The family is not receiving that much money, considering they have 12 children.

They shouldnt be receiving any in my view - if they want to have 12 children they should have means to pay for them and provide for them properly.

Years ago 12 children were a large family, but not unbelievable. Large families were the norm. No one thought they were "breeders' for doing this. Children were a blessings, not an embarrassment.

Back then, people only had children if they could afford to raise them - they didnt expect the government to pay for it - which is perhaps why the 'large family' of yester year has diminished.

What annoys me is that those in dire need of assistance such as the elderly and the infirm lose out. Elderly people dying in winter because they cant afford to put the heating on is ridiculous when you have a family of two adults plus 12 kids who refuse to work bleeding the government dry. The desrepair of our 'state pension' is largely because the benefits system is abused by such freeloading bastards.

What annoys the fuck out of me is that this family will receive over the next 16-20 years what equates to £1.5m or $3m in benefits plus a house worth £500k or $1m.

One family - £2m in benefits - go figure and then tell the widower war veteran pensioner why he cannot have a state pension that covers bare necessities.

I have a good job, good salary, but I am on a constant treadmill to maintain this lifestyle and my job is never secure unless I excel at what I do. It makes me mad to think that this family do not have to worry about maintaining the lifestyle they do - they just fill in the forms and it all gets paid directly into their bank account on a fortnightly basis. They dont even have to go to the post office anymore on a monday morning to collect it - lazy bastards!

Most self respecting families work, look after their children and maintain a lifestyle according to their means which they fund directly out of their efforts. This family does half of this and yet has everything on a plate - go figure!

This is absolutely disgusting! Where is personal responsibility. I work my ass off as working office manager and put in about 50 hours a week and make less around 30K a year and pay more than 20% in taxes in addition to sales tax and cannot even afford to buy a new car to get back and forth from work since gas and auto insurance is so high and I have to pay for a place to live and food, etc. The sad part is that people like me cannot afford to own a home even half that value due to the taxes that would have to be paid and the utilities.

Greendawn if you think they are doing such a noble thing, why dont you volunteer to just pay your portion of taxes to them and make out a check to the order of that family and bypass the government. As far as their kids to, more than likely they will grow up thinking they are entitled to everything instead of having to earn what they have.

eclipse ... my, my, my ... such hostility :) You really think Mary needs your help?

As for the article at hand ... read ... 2Thes 3:10. ... basically he who does not work, does not eat.

Of course Mary does not need my help, she is entirely capable of defending herself against arrogant JW's apologists like yourself.

It does not take much effort.

Perhaps if you weren't so abrasive and haughty, you would be treated with kid-gloves.

Where did I say that I agree that this freeloading couple deserve any of the free handouts?

You arrogantly preaching to me only proves that you are a presumptuous self-righteous drone.

Please refrain from preaching to me again. You are neither qualified or welcome.

Seriously, take your holier than thou attitude and leave it where it belongs - in the kingdumb hall.

You obviously fit right in with all the rest of the self-righteous pharisees, but being that you are just a woman (according to JW dogma), I'll grant you the special title of grunt.

I simply think it's a very interesting commentary on socialism. And then it can lead into all sorts of questions about societal values (i.e, the "family values" movement in America--never mind deleted because I could write volumes on the contradictions),

Then you can go into feminism, it's just so damn fascinating! Not to mention the death of cultures and ethnicities....the importing of immigrants to help support aging/dying populations...then the handover of said land/culture to those immigrants. And so the rhythm of life goes....as it has eons before us

Go on, I'm fascinated with all the differing opinions.

Actually, eclipse, with all due respect, my comment about a person not working should not eat was not directed to you.

It was directed to the topic at hand.

    wednesday:

Years ago 12 children were a large family, but not unbelievable. Large families were the norm. No one thought they were "breeders' for doing this.

And except in very wealthy families the children went to work as soon as they could to pay for their upbringing. They weren't funded by anybody else.

Children were a blessings, not an embarrassment.

That's a rather rosy view of the past. In reality, most families dreaded the arrival of yet another mouth to feed. The invention of reliable contraception has improved the lot of mankind - and especially womankind - beyond measure. It's worth noting that when given the choice most people choose to have fewer children and to raise them better. Those who choose otherwise should of course be free to do so, but not at my expense.

The family is not receiving that much money, considering they have 12 children.

Yes they are. You seem to be forgetting that they haven't earned a penny of the money they've received. It has all been taken by force from people who have earned it. The fact that they chose to have twelve children doesn't entitle them to money they didn't earn.

The state of welfare in the USA is deplorable. People having to live like animals.

Nonsense. People come to the USA from all over the world because it's a country that rewards hard work. Those who work hard will succeed. Even those considered to be in the depths of poverty live better than the kings of previous generations.

Re the comment on my post saying "this is complete bollocks", if you want to be offensive, diamondblue1974, then just think about how crass your own comment is, after reading the following:

You plainly don't understand human psychology. All people who don't have a serious problem want good, well paid, interesting work. There is a certain satisfaction in earning ones own living. That some people are unable to is an indictment against society, not the individual. There are too many unscrupulous "entrepreneurs" and 'fat cat business men who will get other people working for them and pay little or nothing in return for hard physical graft. They will then at their convenience discard them like so much rubbish. As for the huge pay gap you try to justify, no one, no matter how skilled or qualified they are is worth the enormous wages some people 'earn' but everyone should have a chance to earn a living wage. The article showed that Mr Gillespie would have worked if he could have earned a living wage to support his family. Your attitude reflects that of the kingdom hall hypocrites, uncaring, unfeeling and unkind. I remember how they used to say, 'If I can do it, anyone can'. But everyone is not the same are they? Who are you to judge?

How do you know that those children will never learn to pay for themselves? They certainly have more chance to make something of themselves now, given a decent environment than they would if they were forced to live in the poverty and squalor some people here seem to think they deserve. Wednesday is right when he says children should be considered a blessing but certain people on this board have already judged the children in this family to be unworthy of a decent life.

As for irresponsibility, I say that the very act of publicizing this family's situation is irresponsible. What does the Daily Mail think will happen to those children when they go back to school after the holidays I wonder?
