The Purpose of Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanzaa/Winter Solstice
by cruzanheart inthis is my very first time celebrating christmas, and i am enjoying the season just as much as my children.
what i see is the joy of giving.
i know there are over-crowded malls, harried parents, worried people with not enough money for what they want, or no money at all.

Cruzanheart, you're a peach; your posts are among those I most look forward to
I agree. They are always positive and encouraging.
Re: The Purpose of Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanzaa/Winter Solstice
for me, I am enjoying the decorating and I have always loved to buy presents so I am just plain having a lot of fun. I still know that Jesus wasn't born on Dec 25 and I still know the holiday has "pagan" backgrounds, but plain and simple I am enjoying the feeling that comes with this time of the year. People are usually friendlier and there are parties and extra treats to share... It's just a fun time of the year. -

Secret Santa II......
by Gadget ini've just read in another thread that due to circumstances the secret santa for this year hasn't been able to happen, so i want to try and organise another one!.
according to the lady at the post office, the closing date for international mail to be delivered before xmas is this week, but for post on the same continent we still have a few weeks so i'll try and take that into account so everyone can have their prezzy before christmas day.
if everyone who wants to join in can pm or email me at [email protected] with their details before 12noon sunday 30th november(uk time), i'll try and get the details back to you by sunday night.

Infidelity amongst JWs
by YellowLab indoes there seem to be a higher incidence of infidelity amongst the jws?.
my brother, who is an active jw and ministerial servant, has an elder friend who was recently disfellowshipped for having an affair with another sister in the hall.
it turns out this sister was divorced a few years earlier from a "worldly" man who had an affair on her.

But there are two different (albeit equally as screwed up and artificial) rules for men, and women in dubdom. There is a distinction made between a man and a woman. Men are always right, held in high regard, leaders of the household, etc....
personally I think that being raised a JW put me in a volnerable position. The first relationship I 'fell' into was with a brother and he was into S&M. I think JWs are the perfect background for a woman to be a sub. We were told to obey our husbands, to put them before ourselves. To be 'submissive'. Of course the S&M world is not what they are trying to have, that takes it a step farther but in a way, it is the best training to be one. I was vulnerable and more than willing to please, because after all, isn't that what a good little JW wife will do?

Bethel, slavery, and fishing lures
by seven006 inevery so often i get a phone call from jt and i thoroughly enjoy our conversations.
no only do i learn a little more about the inner workings of bethel, we also end up laughing to the level of blowing snot out of our noses.
one of the topics that we discussed this time was the inability of farmers, short order cooks, and retired janitors disguised as elders that try to use their breakfast cereal box psychology to fix complex marital problems of their flock.

PSS: I don't know if that poor brother got his blow job or not, but I heard he eventually got a divorce.
my guess is he didn't get it.. Besides, don't they have to discourage this course of action?? even though you know when they get home they are wanting some for themselves???
One of the elders down this way said that he and his fellow elders really had nothing "weird" to handle in JC meetings but he said he knew brothers from some other states who dealt with bestiality.....oh we all went YUK........ but then maybe wife swapping is weird and YUK to them.....just the norm out here in Cali.
I think they don't know how to deal with a lot of stuff.. bestiality would be a big one though.. I was a 'bad' girl and was in a threesome that they had to talk to me about..... they were very uncomfortable talking about it.. and then they assumed it was FMF and I had to clearify it for them.. they were all uncomfortable because they kept trying to say how unnatural it was for a like sex to be together and in their eyes it was so much worse if I had been with a woman... I told them it was the other way around.. boy a pin could have dropped in that room... they never expected that...
Then when I kicked my soon to be ex out this past year and they came over I told them (in front of him) how sexually he was unable to perform and that he lied to me before the wedding telling me everything was in working order. They didn't even want to discuss it. I think they were embarrased to talk to him or me about it. They only said that it wasn't grounds for divorce (no kidding.. duh.. I knew that.) and changed the subject....

((((((((((((((((((((Sentinel)))))))))))))))))) My heart goes out to you. There are so many who are in similar circumstances as you and we do understand the emotions that you are going through. The way families are divided has always been my biggest problem with the WTS. Even when I was still in, I didn't like it or agree with it. My mother treats my sister the exact same way. She will allow a health problem (whether hers or my sisters .. or mine now) to be an excuse to justify allowing herself to have contact but when we are all well, then of course no contact. It has been a rollercoaster for my sister too.
I feel so bad for you.. ((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))))

update on my mother
by Mulan ini have gotten many emails and pm's from posters asking about mom, so thought i would update everyone.. she is still in a rehab facility, but because she will need more care than i am qualified to give her now, she is moving on saturday to an assisted-living retirement home.
we have toured it and it is really a nice one.
medicare is picking up the tab, so it won't cost her anything except most of her ss check.

It sounds like (under the circumstances) it will be a good thing for everyone. I think it is great that they have places for those who need assistance but yet still are able to have their own independence too.
I hope this works out to be a very positive place for her. I think it's great she has a piano to enjoy.

i promised i'd start a thread about it and if that person doesn't post the pic they sent me this morning, i will.

I went looking for a pic.. and it is ironic that I found one of me and a Christmas tree. Although we never celebrated Christmas, until age 11, my mother allowed us to go to the Xmas eve event to meet with my dad's family. I think it was confusing for us, because there we were told we couldn't celebrate and yet we were there in the thick of it.. but we could never say Merry Christmas, etc.. all the gifts that were purchased for family members could have only my dad's name on it. Of course some family gave us gifts because we were there even if we didn't celebrate.. I get a kick out of my dress. Here I wasn't supposed to be celebrating, but it looks to me like I had pretty Christmasy colors on....

Is It Possible To Sucessfully SUE The Society Or Elders???
by minimus in.
sometimes we read of how, if a person gets bothered by the elders or organization, they'll sue.
do you think this could ever work??

I think usually contingencies cases are with injury cases, like a car accident or injury in a public place or on the job. I didn't think they did that with this type of case. I do believe it costs you.
Sad that they have so much power to fight the little guy till he is beaten down and broke..
and what I would like to know, is where they get that money??? is that from the contributions of the world wide work?? or what??
I sure never paid money specifically to help them pay for court costs.
