In all fairness to the parents, they surely figured that the instructor knew what he was doing. He was surpisingly careless.

To be honest, the little girl does not look like she has ever fired a gun in her life - Poor thing.
So not only were they putting a Class III weapon in the hands of a child, which is bad enough by itself, they put it in the hands of a child who had no idea what to expect. Even adults are surprised at how much the muzzle wants to climb.
