Rub, don't forget that they have two websites, one at www.jw-media.org and www.watchtower.org. You won't find it at watchtower.org which is their main site for internet traffic.

Society's Website re: Shunning
by RubaDub ini have seen several times here that people have said that the official borg website mentions that people are free to leave the organization without being shunned.
can anyone tell me specifically where on the website it mentions that?.

Do You Tend To Give People The Benefit of the Doubt Or Do You Mostly Judge?
by minimus inby nature, are you a person that typically makes a judgment on your gut feeling or do you feel that you don't have all the facts to judge against someone?
-
amac
One thing I learned from realizing the truth about being a JW is that nothing is as it seems (to me at least.) So I tend to judge people, but then usually remind myself that I very well may be wrong and try to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Todays View on Df'ing/Shunning
by Mystery ingrowing up i remember very restricted views on df'ed members.
then the org was a little more lenient regarding shunning family members etc... .
does anyone know what the view are today?

They have had some recent articles on DFing and how we should be very strict on it. But they have also had some articles on reaching out to inactive ones, so maybe they are confused about how to treat you. I'd just ask them, and no matter what their reply (unless its a good one of course) ask them what they think Jesus would do in their shoes. That always gets them.

Show me the money (WT as Fannie Mae?)
by gcc2k ini posted this on the "remodeling the kh" thread and did not get the desired feedback.. when everyone is done picking on me over in the cbs/silentlambs thread, maybe you can turn your attention to the following questions.. .
1) if the society still charges interest on the loans to the congregations, how does the society justify this, since it is clearly unscriptural?
surely there has been a "questions from our readers" about this?
-
amac
I'm not too knowledgable about any of this...but here is what I know.
The society does charge interest, but I understand it to be a small amount to cover the cost of inflation so that the WT does not LOSE money by loaning it out (as Maverick pointed out.)
The hall is then built by volunteers in and around the congregation. Once the hall is built, the building is actually donated back to the WT (that's part of the whole dedication ceremony.) So the WT does own the building in the end. Not a bad racket.

JW email about fornication
by crownboy ini got this email recently from a jw friend:one person's sobering experience (please read).
i've recently had a very thought provoking experience.. i was playing basketball with some guys i used to know from high school.. like all basketball players we were talking trash.. .
i noticed there was a dress suit hanging up on the fence.. so i said to one of the guys (who i knew from high school),.

No, I'm sure there's some truth to it. A brother was probably playing ball with someone who said "Oh yeah, I dated a Jehovah's Witness girl a long time ago, but we broke up when she wanted me to go to meetings."

"Special Meeting" on Sunday 4/27/03. How special?
by robhic ina friend of mine who is a jw told me last night that there is a special meeting today that she wanted to attend.
since her health in the last few months has prevented meeting attendance (other than the memorial) i wonder why she is so determined to make the meeting today, sunday april 27, 2003. could it just be a local thing?
do the jw do that or is every meeting in lock-step with all the meetings in the country if not the world?

Wow, UnDFed! I've never heard statements quite that bold from the platform. He is going to destroy every single person outside of the WT organization? That is strong! How do you remember all these quotes, was this all from memory, notes or a recorder? Just curious how accurate they are (my memory's so bad that I usually assume everyone else's is as well.)

Don't kill the poor dogs! Buy a pellet gun and you can have hours of endless fun! If you are really sly, maybe you can tag one when the owner is nearby and he can see what it is like getting chased by a pitbull (not sure if that will work, but it's worth a try.)

Which religions excommunicate convicted sex offenders?
by proplog2 inbill bowen likes to use the expression "pedophile paradise" because of the two witness requirement.
but, don't jw's disfellowship unrepentant sex offenders?
-
amac
Proplog, I understand your point and I have had discussions on this with many witnesses (well at least 10.) I usually say "yes" JWs do a good job of DFing sex offenders (this is not even worth arguing with most JWs as you would have to start using specific examples and their blinders would come up) however most child molesters are only discovered and prosecuted after a professional investigation, so the problem lies in whether or not JWs report suspected sex offenders. Because of years of training and misconceptions by most JWs, they are not sure if they should report. And the society has yet to put in place a policy to correct and cover this. From there I usually go into what the current policy is, and for most of those people got an agreement that it should be updated. That is the kind of pressure I would like to put on the GB, having JWs talk about it and expect the change. That kind of talk will make it to COs and DOs and so on.
