These guys have to be real morons. People wanting sex, will have sex. Yes, you can have sex with FB Chat. You can also have 'phone-sex'... now go, cancel your AT&T account, get rid of that phone. They haven't realized this is 2010, not 1945. You can have all the sex you want: Virtual, cyber, real... you pick. Closing accounts, getting rid of computers and gadgets will do no good.

Just like Jesus said about pharisees: They forgot about comforting and building up people's spirituality, and became all about controlling and condemning them.

Then he mentioned that all it takes is a crack in your faith and they can take you out of God's organization

In other words, all it takes is for someone to say ONE thing to get your brain clicking in the right direction to open the door for your out!

    Highlander, that was hilarious

I had a long lost jw friend find me on facebook the other day. She sent me a message. I gave her a very brief update and then told her I wasn't a jw anymore and she wasn't suppose to be talking to me so take care. If she writes again I'll have to tell her now that she shouldn't even be on facebook if she's a good jw!

    I think facebook's great!........wf

I don't believe that talking about sex is having sex. I don't believe that typing about sex is having sex. I don't believe that spanking one's monkey with one hand while typing about sex with the other and reading about sex with your eyes is having sex either. If you're alone, you're not having sex...period.

And I agree that this isn't a problem in JW world. The problem the GB has is that people are connecting with other people. Part of keeping people in a cult is keeping them isolated.

My daughter just told me that her 2 JW friends, 18 and 20, (not friends any more, she tried to prevent one of them from becoming JW for her boyfriend, and they both dropped her) deleted their FB accounts. Then, after a while.............they made new ones!! LOL.

that next local needs will be on "Do you really need a smartphone?"

    It's already started.

Our CO visited last month, and I heard reports that in the pioneer meeting, the outline from the Society explicitly recommended against smart phones. It was an "extra expense", not essential to living, and why should a pioneer have to work extra hours in order to pay for the phone and the data/voice plan? That time would be better spent out in service.

We don't have any young pioneers in our congregation, but can you imagine how well that would go over to anyone under the age of oh, 40?

Bunch of loons. They're going to have a real leadership crisis in 10-20 years, when most of the current elders have died off or burnt out and there aren't any replacements for them.

    You can also have 'phone-sex'

Oh, by the way, there was a CO meeting with elders maybe 9 or 10 years ago, where this was considered. Phone sex is a DF offense.

I.e., if you masturbate while "talking dirty" with a live person on the other end of the phone line, it counts as "porneia". At the time, I think the intention was to curb use of those old "900" numbers, but I'm sure they consider the principle to apply in other situations.

Since it was a CO meeting, it's one of those situations where elders have nothing "official" in writing from the Society - just their notes from the CO meeting.

    Sir82,

Last time I checked Society does not provide an outline for the pioneers meeting, so that CO was making up that crap (however, I have no doubt the GB would make such stupid recommendation). "The time would be better spent out in service"... and the money would be better spent sending it to the WTS! i would add.

Times have changed; in our cong even some of the ol' ladies that pioneer have smartphones and use them (two of them have iphones!).

I think the crisis will be sooner that that.

They're already in crisis mode. Over the decades I've never seen them so aggressive in their control as they've been since they divvied the WT into a PR version and a Kool Aid version. They're going even more loony than they've ever gone and thinking dubs are noticing. When close to 12,000 people partake at this year's Memorial, they're going to all have to change their Depends.

I think that this is just the latest 'demon' in the closet, in JW-Land. The problem that they are having is that it is getting more and more difficult to control the masses.

At one time, didn't they 'demonize' the television set? That didn't work - as most people now have one - if not more TV sets sitting in the home today.

Then it was probably cell phones... which most every person has today.

There will always be something. They've been battling the 'computer/internet demon' for several years now - the irony is that they say the JW does not need to go on the internet... and they - the mother organization - has an internet presence, with their web site. Huh? Do what I say - not what I do.

    Now, it's groups like Facebook.

One thing that I think that they are having problems with is 'catching' folks in JW-Land doing 'bad' deeds. In the 'old days', all they needed to do was park outside your home and stalk you. Eventually, they might see an extra vehicle sitting outside that belongs to someone else, and Bingo! they've got you! Time for a backroom meeting!

That gets more difficult today when folks stay at home and use their personal computers to access friendships via the internet. Of course... they MUST be having sex! That goes without saying! Afterall - that's what everyone thinks about every minute of the day, right?

It never ceases to amaze me how much they are still in the dark ages. My younger brother - who is a JW - has a small business cobbling together older model personal computer systems, and selling them - to JWs. The last time I talked to him, he was still putting together 486-ish and possibly 586-ish systems. Of course, that was a few years ago - so he has probably gotten into more recent systems.

I think that new technology scares the pants off of the higher-ups in JW-Land. They probably don't have much of an education - and many are isolated from much of the newer technology due to their location in the organization (I wonder how many of them still use typewriters) - so when they don't understand it - it MUST be demonized... right? (hears crowd shouting... 'Burn the witch!')

    Regards,

    Jim TX

Fortunately I've nver been to one, so I didn't know that.

Yeah, I could easily see this guy just making that up.

Of course, to most JWs, anything coming out of the CO's mouth is virtually gospel anyway.
