I have yet to see a JW volunteer to help ANY charitable organization that actually does anything. I have never heard a JW say that the WT could improve in their efforts to help people in practical ways. I suppose it's for at least 2 reasons:

    1) Criticizing the ORG is forbidden. [ Just try it and see what happens ]

    2) Worship of the Org is the actual practice of JWs. [ Just say you don't serve or worship the ORG or the GB, see what happens ]

Jws have been consistently presented with selected information for so long that they can only reach 1 conclusion. That is, the WT being a perfect ORG, ran by God. That premise, based on half-truths, omissions forms a " special relationship " between the ORG and the R&F. The R&F don't question because they have been conditioned to " wait on Jehovah." They just assume that the ORG is sending out special task forces to handle disasters. There is no " first responders " unit trained by the ORG. They call each other like normal people after a disaster, the word spreads and survivors help survivors. The only difference is that "worldlies" don't announce their righteousness ahead of themselves, or use humanitarian efforts [ which should be done because it's right ] to promote themselves above 99.9% of the population.

The fixation of the D2D work as being " the way " to preach, and the delusion of the WT and Awakes being " the truth ", has blinded JWs so much that they will literally hand a starving person a magazine about a future paradise where the starving person can eat. That is, if they don't just walk on past.. In the meantime they will berate "worldly", " Satanic ", " false religious" organizations who are actually feeding people, clothing people, and housing people. Then they will turn around and join the OSCE. Notice the first words in the following video.

The hypocrisy of the Org is simply astounding. They are such hypocrites that they will let a starving person die while claiming to " teach them to fish." The problem is that according to God's word, we should be " giving them a fish ", to keep them alive while we " teach them to fish." It doesn't make any sense to let someone starve while handing out magazines and books about a future paradise. Just imagine if the ORG started truly helping people 100 years ago. The END is so close! Only a few million more will die, so why bother? God will take care of it later....

" But whoever has this world’s means for supporting life and beholds his brother having need and yet shuts the door of his tender compassions upon him, in what way does the love of God remain in him? Little children, let us love, neither in word nor with the tongue, but in deed and truth."

" Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness."

We are usually amongst the first to arrive and provide support

Could a JW apologist please provide evidence of this? Please let us know which flights have been chartered to which airports with what skilled disaster teams and what equipment has been deployed? How are their efforts being integrated with other agencies to deliver aid to the areas most affected? What sustainable benefit will be achieved?

I am working with a team that have been deployed to Tacloban. They could have been dispatched early last week ahead of the typhoon but chose to wait until afterwards to ensure they got to the worst affected areas. They accessed this via flights with other aid agencies (many share logistics). It's a complicated model of relief with charities specialising in many types of aid (i.e. Oxfam in drinking water and sanitation). It's not about the speed at which they arrived its about the intergration of their services to the overall relief that is of value. To do this one must work with the charities who are experts at this... Red Cross / UN etc

Any help is good but please don't assume the WBTS is on the forefront of helping. No JW can take pride in their organisation for providing disaster relief - they are experts at token reporting not providing disaster relief.

Of course it is very human and natural to look after our own first. It's not biblical, though.

7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:7-8 NIV)

When I say "they", I mean the Organization in general. This would also include the leadership who should know better. The Organization should be a shinning example of spiritual education and humanitarian efforts. All "worldly" people should see the WTBTS as a beacon of hope. They should be leading the way in helping people. The WTBTS should be know by all as a real charitable organization. Imagine the increase in growth that they would experience as a result.

Individual Jws do help many, but the problem is that they ONLY help select individuals. Those select few are the ones who are "deserving", meaning they are potential JWs. I would even wager that the good JWs, although duped by the GB, are all that Org has going for it. True story, I was told that I was in the wrong for helping a neighbor in need and missing service. I should have went after service. I didn't matter that their emergency needed to be handled in the morning to the Eldumbs. It's all about visibility and practicing your righteousness before men.

" For if YOU love those loving YOU, what reward do YOU have? Are not also the tax collectors doing the same thing? And if YOU greet YOUR brothers only, what extraordinary thing are YOU doing? Are not also the people of the nations doing the same thing? "

    NOVEMBER 12, 2013 | JAPAN

Typhoon Wipha battered Japan’s eastern coast on October 16, 2013. The small island of Oshima, located some 75 miles (120 km) south of Tokyo, was among the hardest-hit areas. The storm’s torrential rains, which totaled some 33 inches (84 cm), caused rivers to overflow their banks and triggered massive mudslides, killing at least 35 people. The Japan branch office of Jehovah’s Witnesses confirmed that none of the members of the local congregation in Oshima were killed or injured. The home of one Witness family sustained roof damage, and fellow congregation members assisted with repairs. The local Witnesses also reached out to their neighbors, offering them aid and spiritual comfort.

    LOL!

Well, yeah, I suppose a copy of the "Bible Teach" book could provide some stomach-filling fiber to a starving storm survivor...

Since Mark Sanderson was serving at the Philippines branch prior to returning to the USA I would expect that the Society will be very visible with what they will do as regards the Philippines relief work. I expect we should get a letter concerning that within a week or two so I will be wondering what they will do. Their website has no mention of it yet.
