Once the first card is removed...the whole house of cards comes a-crashing down!

The BIGGEST step? Is first giving oneself permission to START investigating the faith....

The flood account. How could the mountains arisen to the height they are now. I forgot how many hundred's of feet they had to rise each day. That seismic motion happening all over the earth would have rip this planet apart. After considering that thought I ask myself if the WT is wrong on this what else are they wrong on. SO many things!

    So true.

I have a few but will mention the top 2.

    1. When "this generation" was changed in 1995, I had a hard time accepting that "we" were taught for so long that this was pretty much settled sometime shortly after 1914 and was a rock-solid teaching. When I tried to talk to a fellow elder about it, he was older and saw so many things change so he casually said "Things change."
It didn't sit well with me, it didn't fit to just accept that the light gets brighter because the light would have been off with the change of understanding. It was studied at the meeting and someone read the answer to the question about it and then, BAM! All was changed like it was no big deal.

    2. I saw so much nepotism, protecting of JW families of elders to the degree that it was a double standard. And then I was taught via elders school and letters that elders could be forgiven for things like viewing pornography without even a judicial hearing or loss of privileges. I started noticing more and more double standards and extra privileges among higher ups.

A wat study comparing jeh to an ant, a rock badger and some other critter. I thought is this the best they got? But truth or not, just didn't want to do it anymore. Paradise in exchange for worshipping and praising jeh every day-------not for me

Russell said he was the FDS then he died. then they print that Jesus chose Watchtower in 1919 to be the FDS. How? What was the defining moment? If that isn't true then nothing else they say is true. THEN Jackson tells the ARC that it would seem presumptuous to say they are God's only spokesmen aka the FDS.

I think for me it was researching 607 as Jerusalem's destruction date and the huge impact on how you can't have 1914 and 1919 if Jerusalem wasn't destroyed in 607. Also the false predictions. I never thought that that actually happened and my jaw dropped when I researched it.

Absolutely! Without that mindset, we will always be imprisoned by the Christian exhortation to have faith without doubts.

Anyway, for me i think it started in August 1945, with a talk to elders (in the Greenacre Assembly hall) by Nathan Knorr and his sidekick, Freddy Franz. Knorr introduces Freddy saying something like,

"It seems that there is not enough time left in 1975, for all the things to happen that Bro. Franz says must happen before Armageddon can/will come, so Bro Franz will discuss this."

It was the body language between them that I focused on. Knorr was clearly irritated by the failure of Freddy's prophetic utterances. And nothing that Freddy said that night made much sense (I already knew his apologia - it was set out in the 'Life Everlasting' book of that time.

Bu worse was to come, a former Aussie Branch Overseer, Doug Held was sent out here to 'encourage' us. In his talk he commented that the big A. might be 20 years away. Huh!!! And all that after something like 5+years (prior to 1975) of constant reminders at meetings and assemblies and in the literature of the period to 'stay alive in '75.

And everytime I do get into a discussion with witnesses and someone tells me that they were in the 'truth' then and the organisation didn't say it, over enthusiastic brothers said it, it becomes clearer to me that I fell for the biggest load of bullshit ever.

....and "blood fractions" and Bethel layoffs (getting rid of your "family" to save money) were huge factors too.
