Holding hands during prayer contributes to cohesiveness of a group.
The thing about the wits is that they are not really very bright. When something like this comes along they are so starved for cohesiveness that it goes over the top. I would be uncomfortable with hugging face to face during prayer, but come on, holding hands?? Fact is the LEADERSHIP is so closed up that they are squeamish about any show of emotion.
