Once got pulled in the back room by two elders. Why? I hadn't voted on the C.O.'s expense reimbursement.

My dad was told by an elder that he had to get rid of his beard. My dad argued with him over it saying that Jesus and disciples had beards. Elder said he thought the beard looked scruffy and they weren't supposed to have them. My dad said "well I don't particularly like your socks" and walked away and never went back.

We were told by an elder that we couldn't have our wedding filmed in kingdom hall because it wasn't showing respect to jehovah. Six months later a friend of ours got married in same hall and they were allowed to have theirs filmed. Was I mad!

Long ago I had a sweater with little embroidered hearts on it. An elderette informed me that I should not be wearing it in the month of February because it would stumble someone as Valentine's day is in Feb..

I was always getting the short skirts one....also stumbling the microphone handlers who would try to peer down my then non-existent cleavage. And we were in a cong full of ex-druggies and alcoholics and were always getting the business if you had a drink and someone knew about it. Morons.

Besides the fact that most of the councel I heard was not just bizarre but utter bullshit, here is one:

Because my sister would ride horses in jodhpurs (tight fitting pants commonly worn and accepted as appropriate horse riding attire in the global equestrian community) and often spend the day in them on weekends, she enticed young men with her sexually inappropriate dress which is what ultimately led to her seducing an elder's son and "having consensual sex" with her (she was in fact raped and he was criminally prosecuted for it). Yes it was all her fault for wearing jodhpurs!

Stop reading old society publications. They are not good for you.

And that means anything published prior to 2000.

I was catching up for dinner with a sister I thought was a good friend. Back then, I used to constantly change my hair style & colour. Nothing too drastic & no different to the many other jw females we both knew. She sat there and gave me a long lecture about how my hair is very worldly cause the cut was the latest fashion & the colour was not natural... Blah blah blah... I said to her: 'You dont have to like my hair, in fact, I don't care what you think about it. But it's not your place to judge me. And what about those 'sisters' with dark hair that colour it blonde? That's not natural - so according to you, that would make them worldly'. You guessed it, her natural colour was brown & she colours it white blonde. Then I picked up my bag, walked out of the restaurant & left her to pay the bill....

A few months later, she sent me a long email trying to suck up to me, telling me what she's been up to & asking me how I've been. My response: I'm doing really well, bye...

A MS would counsel me to leave everything to the borg if I died. I was only 15. What the heck was I to leave them, my secret porn stash?
