I am working on my bachelor's in nursing. I wanted to become a physician and was told by a biology teacher (when I was younger) that had what it took, he would write me letters of recommendation, etc. Yep, you know the rest of the story....
Anyway, now that I'm free, I plan to stay in school in one form or another all my life. I will use my nursing to volunteer in the underserved community locally and eventually, worldwide.
    Love,

    Larc,

I put off college right after graduation, partly because I married right out of high school and went to work full-time, but also because the Society discouraged it.

Then, about 3 years ago, I started back. I almost have my AA degree and want to go on to a 4-year college and double major in English/Psychology.

Looking back, I realize I could have gone to college years ago. It really was a conscience matter. But at the time, I felt I was doing the right thing by being obedient.

    Dana:

I graduated in 1980 and stayed in Tampa for several years - now live in Baltimore, MD.

LOL about the walking..... I rode at least two bikes into the ground in four years. There used to be a "bike fix-up" place somewhere on campus.... the concerts were awesome (Supertramp, Renaissance, the Outlaws, Warren Zevon); every week there were free lectures/discussion groups/movies on every subject under the sun. Every friday we'd start at around 2 pm: Busch Gardens for six free beers (year pass was $20; three free-beer stops inside with 2-beer limit); then off to "Slappy hour" at the Keg (still there?) with live local music and more beer... then usually pass out time. Uh, yeah, I was a party girl. Way before borgdom.

Sorry for the thread intrusion got carried away.... Dana e-mail me if you wish! I'd love to know if certain faculty are still there.

    smiles, lauralisa

    Larc,

Well, I dropped out of High School at the beginning of the 12th grade and a year later ended up going back to community college to pick up the courses I missed my Senior year. The local Dubs didn't like that I and my husband were going to college. (He was in his second year of an AS in Computer Science.) The whole thing went over like a lead ballon.

Several years later (while still a Dub) I began Community College again part time. In 1990, at the grand old age of 28 ( I was sure I would be the oldest person in my class, I wasn't I began my Nursing program and graduated in 1992 with an AS in Nursing.

Would really like to complete my BSN, I actually have all the study materials necessary to study for and then take the final exams for the necessary coursework required. Right now my hands are kinda full and I can't seem to find the time. Ultimately, I want to enroll in a Nurse Practitioner's program.

BTW, my husband with the AS in Computer Science, he went back in 1989 and completed his BS/Computer Science. He has worked as a software engineer (embedded systems) for more than 10 years.

Neither of us have ever regretted the time/money/or energy spent in getting an education. It is something that no one can ever take away from us. I heartily congratulate everyone who has gone back and pursued their education!!!

    hi openminded,

JanH-I am also interested in a graduate degree in Religious History. Are you currently working in your field? If yes, do you mind sharing what you do? thanks

I am not currently working in the field, no. Well, I am working on a preliminary stage regarding pursuing a PhD some time in the future, but I'm not hanging around the rel. studies dept, no.

Since I graduated with my MA, I've been working with other things (computer programming). Humanistic studies are rarely the best if you think $$$, but then, I rarely do.

I graduated from highschool in 1987. I went back to college after leaving the borg 3 years ago. I have 2 daughters now ages 4 and 8 and have been working part time. I graduated with an associates degree in Early Childhood Education in 2000, and just completed my transfer classes so I will be starting at Sacramento State University in January majoring in Social Science. Going back to college has helped me to grow sooo much. If anybody is considering it even one class a semester is worthwhile. I occasionally run into people from the hall and they ask what I am up to it feels great to tell them. Not that they are impressed but just because when they giv me that "oh big deal, what a waste" look. I realize it is a big deal and I see my former self in their eyes and think how far I have come. Can anybody relate to this feeling?

I have ordinary and higher national certificates in Mechanical Engineering/Engineering Production plus an associate degree in Human Biology, all obtained while I was a JW.

In addition, I have a UK Amateur Athletic Association One Star award. I think everybody except the fat and wheezy boys who sat on the side lines ('cause their mums sent notes) got one.
