Thanks for sharing. That was a very interesting story. I always enjoy hearing what drove others out. I'm happy for you that were able to escape.

this is the story of my last bout as a witness.
nothing extraordinary.
probably not interesting to most, but it amounts to the biggest change to my life i've ever made.

growing up in the jw religion and having a dad who was an elder, i remember how controlling they were.
i find it amazing now just how much of my childhood i missed out on.
i couldn't watch alot of t.v.
Growing up in the JW religion and having a dad who was an elder, I remember how controlling they were. I find it amazing now just how much of my childhood I missed out on. I couldn't watch alot of T.V. programs that were actually pretty tame (smurfs, X-men, Miami Vice, Scooby Doo, ect.....). I never developed any close bonds with kids, other than the ones I was allowed to associate with, which never usually worked out. You know bad association spoils useful habits. No sports, no college(until now),no girlfriends, were ever allowed. For those of you that gre up in a witness household, and actually obeyed the rules I ask you. Doesn't it piss you off? I'm glad they cared, but I would never do that to my kids if I had them. I sometimes think about the kids who are growing up in that religion now, and I just feel sorry for them.

so much talk of destruction, adverse judgement and the biga etc.... .
but the bible clearly talks of destruction of "god's" enemies right?
it can't be that many.
I think God is his own worst enemy. If he's so all powerful and everything, why doesn't he fix all the shit that's going on in the world? If God does exist, then he deserves every enemy he's made. Now I agree as insignificant humans there's not much we can do. But God is no friend of mine. I certainly don't feel any sense of awe or dread for him. The only thing I feel is disgust at how pathetic he is. And as far as his little organization, the JW's I hope they are crushed by the governments of this earth.
Wow, don't mind me. Sometimes when I start thinking about it I go off on my little angry at God tangents. So no offense to anyone out there, that's just how I feel today.

how many, due to watchtower restrictions on education, are or were janitors, bus drivers, waitresses, ect.
this is not to disparrage any of these honorable jobs - just wondering how widespread this was.
i never attended a congregation where there were not several janitors.
The only time I was a janitor, was at the circut assemblies. I always got stuck cleaning the toilets. I hated that job. I had to take their shit and clean it too.

when most people use that expression: "what goes around, comes around", it seems to be used more in a negative way.
for example, you find out bob just ripped off something small from work.
you and your co-worker don't necessarily want to rat on him so you use the famous "what goes around comes around" phrase.. but how often do we say it the other way around?
I wish that was the case. It seems like people who bully others are usually the ones that reap the benefits, at least in the corporate world. Maybe those who do good deeds are rewarded in the end though. Guess I won't know until the afterlife.

i saw an episode of a day talk show the other day in which they interviewed these two women that were part of a polygamous cult in utah.
the cult was referred to as 'the order'.. men married many young wives, and these were expected/forced to breed in large numbers.
these women worked for the cult.
And those are all good reasons never to join a religion again.

i hate how the wt makes a member's family seem less important than their jw "family" by conditioning them to add the "fleshly" qualifier to "sister" or "brother" when talking about their siblings.
it just always made me shudder.
did this really bother anyone else?
Kaykay you kill me with your stories. They are absolutely awesome.

It's just another one of those really weird things that make you scratch your head. I always hated that too. I actualy hated the term brother and sister for other members at the hall. I'll tell you what, alot of those pricks were no brother or sister of mine. I always thought family should take priority over church anyway.

i lived thru the 1975 fiasco.
many here did too.. on another board there was discussion about the way the congregations were before 1975. some thought that they were like small country churches in some ways.
we did our own work on repairs at the kingdom hall, like a family.
I'm glad the end didn't come, or I wouldn't be here.

don't really know how i feel about that one.
my brother is in the truth because of what i "taught" him as well as my "example" according to others and him (he doesn't know my official stand yet).
an earlier post opened my eyes a little...i know now i didn't do it alone, and that i was trained to bring in others (one thing that i must say the training really helped me in my career as a sales director, ironically enough).. i was just wondering how other people view this.
The only person I ever brought in was my wife. Thankfully she quit when I did. None of my studies ever made it all the way to baptism. So I don't feel guilty for that.
