Book - Parenting Beyond Belief: On raising caring ethical children without
by kwintestal inbook - parenting beyond belief: on raising caring ethical children without religion.. i just wanted to point out this book to other jwdr's.
i just finished reading it last week and i thought it would be good to post on here, not only for atheist or secular parents, but also those in "religious limbo" for example those who have just left a religion and don't want to join another and don't necessarily know what or how to explain things to their kids.. it is comprised of a series of essays by various intellectuals and covers various subjects such as religious tolerance and education, encouraging your children to think and explore their thoughts, holidays and how to handle them, how to explain the "big questions" and ways to seek community.. personally, i think that the book kind of pushes universal unitarianism in several points throughout.
it's subtle pushing but it's there none-the-less, but other then that it's actually put together very well.

JW's negative outlook on humanity
by kwintestal inalways thinking that the world around you, the people you see and deal with day-to-day, and the forces controling everything are wicked and evil in the most horrible ways is pretty much standard thinking for most active jw's.
none would think more so then those who have had this indoctrinated into them from infancy.
how do you think this effects people trying to leave?

El vs. YHWH or El into YHWH. for those who've read "The Bible Unearthed"
by kwintestal ini've been thinking about this for quite a while and i'm not exactly sure how the best way of putting it out there, so if it seems like i'm blabbering at points, i more then likely am and i'm sorry.
i'm kind of merging two different thoughts together, historical info i got from the book, "the bible unearthed" and personal research and discussions with others regarding "el".. el obviously played an important part in early hebrew language as it was their word for "god".
but, el was a caananite god, and to them the god of all gods, supreme god father of all things and humankind.

JW calling on me left a card for me after my cutting up Bible Teach brochur
by kwintestal inso i've been having an elderly jw call on my for the last few months, but i haven't seen her for most of the summer because i've been quite busy doing other things.
anyway, the last time she called she left the brochure "what does the bible really teach?
" and asked for me to read it and give my opinion.

My JW visitors returned again. I'm officially an RV.
by kwintestal inthey've actually been back a couple times but i haven't been home.. the first time the came back was the day of the memorial, they dropped off a second invitation, just in case i misplaced the first one, i guess.
my wife was home and talked to them for a couple seconds but they weren't too interested in talking to her.. it had been a little while since the first time i talked to them as i've been busy on saturdays, so this time they came on a thursday afternoon around 3pm and i just happened to be home.
the lady started out by saying how last time she visited we talked about world conditions, which we didn't as you can read in my previous post on the matter, and then went on, reading a scripture, the one that talked of the last days where all these horrible things will happen, like greed and drunkeness, children won't listen to parents and people won't love god.
