This should be required reading for all who lurk here.

I identified with many or most of these; I really liked the comment, "I died the death of a 1,000 papercuts." Didn't we all!

Of all the things you can point to, there is one overriding theme that pervades the JW life. It is the certain sense that comes over you in those unguarded moments when you realize it is all make believe. That the "love" that is supposed to be the "identifying mark" is just not real, but conditional, fickle, selfish and thoughtless. Before you "die" to the Witness life and become liberated, you've seen and felt the lack of real love a thousand times.

All those other things we've talked about here: They're just the events that push you over the edge. It's the paper cuts that get to you.

Welcome Alco Cop!!... most dubs would excuse the change in doctrine as the 'light getting brighter'. Judging by your example, soon being in law enforcement will be akin to being the son of Satan. Better get your shades.

For me it was bringing a bible study to meeting. We had such fun with our studies, but after sitting through a meeting she looked at me and said "you've gotta be kidding". I had no answer. What could I say? To get everlasting life you have to become a drone? Oh and by the way, wear a skirt that covers your tattoo next time.

I think it was a lot of things over the years. Getting chewed out for eating a piece of bday cake in 1st grade. Being raised hypocritically (sp), family life sucked compared to what they were preaching at KH. Being born in that was just the way it was. I think the kicker was when I decided I wanted a boyfriend around the age of 15yrs. My mom had the elders come over to try to save me. They didn't quote any scriptures they told me I should look up to a couple of older girls in the congregation as role models. What?! I thought, another girl my age and I knew they were doing wrong things/leading a double life. It just snowballed from there.

The love that the JW's boasted about having was more evident in the christian group of kids at my high school.

I've experienced the same reaction, especially towards the music.

I was eleven, and I loved reading Harry Potter on the sly. I saw no rational reason why I had to sneak these fairly innocuous books around, and was pretty annoyed by the whole thing.

Then I discovered the internet, which pretty much finished it all off.
