Wasn't Saddam ousted for doing precisely this sort of thing?

I am just shocked and pissed off. It is torture and degredation in my book....There is no excuse for this....none...

Of course there is no excuse for it. No one is trying to MAKE any excuses for the behavior of these so-called soldiers.

What IS patently offensive is the implication that their obviously condemned actions are supported by the American people, of our Army, of Bush himself. The very TITLE of this thread carries that insulting implication, as does some of the other comments.

I do show damn respect because throughout my life here in New York I have had many Muslim friends and coworkers. In fact, I at one time studied the Koran with Nation Of Islam members in Harlem New York. I treat all muslims in my job with respect and no different than someone from my own race or nationality.

However its very easy to say the violence has to stop, but when do we stop it? Isreal and Palenstine have been fighting since the 1960's, the World Trade Center was bombed in 1993. When does it end?

And I always show respect for others on this board, I was called an idiot by a fellow board member, is that showing damn respect for me?

I rarely participate in political threads here because it is such a touchy subject that hurts so many feelings, and I know this is your board I respect that, but please, I do show damn respect for others. Dont make me look like I;m the bad guy.

That ought to be a clue as to just what will not end it.

Apparently, in spite of all the rhetoric, and what else does one expect from the New Yorker, and the NYTimes, and Simon Herschel who's already been thoroughly discredited, we're not talking about torture here. We're talking about humiliation and intimidation to soften people up in preparation for interrogation. At least that's what's coming out now. I'll tell you what, I'm all for that, if they can get information out of these guys by humiliating them then that's a good thing. If they throw them into shredders or feed them to Dobermans, then that's something different. I should have known this was a bogus deal when I saw where it was coming from. Of course all the anti-US people don't need any excuse to start foaming at the mouth, they'll do it at the drop of a hat.

Indeed. See my comments in the other thread, emotionally entitled "The Abuse Goes All the Way to the Top." Really people, did you just SKIP critical reading/thinking courses in college/univesity? Do you just BUY whatever crap these anti-bush hate mongerers dish out?

Not trying to offend, but READ. Really read, and study what's being thrown at you. If you haven't already, take courses in critical analysis/thinking. These are the things that JWs, of course, discourage.

Secondly, OF COURSE no one wants to see their loved ones abused and MURDERED. That's the point. We in the US didn't like seeing 3000 of our men, women, children murdered, nor our US landmarks and govermental/military seats treated in such a matter. That's patently obvious.

But I'm in disbelief at this attitude that the isolated actions of these soldiers, deplorable as they might be, are somehow representative of the ENTIRE US people, and of course, of Bush himself.

Ah, but it's OK to take the actions of a few Terrorists as being representative of the ENTIRE IRAQI population is it? It justifies killing thousands for some sort of revenge / vendetta to buy the president some brownie points as "being tough on terrorists"?

You people truly have a lot of nerve. Bush himself went to great lengths to STRESS that the actions of the terrorists are NOT representative of true believers of Islam. He went to great lengths to MAKE SURE US citizens did not lash out on the Arab community, because THEY were not the terrorists.

Well, he comes out with babling words. He also said they were on a crusade - words designed to inflame the situation. He condemned the photos ... but strangely nothing has been done, no one investigated over all the other claims of abuse and mistreatment. He *had* to do something because the photo's were in the papers. When he and the chain of command weren't forced to do something they didn't. I think that says a lot.

"There are no bad soldiers ... just bad officers". Already those involved are saying that they were told to do this.

    Shameful.

Can we now add "win hearts and minds" to "we'll win in a week with shock and awe" as yet another piece of bunkum.

Not even one of the 9-11 hijackers were Iraqi. Most of the hijackers were Saudi Arabians. And that's a different country. So whatever our motivation for invading Iraq, revenge for 9-11 is just not relevant.

I can't believe this issue is still being discussed. I go away for a weekend and this is still being beat to death. What happened was wrong, and those responsible are being punished. Littlewitch...I don't know how it is you think you know the military, but it's more than just possible, but rather, it's extremely likely that no officers were aware this was taking place.

The REAL question is why did CBS publish the pictures? This endangered US soldiers lives. This story could have been told without the pictures. Some people have NO common sense. I make ZERO excuses for what these idiots did...throw the book at them...but to publish these pictures served no other purpose than to inflame Iraqis and endanger the lives of US soldiers.

As to the issue of homosexual conduct in the middle east....withing Jordan....and to a lesser extent Iraq...same gender sex is quite common among single men...and winked at. When I was in Jordan on of the quick lessons I learned was that if the Jordanian soldiers shared their tea with you, it was a good thing...but if they invited you to see their barracks...refuse the invitation...unless you like being....well...penetrated and probed. That doesn't make what happened any less humiliating for these Iraqis...but to start pointing out that in Saudi and Iran homosexuality is punishable by death is like pointing out that pornography is illegal in the Vatican when it isn't in Italy proper.

    Final comment....

Isreal and Palenstine have been fighting since the 1960's,.... when does it end?
I'm not sure who said that...but the fighting has been going on since 1948...it will end when the Arabs stop....accept Israel as a state...and accept that they will never possess all of the mandate territory...and there's no such thing as a "palestinian"...they're arabs from around the arab world...egypt (like Arafat), Jordain, Saudi, etc etc etc.

So far, it is not 6 but 17, according to this report by CBS News.

    http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/04/27/60II/main614063.shtml

?I'd like to sit here and say that these are the only prisoner abuse cases that we're aware of, but we know that there have been some other ones since we've been here in Iraq,? says Kimmitt. Kimmit is Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, deputy director of coalition operations in Iraq.

I was married to a career Navy man (22 years service)

My neices fiance is in Falujah

My good friend has a son in Iraq (over a year now)

Another good friend who served from the beginning of the war to just recently (home safe thank god)

My brother is a veteran marine

    My father served his country

    My grandfather served in WW2

I think that gives my opinion some weight don't you?
