Does Watchtower Society monitor this board?

I've seen it mentioned many times in many threads: "The Society monitors JWD, don't post anything you don't want them to know etc. etc."

I have even made that point myself in the past.

My question is this: Does the WTBTS monitor this discussion board?

Or have we all been propagating our own XJW urban myth?

Is there any direct or indirect/circumstantial proof that the boys in Brooklyn are keeping an eye on us?

People mention "monitor" like we are the mafia and they are the police with a constant, ongoing operation, to listen in to our little community.

The more I think about it, the less likely it seems to me. With all the headaches the GB has trying to keep their sinking ship afloat, why would they waste any manpower/resources to monitor JWD? Do they want to DF the "fade aways" that badly? That would just accelerate the reduction in their ranks, causing even more negative growth.

I could see someone in the Legal Dept. checking in on silentlambs.org or ajwrb.org occasionally, to see if there are any actionable slanderous statements.

But to imagine them taking the time to listen to us -- people they already consider "bird food" -- talk about our favourite CD or what we named our pet or whether we're visiting the Spring Sex Show ( http://www.springfeversexshow.ca) -- I really think that they think they have better things to do!

Don't get me wrong, there are many in-depth, well researched threads on this board, many have provided material for new sections of my own little web page. I just don't think anyone in those Ivory Towers in Brooklyn gives a rats ass about anything that goes on here.

When stirrings of problems arise among the congregations, whether started by posts here, or simply reported on by posts here, Brooklyn will find out the old fashioned way: the R&F ask their elders, and the elders will telephone Bethel to find out what the "correct answer" is.

In summary, Watchtower doesn't need to come here looking for trouble -- they get enough of that through their official channels.

Having said that, let me close by stating the my skepticism on this matter is, like all solid skepticism, provisional, not dogmatic. Reasonable evidence will sway my opinion.

So, if you have evidence of an ongoing "monitoring" operation of JWD, post it.

LDH, thanks. I don't want anyone to post anything they are not comfortable with revealing.

SS: while that may be true, the facts do not necessarily lead to your conclusion.

I think what you are doing with this example is called "post hoc ergo propter hoc" which translates roughly "after this, therefore because of this" -- a common logical fallacy.

True, the UN thing exploded on this board. It also was mentioned in The Guardian, a national newspaper that is delivered to the doors of many JWs. Applying Occam's Razor, it seems more likely that the story caused confusion in the R&F, they asked the elders, and it flowed uphill from there.

As long as something stays on this "apostate" board, they have no need to respond (as they did with the UN fiasco) because no good 'hovah believes us apostates anyways.

Why would you post,WBTS moniters this board?..Then ask us if WBTS moniters this board? Then ask us for evidence that WBTS moniters this board? If you already know WBTS moniters this board, then you already know the answers to your own questions. So why ask them?...OUTLAW

That's untrue, if the WT had denied being in the UN and kept there NGO membership. the R&F JW could look at the UN website and see the WT there. Even if they quit the UN and said they never were part of the UN it's still a matter of public record and without a UN cover-up, undeniable. Damage control sometimes makes the spin doctors chose the lesser of two evils. I don't think they could have done any thing ales. it might be that you underestimate the number of lurkers there are at JWD.

I do it for them. I just print off stuff and mail it to all the witnesses I know. And branch offices, bethel, etc.

Presently, I would be inclined to agree with your original post until I see some more solid evidence that they have someone literally sitting in a room somewhere monitoring this site on a daily basis and authorized by the WTS to do so.

Didn't Barbara Anderson see Silentlamb's posts somewhere when she was working at bethel? I got that impression from the Dateline programme.

Maybe they don't have people specifically tasked with doing it but I would not be surprised if some in bethel did look in at least now and again and possibly report things (althought I guess this would then cause them problems!)

I don't see any evidence of monitoring from a WT address in my logs but of coures if they did want to monitor it I doubt bvery much they would appear as themselves and would just use a.n.other AOL account.

Pehaps we'll never know ... until someone in bethel reads enough to change their mind and lets us know
