    Hi Flyinghighnow!

Thanks to former President Clinton there is the Federal law called the "Family Leave Act". Google it please. It was put in place for people to take care of emergencies in their families and for other reasons. Your employer HAS to keep your job open for you during the time. It give you 3 months and I forget how often you can take it. Of course, it's w/o pay, but it does give you the other advantages.

I had to use it while I was dealing w/my arthritis pain while I was working. I had to pay for my own health insurance at the group rate which is lower than an individual plan. But it is an option.

    Love, Juni

I just saw this thread. I am so sorry this has all happened to you. What about the Department of Social Services? Seems like you don't make alot of money, they should be able to help with food stamps etc. Also, DSS has a loan program. It is possible that they could pay your rent, and you could pay them back. If you have a chance look up your Community Action Program. HUD housing has rental assistance. You certainly would be a good candidate for assistance, having your grandchildren. How about The Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, both also help if they have funds. Good luck and please keep us posted.

One reason a leave from work would be helpful is that I could have more time to look for the services that are available. Bebu has been helpful in finding some things for me. I live in between Grand Rapids and Holland, so travel to either place and back costs almost ten dollars in gas. I am hoping for the time off and then be able to really plan any car trips to get things done in the same area and save on gas.

I have an appointment with the doctor in the morning. I have also handed in my request for leave from work. I hope one way or the other I get this done. I worked tonight and it wasn't easy, but I did it and I think my bosses are amazed. One of them said, "You're here?" Like they didn't think I was coming in after handing in my leave request. One of them is a brother, but he doesn't know I am a brother.

I just got all the car insurance junk in the mail. I have all kinds of paper work to do for Andy. Yes, I need some time off.

Mickey's caseworker, not the Michigan one, and I talked today at length. She is going to fly out here June 23rd and wants me to have my mind made up by then. If the decision is that I cannot do this, she will not take him back with her. She will arrange to get him the next month. She was very kind. I think she'd like to see me keep Mickey if I possibly can. They are fighting his father in court to give me a limited guardianship.

I need to try to answer some PMs. If you have PMed and I haven't answered, I will try to. I have dial up and it takes forever for the pages to load.

Thank all of you so much. You just can't know how glad I am that I am part of this board. I have said many times that we forged a sibling bond while inside the org, but it was conditional. Outside here, we still have the bond but it's stronger and it's real. Thank you my friends.

I am going to try to answer some PMs this morning. Then a doctor's appointment at 11. I am hoping for good news on my leave request. Please pray and send good vibes if you don't pray. It all helps.

Good vibes being sent with every fibre dear! You should mention that you know that they are obligated by law to give you threemonths as per Juni's post above but that you think you can manage on whatever amount you have requested. It may help - although its not a good idea to give even veiled threats if they are not 100% necessary.

I can't believe it. I just found out I may not be granted a personal leave. I may be forced to quit my job. I am trying not to freak out.

WTF?! Where the hell is the Union Stewart in all this?! They CANNOT force you to quit your job----especially if you're unionized. What a bunch of uncaring pricks. FHN, I hope you can get your LOA. And if need be, I say you should see if you can become a lisenced Foster Care parent (how ridiculous that you have to do that in order to get funding for your grandson). That would ease up on your financial situation.

I'm sending you a PM too.

Hi everyone. I am exhausted this morning. Too late a night last night. I have a very long, over busy day ahead and possibly will have to work tonight if the medical leave doesn't go through today. I wish I could say more this morning, but I'm to Grand Rapids to drop the leave papers by and sign a release for the doctors office.

I want to thank everyone for everything. If you have sent me funds, but didn't send me a PM personally about it, please do PM so that I may send you a PM and thank you personally. Your kindness, words of support, prayers, good vibes and generosity are very, very, very much dear to us. Love from Heather and boys
