I always understood this to be two separate lineages one being Joseph's (legal) and the other, Mary's (biological). One goes back to Abraham the other all the way back to Adam. Throw in some names being left out, some repeated twice and a brother-in-law marriage or two and the contradictions can be worked out. But now I need to shake the indoctrination and do the research... I hold Carl Sagan in high regard, that should raise a red flag in itself.

Contradictory geneology of Jesus
by rebel8 inso i'm reading another carl sagan book and he seems to invariably find a way to slam j-dubs in each one.
(i can't say i blame him.).
anyway, in this one he discusses the fact that the gospels give contradictory geneologies of jesus--differing lines back to david from joseph, and a different number of generations.

Controversial Opinion: Why the web site campaign is actually brilliant
by Apognophos inthere's a lot of talk right now about how stupid it is to have jws hand out leaflets with urls on them.
"why go to someone's door to tell them they can visit a web site that lets them ask for someone to come to their door?
" well, i'm sorry, but i have to weigh in with a contrary opinion here on how clever the society is.

You gotta admit, no one else is going door-to-door to tell you to visit websites.
This was my thought exactly... from an Internet Marketer's standpoint one can't help be jealous... no worries about keyword research, back links, or paid advertising... just employ your army of slaves to send you the traffic and in turn the search engines will reward you with great page placement since you must seemingly providing valuable content to your readers, why else for all the traffic? Throw enough sh*t on the wall and some will stick.

Just Curious About Something
by EmptyInside insorry, couldn't think of a better title for this post, without it being long.. i was thinking this morning,if ex-jws, who were born into the group less likely to join another religion after leaving.
vs. the witnesses who belonged to a church before joining the religion.. from my own prespective, being raised a witness,i have no intention of joining any religion.
and it seems that born-ins are less likely to join a religion after leaving the cult.. in my own experience,i think it's religious burn-out to tell the truth.

Now I am worn out from being a JW and think I need a rest. Probably won't get one though as I am still in there due to family and other commitments.
The above statement is me to a "T". Might not be able to completely rest from it but I am going to be a very good slacker in all things JW.

Should The Governing Body Take A Good Look At Their Cookies And See Where People Are Going Before They Dine At The Y(JW.Org)?
by frankiespeakin inwhen people visit their site they leave a cookie foot print.
the governing body as dutiful ceos need to examine this bit of information closely so as to see where these visitors have been before comming to their site.
they need to find out what apostate sites they are visiting.

Your biggest risk would be a friend/family member looking over your sholder/checking your browsing history (ctl+h keys) and then gossiping/reporting what you are doing. Clearing browsing history and/or using incognito mode will protect you from most of this threat.

In retrospect, that was one of the first changes to the new JW.org and the killing of the religion as we knew it.

GOVERNING BODY PATTERNS OF DECEPTION

Awesome OP Terry... also your idea of a book with just all contradictory quotes reminds me of that "Quote site" the the WT$ took down and stole the domain through intimidation tactics. My first thoughts of waking up was when I first discovered that site. Even though I was totally indoctrinated at the time I reasoned that the site couldn't be considered "apostate" when only WT$ content was presented.
That sad affair reminded me of the "golden rule" WT$ style... "he who has the gold rules..."

"They said there would be competition and hurt feelings among the brothers and sisters as to "who was best" or "who wasn't good enough to be allowed into the chior or orchestra" (this was a problem back when there used to be an orchestra at the assemblies).
They said a spirit of competition much like is found in Christendoms churches began to enter in among the "friends". Jealousy and resentment crept in..."
Plenty of that to go around over skilless achievments now...

Who Really Profits from the WTBTS?
by Freedom77 inlike they say in the movies, "follow the money.
" the thought occurred to me the other day - the wt scam rakes in billions of dollars, and yeah some of that goes to operations and equipment.
but bethelites at farm and factory get only a bare little dorm room and a monthly pittance.

I have seen both ends of the spectrum at the low levels of the society, from DOs down. DOs and COs take a vow of poverty and a long time back were forced to give up their motor-homes/5th wheels and room in publishers homes. That didn't last long and then apartments were being built in each circuit for them. So pretty much everything the RF struggles for is provided for them.
One DO really impressed me at an elders mtng at our 2day convention. He was one of the best speakers I have ever heard and a real down to earth person. A few of the elders were doting over him with complements each out doing the previous with praise and he said, in so many words, You brothers paid to fly me out here, put me up with great accommodations, feed me well, buy my clothes etc. I had better give good talks. That is All I have to do! I do not have to worry about anything. So knock this stuff off!
The other end of the spectrum was a CO who was serving our congregation and was passing around and offering for "donations" gemstones that he cut himself. The guy was a real pompous arse, and I confronted him about it in front of a group of publishers he was working during lunch.... this guy also tried to get me to make up stuff for an assembly part.
I would imagine at the upper levels we should expect at least some shenanigans and abuse of funds going on by some one or a tight group of individuals. Past that who knows. With the WTS track record as far as doctrine/prophesy, white washing their own history, and dishonest editorial, name calling/demonizing, abuse of the membership when it suites them and lack of transparency it wouldn't surprise me if things were much worse.
