    oompa:

I thought all this was clearly explained in the qfr earlier this year wasn't it?

    May 1, 2007:

Without a doubt, if one of the anointed unrepentantly falls away, Jehovah does call another individual to take his place. (Romans 11:17-22) However, the number of genuine anointed ones who have become unfaithful is likely not large. On the other hand, as time has gone by, some Christians baptized after 1935 have had witness borne to them that they have the heavenly hope. (Romans 8:16, 17) Thus, it appears that we cannot set a specific date for when the calling of Christians to the heavenly hope ends.

I understood all this only as a matter of replacing anointed ones that had fallen away. However, it is possible that I should have read the words "on the other hand" as an indication that (as stated even clearer in the Jan 15 WT) the number 144,000 has not yet been reached.

My comment "I can certainly understand why they didn't want to print this in a public WT" should really have been placed after "The WTS is in effect fastening their grip on the minds of the JWs".

    Edited to add:

    oompa:

It was in the public WT, but nobody but informed JW's would care to learn or study about it.

My in-laws seemed a bit embarrassed when they told me that "there is a new understanding". :)

Awakened, does this mean that "Great Tribulation" and "Armageddon" are now interchangeable terms?

I was always taught that the great tribulation was supposed to be a time of testing in the period before armageddon. What does the Insight book say? I can't find my old books.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Thanks for the PDF.. it's great.

Reading through page 13, now, saw the caption on the picture: "Thousands of honesthearted individuals are responding"

The word "honesthearted" is used often by the Society to describe those that accept "the truth." My daughter is studying advertising in school, and explained to me last night the concepts she's learning, of "original conditional statement", "converse statement", "Inverse statement", and "contrapositive statement".

Original Conditional = "If a person responds, they are an honesthearted individual"
Converse = "If people are honest hearted, they will respond"
Inverse = "If people aren't honesthearted, then they won't respond"
Contrapositive = "If you aren't responding, then you aren't honesthearted"

This is exactly what the caption is... a not-so-subtle inverse/contrapositive statement. It is mental conditioning that tells you: "if you don't accept what we say, you're not an honest-hearted individual".

Anyway, got me to thinking about where the term "honesthearted" originates. The Society uses it a lot, but it has no scriptural origin (I searched the NWT). It appears 205 times in the WT in a hyphenated form, 188 times as a single word (as in this issue of the WT), but not once in the Scriptures.

7 Jehovah has appointed Jesus as Judge; hence, we do not have the right to judge anybody. That is fitting, since—unlike Jesus—we can judge only by the "mere appearance to [our] eyes" or "the thing heard by |our] ears," whereas Jesus can read the intimate thoughts and reasonings of the heart—Isa. 11:1-5; 2 Tim. 4:1.

That was from page 14. Show that paragraph to the next Judicial Committee that drags you into a back room, and ask them:

    • How do you judge me fairly when Isa. 11 clearly says you can only judge by the "mere appearance to [your] eyes"?
    • If Jehovah or the WTBTS has granted you special abilities to judge me or others in the congregation, why has he not extended that ability so you can judge those in the field, and help speed up the work?
    • In this paragraph, am I included in the word "anybody"? Are you "we"? Then how does this not apply to you?
    • Case dismissed. Can I go home now?
    • May I rephrase that last question? "GOODBYE! I'M GOING HOME NOW!"

I wonder if we are making too much of this change. The society has always said that their would be anoited at the GT. In addition, those on this board read the publications far more closely than does any of the r&f. These wt studies will just be another dronning of the same crap they hear every week. No one will notice any significant change in doctrine.

Yet again we learn that obedience to the F&DS equates to obedience to Christ:

As they lend their support to their anointed brothers, members of the great crowd are being trained as the foundation of the new human society that will exist after Armageddon. That foundation must be solid and stable, and its members must be willing and able to carry out the direction of the Master. Each Christian is being given the opportunity to demonstrate that he can be used by the King, Christ Jesus.By exercising faith and displaying loyalty now, he shows that he will respond well when the King gives him directions in the new world.

It doesn't appear that the 12 tribes spoken of in Mt 19:28 being identified as mankind in general is new. I have posted 10/15/95 WT below which identifies it as such.

19 Are we thus justified in concluding that Jesus sits down on a glorious throne in the specific role of Judge? Yes. Jesus told the apostles: "In the re-creation, when the Son of man sits down upon his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also yourselves sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel." (Matthew 19:28) Although Jesus is now King of the Kingdom, his further activity mentioned at Matthew 19:28 will include sitting on a throne to judge during the Millennium. At that time he will judge all mankind, the righteous and the unrighteous.

thanks for finding that quote Isaac - i didn't think it was a new idea but didn't remember a specific on it. it's just very interesting there are 3 types of 'twelve tribes of israel' - the literal one, the 144,000, and general mankind. Let's see how many other meanings we can throw at it as it suits us...LOL

    WHEN CHRISTIANS ARE

    Sifted as Wheat

    S

HORTLY before his death, Jesus warned his disciples: "Look! Satan has demanded to have you men to sift you as wheat." (Luke 22:31) What did he mean by that?

In Jesus' day, harvesting wheat took much time and effort. First, harvesters gathered the wheat stalks from the field. Then, they beat the stalks against a hard surface or used farm animals to pull a threshing sledge over the stalks to break them into pieces. This process dislodged the grain from the stalks and the husks. Next, the farmers tossed the mixture into the air. The kernels, or whole seeds of grain, fell back onto the threshing floor, while the breeze blew the chaff away. Finally, the kernels were carefully sifted to remove from them any undesirable materials.

True to Jesus' words, Satan relentlessly attacked Jesus' disciples back then, and he attacks us today. (Eph. 6:11) It is true, not every difficulty we face in life is directly caused by Satan. (Eccl. 9:11) Still, Satan is eager to use any means at his disposal to break our integrity. For example, he may tempt us to follow a materialistic lifestyle, to choose unwholesome entertainment, or to engage in immoral sexual behavior. He may also use associates at school or at work and unbelieving relatives to pressure us into pursuing to the full all

that this world has to offer in schooling and careers. Furthermore, Satan may use outright persecution in an effort to break our integrity to God. Of course, there are many other ways that Satan uses to sift us, as it were.

How can we stand against this powerful enemy? We cannot do so in our own strength. Satan is stronger than we are; however, we know that Jehovah is immeasurably stronger than Satan is. If we have full confidence in Jehovah, pray earnestly for the wisdom and courage to endure, and rely fully on his guidance, he will strengthen us to resist Satan's at-tacks.-Ps. 25:4, 5.

When under test, we need to have the ability to "distinguish both right and wrong" and thus avoid being misled by Satan's schemes. (Heb. 5:13,14) Jehovah can help us to develop that ability. Then we need to stick to the right course, no matter what. If we follow Jehovah's guidance, he will unfailingly support our courageous determination to do what is right.-Eph. 6:10.

Satan may try to sift us as wheat. But in Jehovah's strength, we can take our stand against him, solid in the faith. (1 Pet. 5:9) Yes, Jehovah's Word assures us: "Oppose the Devil, and he will flee from you."—Jas. 4:7.

You have got to love that last page ! It says it all to me. This is there way of trying to fulfill a prophecy.
