Things I love about Texas

I lived in Houston from January 79 thru the end of October 1980 and then later Andrews, away out there in the Permian Basin, lower panhandle, thick of oil country.

    Things I love about Texas:

    • I had my daughter there on March 4, 1979. She's officially a Texan. Like most Texans, she's mighty proud of it, too.
    • The breathtaking bluebonnet springs that make you feel like you're where heaven and earth overlap. When Carrie-Anne was born, it was spring of course and there were oceans of bluebonnets blooming everywhere.
    • The pride (not obnxious at all) that Texans take in their beloved state.
    • The different landscapes you can enjoy while there.
    • I love Alpine, Ft. Davis and Big Bend National Park the very best and then Corpus Christy. Each area of Texas has its own beauty. Even the Permean Basin has it's beauty. It's awe inspiring to see so much sky. You can see a thunderstorm coming for miles.
    • Cowboy hats, boots, western wear are not a fad in Texas. I've been even known to wear them there.
    • The Galleria in Houston is cool.
    • I used to love Good Time Charlie's at the top of Sharpstown Mall in Houston.
    • Big Springs is a nice mountain town. There was a brother there, named Brother Gamboa who did Swedish massage. He was amazing and could tell you when you needed to go to the doctor by the way your insides felt. A very kind and healing man.

Something I didn't like was the litter in Houston, including a dead horse by the road by a shopping center that was left there for a week.

May 6th, huh? Crawfish, huh? How about watermelon? We have to have watermelon. I could use some real peaches. Yankees cannot grow decent peaches--they don't have the sweetness of Georgia or Parker county.

    Hmmmm....gonna check out cheaptickets.com later.....

    hmmmm

Girl, you come on home and I will find you some Parker County Peaches and a red ripe watermelon.

    y'all come!!

Tanya Tucker - Texas When I Die Lyrics

When I die I may not go to heaven
I don't know if they let cowboys in
If they don't just let me go to Texas, Boy!
Texas is as close as I've been.

New York couldn't hold my attention
Detroit City couldn't sing my song
If tomorrow finds me busted flat in Dallas
I won't care, 'cause at least I'll know I'm home.

When I die I may not go to heaven
I don't know if they let cowboys in
If they don't just let me go to Texas, Boy!
Texas is as close as I've been.

I'd ride through all of Hell and half of Texas
Just to hear Willie Nelson sing a country song
Beer just ain't as cold in old Milwaukee
My body's here, but my soul's in San Antone.

When I die I may not go to heaven
I don't know if they let cowboys in
If they don't just let me go to Texas, Boy!
Texas is as close as I've been.

When I die I may not go to heaven
I don't know if they let cowboys in
If they don't just let me go to Texas, Boy!
Texas is as close as I've been.

I love Texas, don't get me wrong. No state tax is cool, but you do pay for it these days with a lack of programs. It used to be that oil revenue paid for a lot of things that income taxes would pay for.
