The architects of the "New American Century" who thought in the '90s that such a war was a swell idea might finally be starting to awaken from their collective delusion that the folly would be good for the country...

Local Costs of the Iraq War
    Thursday, 26 May 2005
Find out how much the Iraq War is costing taxpayers in your town, city or county. State and national information is also included.
The following table breaks down the cost of the Iraq War for various towns, cities and counties across the U.S. The breakdown is based on a total cost of $204.6 billion estimated by the National Priorities Project by analyzing the legislation for the four allocations made by Congress. The first appropriated about $54 billion for the Iraq War (passed in April 2003), the second $71 billion (November 2003), the third $21.55 billion (June 2004), and the fourth $58 billion in Iraq War-related spending.

The state-level costs are computed based on how much each state contributes in tax revenues, according to IRS data. The local-level costs are based on the state costs, and on relative population and incomes in each location. These numbers were updated for the latest IRS data in May, 2005.

NPP will calculate the value for your town or county if you send us a request including your name, address, contact information, and any group with which you are affiliated (if any) and how you intend to use the information.

The answer has to be 'No'....the US has enough to do increasing prosperity of its general population as Katrina has shown. I am sure the above money could have been used quite productively as opposed to being squandered in a futile war.

I agree that the U.S. should never have been there in the first place, but now that we are I feel the only right way to handle things is to continue.
The death and destruction that is taking place there now is bad, but I believe it would be much worse if the U.S. were to leave. I think massive "punishments" of different groups would take place, even entire towns being leveled (with the people of course).
How what's taking place now could be a surprise, I have no idea. But now that we're in I think we have to stick it out for the long term.

Ah the credulity of the masses...

If the war in Iraq DIDN'T ever take place...we'd all continue to be fleeced...and NONE of the "problems" that could've been fixed with the money now instead being used for war, would be used for anything...other than cleverly being diverted to the Senate and Congress' "pet projects" to benefit their constituents.

Funny how when vital programs such as updating infra structure and staggering PERSONAL debt and public health etc are concerned...there is no available funding (they're cutting almost ALL "social" services right now) to help...the government is all tapped out...

But when a war is fought...miraculously theres' plenty of dough...(even if it's borrowed)...

All though it would seem logical that IF we weren't fighting in Iraq the "money" could be used for something more productive...THAT is wishful thinking.

It's all about priorities... the ENTIRE gang of thugs and rapists known collectively as "politicians" these days are so fuckin greedy (yes that includes Democrats!) that they should all be shot or run out of town.

They are no different than the WTS in this regard IMO.

I must agree (gasp!) with Mr.Simon...it's a moot question. "America" can't and WON'T leave Iraq...think of it as we substituted occupying Japan and Germany for Iraq... we spent untold BILLIONS for a "cold-war"...now we have a "hot-war"...There is no "solution" but to leave would be an even bigger disaster...

Maybe the WTS was onto something with the whole...Beast (gov't) turning on the Harlot (Fundies) thing...It seems organized "religion" is always at the root of many of these problems...If it ever did in fact happen...I'd be all for it.

And as Prophecor mentioned...todays youth do not seem to have the aversion to it you'd think...( it's X-box come alive)...

    The times...they are a changin...

Does that mean the same should have been done during the LA riots or NO? It doesn't seem fair or just for the regular people who we have inflicted this chaos on!

Not quite the same. LA and NO are in the USA. Besides, the people in those cities are armed well enough already.

Oh yeah. You can say that again.

We've agreed before lots of times. Sometimes we don't though.

Sorry to hear about the allergies.

I never thought we should have gone over there, still don't. But now that we've opened the can of worms I think it's best to fix what we can but get the hell out of there asap.

I do not agree with the USA being there in the first place.
