I think that if I had been exposed to this that type of Christianity, I'd probably be an atheist.

You know, that COULD be the thing, dear P (the greatest of love and peace to you, dear one!): that many (most?) here have never been exposed to anything other than the WTBTS form of "christianity"? It is... mmmmm... curious to me the position of born-ins compared to those who either went in as adults or perhaps associated with another "christian" religions after coming out (although the latter would have more to overcome than the former of these last two... and some still don't...).

You know me, I don't ascribe to any of them, but at least the others TRY to follow the pattern left by Christ (i.e., charity, helping others, even their enemies, forgiveness/mercy, etc.). And just as Christ calls his sheep out of the WTBTS, I've no doubt he calls those who belong to him but are in these out as well. Sooner or later.

But if the WTBTS form of christianity was all I knew (and not saying you mean them along, but I certainly do!)... yeah, I can see where atheism might be my only choice... heck, my only DESIRE... after getting out of that.

    Peace!

    Maybe that is it Shel,

I was raised a RC andby that I mean I was baptized and had comunion.

I was not confirmed because by then I was old enough to NOT be interested in religion.

We did the usual Church on special days only thing.

Then my mom became and JW, then my older sister an dthen my dad.

They tried to get me of course but that forced me to research and look into Christianity, into the JW religion and into all the others.

Never have I felt any of these negative feelings towards Christ.

I did feel negative feeling toward God and Christ over the years, anger even, but never for the reasons I mentioned before.

I'm thinking God must have been achingly lonely and criminally bored to the point He was compelled to manufacture diversions.

But, since He always instantly saw through it all it was disappointingly boring.

Then, the idea came to Him--manufacture creatures who can vex and surprise you and try to manage them without getting so pissed off you want to kill them all.

Now, that is a Genesis story a fella could believe in!

Waste your life and bet everything on the little white Roulette ball spinning around the Bible casino. Hope when your number comes up you hit the jackpot.
Better hope it is eternal life instead of the permanent inside of a coffin for the eternal dirt nap!

    1 Corinthians 15:12-19

12 But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15 More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19 If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied.

Paul said it himself. All that personal sacrifice, all that preaching, it would all be in vain.

That Christianity is a prison or makes you feel guilty about everything, makes you feel like you have to please God all the time, cramps your sex life, etc, etc

Man, I am glad that I never knew THAT Christianity.

The only time I ever felt guilty is when I did soemthing wrong and I have never felt in a prison or subjecated or "sexualy restricted" or felt like I HAD to do this or that to please God or felt fear of God.

...I agree with you whole heartedly...I was a born in JW, but raised by parents that came in from a Baptist background...so my JW experience was much nicer than most.

I cannot tell other how to feel about Christ. But I understand...when I first left, I was not interested in a Diety, but believe there has to be a higher power...because I feel everything has a beginning. I was not interested in Christianity...because I really thought it was a bunch of judgemental jerks (and there are quite a few). But I come to realize if you really have the spirit of Christ, it is very hard to judge.

But I feel more freedom with Christ. I'm not a prude, not socially repressed, I enjoy most things that I did prior to accepting Christ. But with knowing Christ, this is the REASON I don't feel any guilt or shame when I fall short by the standards of men. Because I know through Grace, there is nothing I can do to earn it (so why waste my time feeling guilty), even when I'm behaving, doing the best of works that man find worthy, like giving to charity, loving my neighbor, etc. In God's eyes I'm still a filty scroundrel.

I'm not your bible thumping type Christian. I believe God is Love. Love is God. So condemning others or myself is not how I choose to worship God.

The topic was what Christianity gives you....I don't know what Christianity gives you...but Jesus give me LOVE, JOY, FREEDOM. I would have never thought I would feel this way about Christ, because the JW and alot of Christians really had turned me away from God. But when I accepted Christ, my views changed drastically.

I really understand how you can be an atheist and I just hope you find peace in your choice. I love and enjoy ALL!!!!

Have you tried being informed/interested in any other Major Religion such as Islam, Judaism, Confucianism etc? Have you studied with the same honest inquiry as with Christianity?

Always was (still am) interested in what others believe and why. Took a World Religions course in school. Have looked a bit into various beliefs (if only to know for myself, so as not to be fooled by what others say about them, Islam in particular), tried to apply some of the peace and spirituality of Buddhism on my own (but I could not find it there); but none speak to me as being the Truth. Perhaps because none have Christ.

(that being said, Terry, 'Christianity' does not speak to me either... it truly does not. Only Christ does.)

    Peace,
