My friend was intrigued by the songbook cover. He wanted to know why the man had his tongue sticking out:
...and why the shadow was left that way on the little girl's dress. "It makes it look like she has a nipple!"

hi everyone, this may be the stupidest post ever.
i am stumped for an answer and would love to hear your opinions, though.
every week or two for the last couple of years, i have a dream--or at least that's what i'm calling it--that consists of me waking up or thinking that i've waked up, and seeing the ceiling of my darkened bedroom filled with algebraic equations.
Do our brains have the ability to imprint things that we've seen but have no understanding of, and involuntarily recall them in this way?
Yes.
I almost hate to re-open this thread because of the upset it seems to cause with some people.
But, I did say I was going to ask a friend what he thought about the apparent subliminal images in the Watchtower publications. He was over for a visit last night and I showed him a couple of the images.
I showed him the image taken from the old Paradise book - the one with Jesus on the stake. This one:
I asked him for a response about the image before explaining anything about it - keep in mind that this fellow is strictly non-religious - and he did not 'get' that it was a picture of 'Jesus'. His first comment was that the guy in the middle looked 'Aryan'. And homosexual.
I then pointed out this guy here:
...and turned him upside down:
..and my friend said "His dick is sticking out!!"
And we had a good laugh. I asked him if he thought, based upon the way the lines had been made, etc., if the artist had done it unintentionally. Emphatically, and chuckling the whole time, he said, "No. That was intentional."
My friend taught Studio Art at the university for many years - he does not buy into "it was an accident".
I then showed him the songbook. Again - good laughs. And again - not accidental.
So, for what it is worth, an 'expert' - an artist himself and a teacher of art making - both sees the images and says that he does not see how another artist could make those images and not know what they were doing.
Now, I realize that most people don't accept that an artist can be an 'expert' of anything other than throwing some paint at a canvas....but....not all of us artists suffer from mental difficulties. Some of us are actually quite intelligent.
;)
morpheus: The floodgates have not opened by any rational measurment or logical standard. There are over a million pubs in the usa. 20 cases is .002 percent of total publishers. I would agree that even one case is too many but its also sensationalized to call 20 a floodgate. if "watchtower" thought there were only 20 potential cases lurking they would laugh themselves to sleep at night.
Maybe the reporters are taking into consideration the statistics that reveal that less than 10 percent of child abuse cases get reported. If you combine that figure with the restrictive policies on reporting that the WTS practices, it is not unreasonable to think that the percentage figure of un-reporting is much lower within the JW community and would result in a lower figure than 10 percent.

Those 20 cases that are mentioned are only the pimple on the top of a huge, pus leaking boil that sits ready to be popped.
Child abuse/rape is systemic within the JW community.
this lawsuit was discussed on jwn five months ago: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/284881/brave-ex-elder-sues-over-defamation-over-fraud-claims?size=20&page=2 .

here is the segment on the conti abuse case in california and jehovah's witness's response as reported on by the abcnews nightline broadcast which was shown early this morning.
it really displays some absolutely shocking behavior from not only her abuser and his (supportive) wife, but also the jw attorneys and elders via video.
i am just blown away by the audacity displayed by these monsters.. we can now understand why governing body member stephen lett slipped in his comments a couple of weeks ago about "untrue reports of child abuse" in one of his talks which can viewed on the cult's website.
Thank you for posting this clip, WingCommander.
Kendrick's wife was something else. Wow. It astounds me when women come down on the side of the criminal. Solidly on the side of the abuser. Damn - it was her 7 year old grandchild that Kendrick abused!
What a grandma she makes! Omg. I felt like throwing up when she was performing. No wonder that poor child was victimized - the grandmother took sides with the man who raped her grandchild.
Her response to that, "He paid for that crime!" Holy crap - how much does a crime like that cost the abuser? What about her very own grandchild having to pay for Kendrick's crime for the rest of her life? How does one jail term balance out that? The child has a life sentence - nothing can wipe that out. Nothing.
Women - mothers and grandmothers - who stand on the side of child abusers and rapists are truly fucked in the head.
reading a report of an elder in a friends cong has been hiding and spying on the pioneers who seem to have a practise of dumping the cart and finding a local coffee shop, i've noticed that they do this in my local high street as well but this week they seemed to be all huddled around the cart, they've clearly been warned, a vast percentage of the time i see they seem to be more interested in fiddling with their mobile phones and gossiping, is just seems these carts are a means for the pioneers to turn in "easy time" i wonder what sort of figures show how much literature is being taken by the public?
i bet its very minimal.
naturally the gb would say they are a phenomenal success , we clearly know they are not.
FayeDunaway: We were all where he is right now at one time.
I wasn't.
I didn't join after having access to this forum. I was a born-in - I didn't make a conscious choice to join. Nobody told me about the shunning, blood sacrifices, etc., before I ended up sitting in the KH.
If he wants to chime in occasionally that's ok with me.
Oh, I agree - I have no problem with him being here - he sounds like he should be used to the heat by now, seeing as he was here even prior to him becoming a JW.
lots of serious stuff being discussed on site .

The doc says, "Ah. I know what your problem is. You're two tents."

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/quebec-rushes-to-vaccinate-against-measles-in-joliette-1.2991904.
a member of the esprit-saint mission told cbc news reporter thomas daigle that vaccinations are against the community's beliefs and that their prophet warns them vaccines result in illness.
the member confirmed the first cases of measles in the region originated with the community.the esprit-saint eugenics group was founded by eugene richer dit lafleche in 1913. the community purports to live by and work toward spreading the message of the third member of the trinity, the holy spirit.a former member of the community said it believes vaccines compromise people's immune systems, and that they feel protected by the spirit of dit la fleche, who died in 1925.public health officials said wednesday they believe the number of infections will continue to climb.. this article sounded interesting - i was reminded of how similar this cult's views on vaccinations are to the jws view, especially back in the 1920s to the 1950s.
crazyguy: What year did the JW's publish that there was no such thing as viruses?
The WTS' stance that germs followed disease instead of the other way around, was expounded on many times in the Golden Age (Consolation) magazine during the 1920s and 30s. The WTS consistently took a stand against the AMA whenever they could.
http://www.freeminds.org/history/quackery.htm
The Golden Age and its successor Consolation contained several articles against the germ theory of disease. They believed the medical profession and scientific communities that held certain germs caused disease were wrong. They believed that the germs associated with certain diseases followed the arrival of the diseases. Instead of germs causing diseases, they believed diseases caused germs. The diseases themselves were actually caused by improper diet and constipation! If one had less than two bowel movements a day, one would get any number of diseases in short order.
Again, long after bacteria and viruses proved to be the cause of some diseases, The Golden Age was saying that not a single disease was caused by germs, that Pasteur was a "fake" and that Hydrophobia or Rabies was simply a "mental hoax". For this reason, The Golden Age and Consolation magazines advised not to drink pasteurized milk, but to drink it raw to get the benefits of nutrients destroyed during pasteurization.
Since they didn’t believe bacteria caused food poisoning, they thought it must be the aluminum food was cooked in. Since viruses and bacteria didn’t cause diseases such as smallpox, having a vaccination was viewed as putting "filthy pus" into ones veins. The real culprit in disease causation was constipation!
