a few ?'s
by carla inmay i ask a few questions?
i'm sure some have already been asked, and some are not meant to be hurtful, i just don't understand.
backround- i am not jw, in fact quite anti jw, husband has been studying for about two years, not baptized, not field service, i know doctine quite well, flipflops, un, new 1914, etc......... do any of you feel 'guilty' for getting someone 'in'?

Why did you "choose" to become a Witness?
by JH in.
this question is for those who weren't born in the org, or whose parents didn't drag them into the org.
why did you chose to become a jw?

Ingrained Belief Systems.
by Blueblades inwe all know how hard it is to transcend an ingrained belief system.
that is something that many people are not willing or able to do.
at least not quickly or easily, if not at all.

JW Control over Our Personal Conscience
by paws inhere in england we are currently celebrating v. e. day which reminds us overwhelmingly of the individual sacrifices too numerous to imagine that prevented our country being taken over by the nazi regime.
as a jw i was told that if i supported any charities such as the poppy day for the veterans and their families, i was actually supporting the whole idea of the war and would therefore be opposing the kingdom.
foolishly, i felt i had no choice but to 'ignore my heart' and its desire to indicate my appreciation to those who sacrificed the ultimate on my behalf.

birthdays
by paws inhi everyone and warmest wishes.....please can anyone help me with this....i'm a very, very ex witness single mum but my teenaged son's dad remains enslaved.
my son has reached his own conclusions about jw beliefs and has now had the courage to voice his dissapointment to his dad about not recieving even a birthday card from him and of course i have supported him.
i would like to be able to use some effective arguments with my ex about the jw stance on birthdays.

They told us to turn our backs on loved ones!
by paws ini would like to raise a subject that i bet all you long-time posties have already discussed:
when a person enters the org having already had a life outside it, he/she is told that family and friends must take a back seat.
further to that, some individuals will even 'council' you that total departure from those you love would be wise and indeed expected!

Grief from those you helped
by greendawn inwhen you were jws did you bring people into the org (relatives or not)that later on became for you a source of grief eg stole your spouse, shunned you, slandered you, persecuted you after becoming elders etc etc

Damage To The Human Spirit
by paws inhia everyone...i have only posted in response to other topics so far and thought i'd take the plunge and start my own.. over the weeks i've read so many of your heart wrenching experiences within the org which spans almost every variation of initial contact with the jw's possible imaginable and often times i have read with tears in my eyes.
i am always sending my love and respect to everyone:.
.... to those having successfully freed themselves....your example is a beacon of hope.
