people who have never been jws seem to think we can simply walk away from it "get a life" and move on (as if we dont have a life or something).
i was wondering what consequences you peronally suffer for having been a jw?
depersonalisation, depression, keeping people at a distance, none...etc?.
Hi Brummie
lots of things here I would agree with. Having given up our way of life in our early 20's to become dubs, we now find ourselves 20 years later in that same situation again.
The friends we thought we had are are gone. The ones we were persuaded to drop so as to be good dubs have moved on and we have nothing in common. Yes it is hard to trust people again. We are very wary of getting involved in anything that might need commitment and/or lots of time, because we have already had too much time taken away. Fortunately our children who were brought up in the org are getting over it and building their lives on their terms, and we dont have any other relatives in.
But we will survive. I left a way of life behind once and I can do it again. The first time I thought I had jhvh's help in doing it and that is why I suceeded, but now I know I did it all on my own. The help was in my mind and they havent taken that from me.
We have been out for about 2 years having faded for about 3. We have moved on. We dont care about meeting any dubs now, even though I used to try and avoid them to start with as I could cope with all the explanations.
You do move on although it can take time.
We even had xmas decks in the front garden this year, and we are still not DA or DF.
An elders wife called when we had my sons birthday cards and a banner up and didnt make any comment!!
It does take time to loose the guilty feeling about xmas, birthdays, not going to the memorial etc but that sppeds up once you have proven to yuorself that the 'troof' is a LIE.

okay, my comedy instructor says i can not use satan in my comedy routine...it's a shame, it really fit when i describe being a witness.
the bit about being df b/c i wasn't annoying enough at the doors was very well rec'd by my classmates, but i am leading in by saying how strict the religion is.
to what may i compare being a jw?
To what may I compare being a JW? HELP! In the sense that JWs are not allowed to do anything but preach.
Also, when I mention how it feels to be thrown out of the world's least popular religion, someone suggestion I liken it to being thrown out of some organization to which anyone can belong . Can't think of what that would be.
Like being in Amway but knowing that Walmarts stuff is cheaper, better and you dont need prozac to use it.
Your englishman left behind !! sorry thinking about that one.

how many times have we heard from the platform about jehovah and looking after pioneers etc especially if they were short of money or something material.. in our cong it wasnt jehovah it was other brothers and sisters doing the providing.
usually those who were actually in a full time secular job.
the ones who took all the stick about not putting kingdom interests first but instead tried to pay their own way in the world without deliberately working short hours and claiming benefits.. this sort of thing really used to make me sick.. we even had one pio sister that used to make her bible studides fell sorry for her.
Hallo Dannyboy
By 'privileges' I assume you mean the glory of handling the microphones or even the reflected glory of handing out the mags for the lit' servant? lol

on my wife's job, she is one of about 10 jw's employed there.
recently one of them found out the assistant manager (who never told anyone she was ever a jw) was raised a jw and has been disfellowshipped for the last 10 years.
needless to say this news spread quickly amongst the jw's there, and of course they all started shunning this person.
Hi WTlies
a similar thing happened recently where my daughter works.
A jw sister tried to shun one of the managers where my daughter works. Not because she is an xjw but because she stood up for my daughter against the dubs (not this sister personally) whilst this sister was temping in the office a few months ago.
The manager wouldnt let her go past without speaking but went out of her to make this woman respond to her greeting and then told my daughter about the attempted shunning.
The more people that know how they operate the better.

i fail to understand why some people choose to make such dramatic exits?
are they trying to get attention?
are they trying to shame others with their holier-than-thou attitude?
Dub training and conditioning comes into play here.
IMHO it comes from the time in Jdub land when we always had to have a good reason and/or justify everything we did. Either to ourselves(conscience) or to the local gestapo(elders). This takes a lot of getting over and I think many here find they still need to tell everyone what they are doing and why.

i read this post by libby on channel c and thought it was very insightful and thought-provoking for both non-jws and jws.. posted by libby on wed - apr 2 - 11:32am: .
greetings fellow posters, .
deceptions 1 & 2: in paragraph #1 the reader is told that the bible is like a letter from a loving father to his children.
Thankyou for posting this Blondie.
I am surprised there are only 4, but then that is only page 1 so far!!!

Sorry to hear things are not too good at home for you. Could he be "won without a word" work in this situation do you think. Especially if it would ease the tension between you. Please ignore me if this is out of turn and I am totally wrong.

Welcome aboard Deborah.
I am sure you will find posting on here helps.
There are also some who post here who have never been dubs and they might be able to give your husband some info from that perspective.
Looking forward to hearing more from you.

Lots of interesting replies on this.
BerylblueThat was an awful thing to happen. I felt really angry reading your post. I hope you find the inner strength to get over it.
ShakitaYes the givers are generous ones in the cong.
AlanFHow many dedications have we sat through listening to all the spiel about jhvh giving this KH/AH when all the hard work and monies have come from us.
MattyWe had an elder who commented on jhvs blessing on the weather for the Brighton Convention. ie we could sit on the beach in the sun during the lunch break. The idiot totally over looked the fact that 100's of holiday makers where doing the same without having to sit through hours of boring talks to justify it. (We reminded him)
BallisticOne day something good will happen for you. Keep looking.

as a faithful and zealous witness, nothing can question your faith.
but one day, something does!
you begin to have doubts.
No final straw, just an accumulation of bales.
The double standards for those of the 'in crowd'.
The unkindness of most elders.
The unhappiness of most r&f brothers and sisters.
Weariness of trying to make it work. Other half was an elder trying to go against the WTBTS tide. He wasnt a society man, we can see that now with hindsight, but at the time we thought the problems were just local ones with busy body elders.
The generation change had a big impact on how we then viewed all the societies literature. We came to see how often you could have 2 diametrically opposed items even on one service meeting. We would sit and pull them to bits at the hall during the talks to each other. We also started to show our children.
I dont know how we lasted so long after that.
