Does the Bible scare anyone else here sometimes?

well if there is a better way to leave, I'd like to do that.

Just leave, live your own life and enjoy it without saying anything.
They may start to view you as "wordly", but not "apostate".
That way you're likely to retain your family, whereas speaking about doubts will likely alienate them.
That doesn't mean an occassional counter-witness might not be effective, but it really depends how much stomach you have for it.

Remember this - you don't owe anybody an explanation! You are YOU, and an adult. You don't have to talk to someone if you don't want, you dont have to answer questions if you don't want. So, don't let them control you or place demands on you, if you don't want!

I wouldn't be disfellowshipped because I am not baptized or anything yet.

That's the best news I've heard all day!

The Bible has never scared me at anytime.

Its those who claim to be able to interpret it and claim only they can that scare me.

Hi Missy , i know where you are coming from in connection with your question.

Recently i have started reading the bible without all the WT publications and i came across a number of things that made me think.(i,m not telling you shouldnt read any of their publications as there is a lot of infomative information in them. But there is also alot of stuff that would make your mind boggle- so i will remain neutral when it comes to WT publications)

One eg and to be perfectly honest with you, i lead my life daily by this one portion of scripture coming straight from the mouth of jesus.

At matthew 18:16-19 tells us how a young man wanted to know what to do to get everlasting life?

Jesus replied by saying observe the commandments continually!....which ones :the man asks

Jesus says: why,you must not murder ,steal ,commit, adultery etc...and then in verse 19 finally says honor your father and mother and you must love your neighbor as yourself! // But then Jesus stops at that point ....He didnt go into a huge amount of detail ...Just the basics of living a peaceful life .

Of course Jesus did mention many things throughout the scriptures and of course the most important commandment is that we must love God with our whole heart ,soul and mind. We would do this by applying the basics of the above mentioned and praying to him to keep these commands that we can be at peace with ourselves, our neighbors and most importantly with God.

It was only after that he pressed Jesus further in verses 20-24 by saying that, he was doing these things what was he lacking. jesus said to him if you want to be perfect (note he didnt say he was lacking but if he wanted to be perfect) go sell your belongings and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven and come be my follower. The young man was grieved at this as he had a lot of possesions .Then Jesus went on to say about it being difficult to be a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven etc

But the point i take from this scripture was that this man was sincere and that he was keeping the commandments . If he had not asked what am i lacking Jesus would probably not have mentioned to him if he was to be perfect.Yes if he had done exactly as Jesus had said ..sold his belongings and followed him ..His reward would have been great and clearly that would be the case.

But did that mean to say that he wouldnt gain everlasting life by not selling his possesions etc.

The very fact he was asking Jesus what he had to do to gain everlasting life showed he believed Jesus was the messiah .He was keeping the commandments and as far as i can see he was on the way to everlasting life by keeping the commandments and believing that Jesus was the way ,the truth and the life.

So to cut a long story short .I base my life very much around the principles of this portion of scripture .Although i do have my weaknesses like everyone else , i still try to live in accord with what Jesus simply said here.I also read the Bible Daily and love much of what Jesus says .I find that i can approach God Jehovah/Yahweh through Jesus and speak to him as a friend as well as being my God.

Put simply i just try to lead as good a life as i can and enjoy every moment to the fullest and treat people of all sorts the way Jesus would have, with respect and dignity as far as a person can .

I hope this hasnt been to long winded for you.But dont be afraid of the bible .There are things hard to understand .But just look at the simple message it is trying to give ie to show love to your neighbour (everyone) and to love God with all your Heart, soul and mind.

You say you are giving yourself a few days before you tell them how you feel. Are you refering to the elders? If you are planning to move an hour and a half away why not just say good bye to everyone and move. No one has to know your decision. This way you aren't commited in any way and also give yourself time to think things out without any pressure.

When I was eighteen I had ALL the answers. Life has a way of teaching us that all the terrific looking things on the other side of the fence aren't so green close up. Just take your time, you aren't missing out on as much as you think you are.

    Take care,

When I was 18, I had better answers than my parents did. I left the JWs and began living a life of freedom instead of slavery.

    A friend in need,

Nah, I don't mean the elders. I mean my best friend, a witness. I have to do some sort of explaining to her since I talk to her every night on the phone and she is very 'worried that she is losing me to the world.'

I'm not moving, sis lives like an hour and a half away or something like that, and I want to work with her. I would be staying there alot if this happened but I would still be living here.

I don't have any family to worry about losing since there are none that are witnesses, although I consider my best friend, the witness,to be like family, like my second mom.

Sounds like you have decided what you want and all I will do is wish you well. If this is really your choice, your friend will feel the same way someday. Just give her time. She only wants what is best for you. Remember that you can return if you ever change your mind. Take care,

My belief in the society is strong enough that if they see fit to change a belief, I would agree. That is because I have full faith that they are the true representatives of God and Christ Jesus.

I'm one of the few on this board who has never been a JW. I have visited numerous Christian churches over my lifetime, and I must tell you, your statement above is made by hundreds of thousands of members of at least three of the denominations that I have visited. Their belief is just as strong, if not stronger than yours. Now what does that tell you about either their religions or their belief, or more importantly your belief as well? To me, it just means "keep an open mind"... there is more under God's Heaven than men would lead us to believe. my 2 cents

    Double Edge:

What does that tell me about my beliefs, their beliefs and their religions? How could you possibly know their beliefs are stronger than mine? I doubt very much that you are intimately aquainted with that many people to know their true inner feelings. You certainly don't know mine.

What it does tell me is that I am among hundreds of thousands who are devout believers in our chosen faiths.

You will know them by their fruits. Identifying mark will be love. His ppl would have love amongst themselves. Faith without works is dead.

Personally, I would not want to be associated with an organization that so blatently contradicts the bible. Yes, there are good ppl in the JW religion but the bottom line is...guilty by association. If a person can sit there and listen to some man tell a group of ppl that in order for their dreams to be realized, (everlasting life, lions, food aplenty) then billions of people's dreams must be destroyed then I do NOT applaud that person for gracing us with their presence.

What have JW done for the world???? Bugged ppl Sat morning, made ppl have suicidal thoughts, ripped apart families, given no recognition therefore no closure to abuse victims, let ppl/children die due to 'no blood, ew no blood' laws, made ppl live in a fantasy world, taken away hope, let ppl go to prison to prove their faith, discouraged higher education, discourage childbearing, stolen youthfulness, scared people, taken away all fun holidays, guilted the hell out of people, promised the end then not delivered, made members follow one code of conduct and themselves another, quietly joined worldly organizations while members are not allowed to, made humans giddy about the coming death and destruction of other humans, wasted people's time, I COULD GO ON AND ON AND ON AND ON............

Do the man-made laws, rules, regulations, principles gleaned from the bible, scare me? YES, when JW are the ones doing the interpreting.
