We just called Christina so have some more news:
He's had the operation, quite a big one that turned out to be the equivalent of three in one go, but he's recovering well. He has started to eat a bit and will possibly be coming home towards the end of next week if he gets his strength up which is good news.
It's good to hear that he's on the mend.
BTW: I took the liberty of editing out his address just in case he doesn't want it making public. If anyone wants to sent cards or well-wishes then I'd suggest PM'ing one of us.
