Hi all, the thread keeps being interesting.
Six of Nine & Lonewolf, appreciate the balance of your comments. Reasoned approaches such as yours really helps make the board valuable and interesting!
Island Woman, perhaps we're off on a tangent here with the "Community Responsibility" idea. Whether or not it's provable from scripture, there can be no doubt that the JW's feel a strong sense of 'community'. They take pride in acheivements from halfway around the world, and are incensed / defensive (and maybe rightfully so) when persecution or bad press hits a part of the brotherhood, even if it's far away. My point is, and I believe you'd agree, the JW organization is not immune to a large downfall. There are doctrinal issues always nipping at their heels (blood fractions, disfellowshipings), and there are larger animals that have caused and perhaps will in the future cause huge hits (1975 issue, pedophilia, just to name one past and one present/future). The organization will reap what they have sown, regardless of their claims to divine protection. So as a community, whatever bad comes will cause a major psychological blow.
I say those things out of concern for the people I love in the organization, and not out of judgment or self-righteousness. I cannot and would never want to judge the righteousness of individuals in the organization. "Stepper" is correct to say that there are many good individuals inside the organization. I hope nothing I posted before left any contrary impression.
Stepper, Saturday was quite a day for you! I hope some of what I said above helps you understand a little more where I am coming from. I continue to look forward to your views on this board. You mentioned "a lack of tolerance and arrogance" that you sensed on this board so far. I sense your frustration. Not to further press the issue, but you said much the same thing in your first post about some of what you saw out here. So perhaps you shouldn't be so surprised, since you said as much from the very start! I still await your telling more of your own account.
