Jud ... whether I have kids or not has no bearing on the issue. It's like asking a witness who is told by a doctor that they need blood. A Christian based belief takes priority.

Yes it most certainly does have bearing. So much easier for you to turn a blind eye when you don't have to worry about a "rule" affecting you personally.

As a parent, my first priority is to my children, children that Jehovah God himself gave to me. And you can bet your sweet @ss that if anything like that ever happened to either of my children, I'd take everyone down with me if anyone dare tried stopping me from seeing to it that the SOB fried. And if you think for one minute that "a Christian based belief" takes precedence over my children (or anyone else's), you've been smoking something.

My JW husband has this to say about the child abuse policy: "No idea why that is that way. I would use a .45 close range, double tap to be sure, to solve any child molestation issues... but thats just me".

Big Tex ... thanks again. I hope you know that I mean nothing bad towards you and the pain of your past. In your case though, say if I was your parent ... I would still have gone to the police ... let the chips fall where they may. The person I discuused this with (a mature, highly regarded sister) told me that the first thing to do is 'report it to the police'.

Ways of dealing with these issues may have changed over the years ... I don't know. Today, I doubt there would be any problem with any member reporting any unlawful act to the police.

I"m glad you have peace of mind in relationship to your feelings in God. That is what it is all about. I feel the same way but totally without reservation that He directs His people via the society. I am willing to wait on Him for all the answers to the terrible plight of man today.

Consider me a friend if you ever need one :)

Didn't this all start with a few simple questions asking for some scriptures? Funny how everything unravels so quickly when one piece is missing...especially at the foundation.

    AFIN,

I say this with the sole intent to help you, not insult you. I said, in response to a 'should JW's just stick their heads in the sand and hope it goes away?' comment:

The right thing to do is stick your head in the sand and try to convince yourself that you are misunderstanding the issue, you don't have all the facts, Jehovah will take care of it in his due time, something. Anything. Anything at all but actually ask yourself, "Could this really be happening in GOD'S organization?"

Then, in response to the child abuse issues you've seen reported firsthand here, you said:

I feel the same way but totally without reservation that He directs His people via the society. I am willing to wait on Him for all the answers to the terrible plight of man today.

Do you see how you're following the programming you've been given to follow? You don't have to be like this. It's a choice you can make to let it go. Really, if you see a problem, wouldn't God see it too? The very idea of "waiting on god" makes no sense, when could a mere human ever be out in front, blazing a trail that God himself hasn't caught up to yet?

Just allow yourself to think about it. Don't chastise yourself for thinking. A good exercise is to argue FOR a position you don't hold. Try to come up with reasons that a person could support it, even if you personally don't. It helps you to see both sides of an argument. If you still hold your current beliefs, you'll hold them stronger for your effort. If not, then you would have wanted to change them anyway. Win-win.

    Take care,

    Dave

Before you can send a person to jail (possibly for life) , if I were the accused, I'd want a LOT of evidence to convict me. No offence to any accuser, but there had better be proof positive before any allegation is taken seriously.

    That's a really sad approach.

Please go out on a whim and answer OS's question?! I'd really like to see what you have to say without sweeping it under the rug to send people to the elders. Or could the Truth be that there is no answer!

lonelysheep ... you have a big problem. You think I have a sad approach that an innocent person could rot in jail?????

In case you had trouble reading my answer before ... I"ll repeat it just for you "REPORT IT TO THE POLICE"

AFIN, how can you be so callus? To say that you PERSONALLY would go to the police with the matter is nothing but rationalizing. You are going AGAINST the direction of 'God's organization' just by saying that.. do you realize that? Yet on the other hand you still promote the organization and its policy's. By doing so you are turning a blind eye to the abuse issues that you are a party to by just being a part of that Org. It's so pathetically obvious that people like you are sacrificing true empathy for people because you care about that man made org more that anything. THINK. God isnt doing ANYTHING to help these kids right now, if he ever will, I have no idea. WE HAVE TO HELP THEM OURSELVES.

Well if you think any child molester on this planet is going to invite two witnesses to watch, you are smoking something.

In any case, have you spoken to the people who have been DF'd for following your oh so insightful advice of "REPORT IT TO THE POLICE"?

The point is, there should be no backlash for a victim who reports their crime. In the Society, there has been. Care to enlighten us? "Report it to the police" is an empty offering when the insinuation is that doing so would bring reproach on Jehovah's Organization (and thus the insinuation is - don't do it).

I would like anyone to show me where the society says "Do not call the police".
