  Why don't Lurkers Post?

  when i came to the realisation that my whole religious upbringing was in question and i was led to this site, i immediately wanted to get involved - i could see that there was a lot of caring, spiritual people here that had created an amazing community and i wanted to be a part of that community (to release some pent up feelings and to maybe help others in some way) but having read that many of you guys lurked for months and in some cases years before you finally posted - i'm intrigued as to why?????

  was it selfishness - couldn't bring yourself to commit and be a part of the community, you were just content to observe?

  was it laziness?

  I lurk more than I post. There are a couple reasons why-

  1. I feel like my opinion has already been expressed by someone else, hence, I have nothing to add to a thread.

  2. Limited time- I have a family, work two jobs and lot's of other responsibilities... I don't even have time to read all the threads, much less post.

  3. I've never felt compelled to. I've always felt that this was a place to "come as you are". There are a lot of different personalities, experiences, styles etc here. No one should ever feel forced to do something they aren't comfortable with for whatever reason. It would make me sad to think that anyone who doesn't post but reads every day (like myself) feels that they are less than anyone else because they don't put their 2 cents in.

  Funny Things Kids Say to Brighten Your Day......

  art linkletter used to do program in which he highlighted the funny things that kids say.

  later bill cosby did the same sort of show.

  locally, there is a lady who does a newspaper column in which funny things are recounted.. this forum represents hundreds and even thousands of people - many of whom have childen, or at least are around children.

  These stories are a hoot! I love it!

  A couple small stories from the top of my brain-

  Recently my three year old decided to take a pair of scissors and sheer off her beautiful brown curly hair. When asked why she did it? "I wan look like Daddy!" Daddy's a soldier, and she wanted to be just like him. How can you be mad at that?

  And from this morning actually. After only getting five hours of sleep, my middle girl (7 years old) comes tromping into my husbands and my bedroom, carrying her version of breakfast in bed for us. One apple cut up and slightly brown... , three hard biscuits from last nights dinner, red kool-aid and toast with all the butter in a lump on one side of the bread. All setup beautifully on a cookie sheet that she carried down two flights of stairs ..... It was the most delicious breakfast I had ever tasted!

  I live in a super small community. We're having a community bbq and picnic down at the local park. But before that... I'm the Community Librarian, so I've been asked to coordinate a "bike parade" for all the kids. We're going to have them all decorate their bikes and we're going to have the fire trucks come down and lead a parade down to the picnic site. Doesn't get any better than that!!!

  Um, yeah.... pretty much all of the above for me too. We were suppose to be the "People of the Living and True God" and yet everyone was so scared of EVERYTHING. Makes no sense!

  The two biggies for me were-

  1. Dying at Armaggedon. I knew my heart was bad (even though I put on a good act) so I knew I was bird food once Armaggedon came. I always thought there was something seriously wrong with me, why I couldn't love meetings and going out in service. I can remember when I was in elementary through junior high especially, when we would have loud thunder storms or even sonic booms, my insides would turn with that thought that the "Day" was here and I was dead.

  2. Fear of Demons- Oh my gosh, can't tell you how many nights I couldn't go to sleep because I was petrified demons would attack me in my sleep. This goes along with the fact I thought I was a bad person... I really believed it was just a matter of time before they possessed me, scratched on my window or pinned me down in my bed while I slept. This actually led to panick attacks where I thought I was having an "experience".

  So sad for children to grow up with these kinds of obsessions.....

  Another Elder Suicide?

  well it looks like a southern ontario elder just took his own life.

  i cant go into details as we live in a very small world in "the truth" and even the smallest amount of detail on this one could quickly connect this to me, so for now its on the d-low.. it is a relative of a very close friend and he is godsmacked by it.

  he said to me, " we sure seem to be seeing more of this lately arent we?

  So sad... I can't imagine the dark cloud individuals like this must live in to get to the point of taking their own life... especially among "God's Happy People".

  12-15 years ago, I would have never imagined suicides within the Organization... now... it's almost common.
