It looks like the Moslem community is planning on staging mass protests regarding this shooting.

Too bad they didn't think it necessary to protest the murder of the 55 people murdered by Moslem terrorists.

Imagine how embarassing that is for the police now, what a blunder and a humilation, but still they are not saying why they thought he was suspicious to begin with when clearly he was as irrelevent to the bombings as they were.

So now we have the truth. All those who posted in support of the execution should be ashamed.

It appears that this man was innocent. That is truly a shame. I hope his family finds some comfort but I doubt they will.

Since I never supported the "execution" of this man, I feel no shame. I also don't consider it an execution. I don't think the policeman saw this as an opportunity to execute, but rather a matter of doing his duty to save lives. I also bet he probably feels awful. But I am being presumptuous on both those counts. Whatever else it was, it was at least an awful tragedy that no one should take any pleasure in, even if it means you get to win an argument.

I also hope that the reaction to this is a sober one. The police need to stop killing innocent people, on the other hand, innocent people need to be protected from terrorists. Any reaction needs to balance those two very important considerations.

The first question that needs to be answered is did the police follow procedure? The second question is if they did follow procedure, can the procedure be changed to prevent this from happening again, without adding risk to those who need to be protected.

I have every confidence that the authorities will make the right choice if they are given the opportunity. I am not sure they will be given the opportunity.

It will be an even greater tragedy if many innocents die in the future, because the police are saddled by unrealistic restraints on the use of force. THe world just isn't so easily divided between the right and wrong choice. The choice is always a matter of trade offs, who has to pay the consequences, and who decides. Ideally the ones who pay the consequences are the ones who decide! Reality rarely offers us that luxury.

Maybe it is enough to simply educate the public that it is a good idea to not run from the police and give chase while boarding trains? Let everyone know that such behaviour will lead the police to no other alternative then to use deadly force. Becuase I am not sure they have one. Just a thought.

What has this got to do with it? Do you go out protesting the illegal killing of all the people in Iraq? No, I doubt it.

I have every confidence that the authorities will make the right choice if they are given the opportunity. I am not sure they will be given the opportunity.

Well, given their track record I think the authorities have got us into a pretty awful state. I have no confidence in them whatsoever.

this poor guy, and his family, on the one hand. on the other: what was he doing running from the police at a subway station during a hightened terror alert, again?

Christ, since when do we take our policing clues from the Americans or Israelis?

I cant believe you have NO confidence in the police whatsoever? Are they really that bad in Machester? Does that mean you never report a crime? If you were in a dangerous situation and they turned up would you ask them to go away? (e.g. my boy/f was surrounded by football hooligans once and they escourted him out of the middle of them at risk to themselves, and put him in a van and drove him home.) Should he have said ' I dont trust you guys at all, leave me to it.'?

I find that quite sad, because although I know miscarriages of justice occur, I did think our police can still be trusted on the whole. I would still report a crime to them. Ive had a meeting with my local crime prevention officer who arranged to have mobile cameras put in my area to deter some vandals that were getting into the habit of coming round. Should I have said 'I dont believe your going to put the camera there, and if you do, I dont believe the camera is going to do any good (wouldnt that be a bit defeatist?)

Its the court system I trust less.

For instance a little girl I knew was raped. The police caught the man, the CPS prosecuted him, the court let him off because he lived with his mum and was 'nice' to her.

I know at least three policemen who are genuine people, and are concerned about doing a good and honest job. Just like I am.

Too much is being made is being made of the fact that this guy ran from the police. It would be more relevant if they had to shoot him from a distance to stop him entering a train etc. The fact is they caught up with him and one guy held him down while another carried out the execution. Whether he ran or not seems irrelevant because they caught up with him. Also make on mistake they would have shot him if he had been compliant bearing in mind they seemingly had him down as a suicide bomber who was likely to set off the bomb.

So you were right ISP. The police are brutal stupid killers, who shoot to kill for no reason whatsoever.

Being 'right' is no big deal. I would say that exercising reasonable sensibility generally means you do better. If the ball is out, say so, make the call. Thats how I saw it. What happened was wholly unacceptable. If we are to keep our shape as a country despite terrorism we have to do better.

Your comments about the police are too generalised and are not my thoughts. I have been critical of this particular event. Hope that helps.
