in the grace of Christ and are going over to a different gospel - not that there is another gospel....but even if we ourselves or even an angel from heaven preaches to you a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let Gods curse be on him. I repeat again wha we declared before; anyone who preaches to you a gospel other than the one you were first given is to be under Gods curse. ( Galatians 1:6-9 New Jerusalem Bible)

  i am very nervous about being in here.

  i just got df'd last week and am unsure of how i feel about it.

  i feel guilty but at the same time not.

  Firstly - A Warm Welcome,

  I am so sorry you are going through a difficult time. Those people really have no right whatsoever to ask you personal questions. There is certainly no scriptural basis for a Judicial Commitee. They will be judged.

  It may be hard for you to see it yet, but they have done you a huge favour. I would advise against making any rash decisions. But I strongly recommend you do some reading. If you are still interested in the Bible, then the New Testament without watchtower blinkers is almost the opposite to what you have been taught. Others here can recommend reading (the books by Ray Franz?).

  Or even just read some prvious threads on this board. Please take care, dont let this get you down

  i disassociated myself just over 2 years ago.

  i grew up in the truth so now i feel a bit lonely and out on a limb with no friends.... feels so strange cos i had so many mates in the truth.

  i still believe what jws believe and im not seeking an alternative religion or anything like that.

  my question is, what is the big deal about going to high school prom?

  other than the usual bad associations spoil useful habits, can anybody thing of other specific reasons why jdubs are so anti-prom.

  Why do they walk so slowly?

  i have only to turn into any road or street and if there are any jws operating within my area of vision i can pick them out.. it may only be something that occurs in uk but they actually walk at half speed.

  yet if i see any local jw in the town shopping they fly along, except the very old ones.

  we are in the end of the end time.

  the thought enters my mind ever day to actually stop in just before the meeting started.

  I visited a Kingdom Hall once - in March 2005 for the memorial service. The family I accompanied thought I would be impressed with the warmth and friendliness. It was a strange experence for someone brought up a catholic then adventist.

  Lots of tactile false affection. A room full of uniform people with uniform conversation. I had the same conversation with three different people. I looked up the subject they hard selling in their chat in my Bible that night. They wanted it to be true so much I was very suspicious. I found that the point they were trying to make had no Scriptural support, but was crucial for their FDS doctrine.

  The worst thing for me was that on the day we should have remembered Jesus and his ransom sacrifice, they just hero-worshiped the faithful and discreet slave, although Jesus got a mention too. Even the text of the day was about the leadership/FDS, not about Jesus. Having been brought up on the Bible, it didn't take me long to recognise that although I dont believe the anti christ was in the room, I was listening to nice folks unwittingly looking up to a false Messiah - I thought of Luke 21:8 when Jesus warned : Take care not to be deceived, because many will come using my name and saying I am the one and THE TIME IS NEAR AT HAND. Refuse to join them!

  I never cease to be amazed at how many different interpretations of chronology these people come up with through their furtile imaginations.

  If it is information from God, why does the Watchtower have a zero success rate for all predictions they have ever made in their 125 year history. Except of course for the invisible and unprovable ones.

  Spiritualism

  i have a friend who has just started seeing a boyfriend who is also a spiritualist; they have talked about his beliefs as such but she seems quite interested in it all.. i dont know enough to dismiss it or otherwise but has anyone else on the board had any experiences of the spiritualist church.. what are they about, what do they believe and how are they organised.. hope you can help.. db74

  I have avoided such things in the past for religious reasons, but now I dont believe in demons or evil spirits.

  However my sister was into spiritualism very heavily for a few years. She had some very disturbing experiences which eventually concerned her to such an extent that she has avoided spiritualism ever since. She still believes in all sorts of new age type stuff, is totally fearless of most things, but insists to me that it is evil disguised as good.

  just heard that kylie has breast cancer in its early stage.. kylie minogue diagnosed with breast cancer: australian promoter.

  "frontier touring company ... confirmed that kylie's tour has been postponed due to health reasons," the company said in a statement.. "whilst at home in melbourne with her family this week ... kylie was diagnosed with early (stage) breast cancer," the statement said..   I am sorry to hear of another person getting this terrible disease.

  My wife has been fighting cancer for a year now, our lives have been turned upside down. On the positive side we are hoping and praying for no more surgery, and she has just finished six months of chemo-therapy. She has been off work for a year but hopes to return in a couple of months.

  Our kids (15 and 11) dont know about it, and neither do her parents, nor mine. Not even her twin sister knows. We have good reasons for keeping it hidden although there are also disadvantages. At this moment it helps me to tell my friends on here, although I never intended to. Sometimes it is hard to keep things inside. I have never known such fear and worry.
