I try not to read these posts cause I dont want it spoilt but I must of missed the title of this one! Intereesting read. I wonder how long it will take scientists to discover where all the missing socks go?? I have my own theory something to do with a blackhole that is mysteriously linked to each washing machine but that doesnt explain where the ones go that you leave lying around the floor disappear to. I guess that's another thread though!

Are Jehovah's Witnesses becoming a brand name?
by truthseeker inever since the society split into 3 corporations back in october 2000, it seems to me that the phrase "published by jehovah's witnesses" is appearing on almost every publication they produce, as opposed to the old "watchtower bible & tract society of pennsylvania".
last week, i was looking on the back of the new "learn from the great teacher" cd folder.
it suddenly occured to me, that this religion really is a business.

Its the middle of summer here in adelaide. We had a top of around 110 I think and expecting hotter over the weekend. ITs funny to think that its snowing in your half of the world and dry and hot in my part of the world.

Will there be winter in the new system?
by Atilla inso much snow this winter, but it reminds me of the silly conversations we would have out in service about conditions in the new system.
this one guy, who thought he knew everything because he had been to bethel and had been pioneering since the 9th grade, was positive that there would be no winter in the new system.
his reasoning was that since the whole earth would be made into a paradise with perfect conditions, there would be no real cold places like russia or even central pennsylvania.

SOME PEOPLE CONSIDER JWS A NUISANCE

i understand from 1 of mum's friends that in a certain road near the kh that people have put notices saying they don't want jws knocking on their door etc.. also 1 persons has put on (their door?
) asking them`y r u persecuting me by knocking on my door' sort of things etc with newspaper cuttings on her door.. did something similiar happen in your area?

No do tell! What someone not wanting a self righteous, bible thumping, clean living hounding them on their doors?? Never heard of it. Preposterous (sp?) even!
I used to have a sign on my x front door about not preaching the good word at the door cause I was not interested. You would of thought the elders would of picked up on that really quickly. I suppose they would have had to notice that I wasnt there and then cared! Yeah like that would ever happen!

Yep I was shunned big time during my time and it was part of the reason I left. I was too independent and a lot of the sisters were jealous of the freedom I had and the fact that I had a life that they didnt! Now I look back on it I am glad I was shunned becasue it probably led me out of the troof a lot sooner than it normally would of.

Holidays have no meaning whatsoever - Perhaps because of JW upbringing?!
by Doubtfully Yours ini find myself going through the motions whenever holiday time rolls around, you know, just going with the crowd, etc., but in my heart of hearts holidays mean nothing to me; so i don't ever feel like decorating or doing anything personally that is holiday-related.
am i the only one who feels this way?
could it be a result of my jw upbringing?

No silly. What you may not have realised is that the holidays, special events etc only have whatever meaning you give to it. For example, Christmas has only been a ritual type thing that one went through as a matter of routein and it was expected etc etc. However last christmas I was determined to be special and wonderful as it was the first christmas I could ever hold for my family and I was determined it was going to be one of the best ever and it was.
Its like life, you only get out of it what you put into it. Sit back and expect everything to come to you and put no effort in it then nothing great will happen. Put lots of effort and fill it with love and laughter then life will be great. Put your own meaning into holidays. Like I believe Americans celebrate thanksgiving with turkeys and such before christmas. So put meaning into giving thanks. What are you thankful for>> what are you glad you got rid of and so on and celebrate that. Be an active participant in your own life, not a spectator. Dont sit back and expect things to happen, make things happen, put the meaning you want into them and stuff like that. What have you got to lose?

Tattoos.....
by Agent Smith inmore bs from the org..... its ok for women to tattoo lipstick and other make-up crap on their face, but its not ok for anyone else to get a tattoo anywhere else on their body?
there was a sister at our cong that got her lips and her eyebrows tattood.
she announced it to eveyone in the cong, so it was no big secret.

Yet one more example of double standards and "it suits us" standards. No matter how you look at it the sister got tatooed. I recently got one of a godess on my ankle. The process and the methodology is axactly the same. THe same machines are used, the same techniques although it is not permanent as a tatoo. It lasts months to years depending on the dye's used. Don't ya just love the Borg and its double standards. Was she an elders wife perhaps?
