Research has shown that immigrants (including undocumented) have a positive effect upon reducing crime rates - obviously not counting the crimes that illegal immigrants commit every time they enter a country illegally. lol

Also, there must be many unsolved crimes committed by illegals because illegals aren't on the radar.

BTW nice, unbiased source you've used there, Pete.

Really? You take issue with the Oxford Research Encyclopedia? It's about the most highly regarded nonpartisan research medium, seen as a model for all.

You take issue with the Oxford Research Encyclopedia? - in this instance, yes.

It's clearly biased in favour of immigrants (legal and illegal).

Every time an illegal immigrant enters a country illegally they're committing a crime. Someone needs to point this out to these twats at Oxford.

Nice term -- "Xenophobic" you sound brainwashed by fake news to me! They have a derogatory term for everyone not buying their crazy socialism/communism. Can't believe I was part of their rhetoric (college kid) at one time. I'm embarrassed.

Many of you have never hired illegals - or at least hundreds of them. Hard to differentiate legal docs from illegal and many are hard-working, family-oriented, lovely, people. Many are not so good just like all races. Maybe you should attain a level of experience in reality world before you label others. Just a thought - pretend it's fake news.

What's amazing is how duped, XJWs, buy into anything without gathering the facts/evidence of politics which is critical, but that's what humans do best - believe what we want to believe and too time consuming to do the work -- there's certainly no journalism left out there on 99.999% of media. It's easier to go along with a party of ole ma/pa kettle but it's not sound. I appreciated many factors of both sides but WOW - it's not easy being gullible, either. Get the facts then judge others and label.

So weird...here to even get a shotgun licence you have to be squeaky clean and have no criminal offences against your name whatsoever. Then your doctor has to confirm that you're not even a teeny weeny bit crazy. Once that's all established you get a visit from the police to view the lockable steel cabinet in which you propose to keep the weapon.

Yup, and this is the type of gun control that we need in the US, maybe even a few more things. The issue is that after centuries of gun free-for-all policies, there are now hundreds of millions of guns already on the streets, so it's debatable if at short term it would do anything. But perhaps longer term, it could begin moving things in the right direction.

No reasonable person can be against measures that will help keep guns out of the hands of crazy people. The only people that are against are... well those who know they would red flagged.

I am currently applying for a firearms ID card, and in my state there is a decent amount of control ( which is not even enough). Guess what?? I have no issues with it. Bring more checks. I'm confident I can be vetted, and maybe some nutcase out there won't.

I agree re/firearm control checks -- more is needed although if someone wants a firearm or weapon they're going to attain some way. The Dayton individual should have not been left with a Swiss Army key-chain knife but he was out on the streets and no lock down for the mentally insane.

Proliferation precludes regulation. Many times the guns on the street or used by domestic terrorists weren't legally bought in a gun store by the offender, they were stolen or borrowed or purchased from the people who bought them in a gun store. Millions and millions and millions of guns can't be tracked. While any effort to better screen who buys them openly is important, the gun advocates are right that there will still be millions and millions and millions of guns to steal or buy from other gun owners. At this point it would be very difficult task to put the genie back in the bottle. It could be done, go back to legitimate hunting purpose guns for the average public like it was just a couple decades ago. Buy back the many millions of guns that have no legitimate use and then begin seizing and arresting those who are still found to be concealing them. But I have no illusions it will happen, too many people like playing soldier and many more have deep seated fears feeling they need advance weaponry to protect them from the government et al.

I'm personally disgusted with the gun culture, so that in nearly any film there must be a gun scene and video games that adulate soldiers killing people. Soldiers are a necessary evil but only the psychopaths among them would want to be idolized for what they did.

Interesting you say this, because every so often you see news about deranged individuals say in China for example, where no one has guns, and so like you said they have to resort to knives, and here you really see the difference in the amount of carnage between the two scenarios.

In the scenario with a knife, the crazy person gets to kill maybe one person, before everybody else runs away or starts grabbing chairs and sticks to knock him out. A force multiplier such a gun, is a dif story

Research has shown that immigrants (including undocumented) have a positive effect upon reducing crime rates. Even where there are pandemic issues like violence and drugs, the factor most relevant was employment.

That's clear bunkum. One only has to look at the disproportionate number of illegal immigrants who are convicted of serious crimes.

Like most of these BS propagandist studies, it "conveniently" mixes up legal immigrants who are overwhelmingly law abiding, intelligent and hard working and who do bring benefits to the host country to water down the crimes that illegal immigrants commit.

It's deliberately deceptive to change the meaning of the data for political purposes. No different than if you included men when tabulating the rate of "death by childbirth" so it gave a lower number - it's a different group entirely.

Show the stats for each group separately and then we'll have a meaningful discussion about illegal immigrants.

I don't think anyone objects to legal immigration as long as there is a fair and sensible process. Anyone saying that Mexicans should not be allowed to enter the US legally would be racist, but that's not what anyone is saying, it's not what Trump is saying and it's not what conservatives are saying.

Immigrants bring with them their own set of cultural values which may or may not coincide with the social norms of the society they relocate too.

Most countries make some effort at assimilating legal immigrants, but illegal immigrants are own their own out of fear if nothing else.

The result here in the U.S. is neighborhoods and towns with crime rates comparable to the country of origin.
