Yes, the King James may use the term "watchtower" - but that doesn't change much. Russell wasn't critical enough to avoid picking up

all sorts of occult ideas that were fads in the 1890's - like "pyramidology" and "phrenology" and the winged globe symbol and the phrase

"Golden age". The "Golden Dawn" was in vogue back then in Victorian culture, with its obsession with Egyptian symbols and black magic.

People could use "Enochian magick" complete with "Watchtowers" and the Tetragrammaton to cast spells. This stuff started much

earlier, around the time of Elizabeth I. Phrases like "International Bible Students" are neutral but using "Watchtower" as a name

is a bit like naming someone "Nazi" and seeing nothing wrong because they favor socialism on a national setting!

I don't think that Russell was much more than an eccentric who picked up pieces of faddish, popular culture in the 1890's and liked

the Bible. No need for all this Illuminati stuff.

Don't believe everything you read on the Internet.

    2Chron.20:24; Isa.21:8 - King James Version.

Further, the symbols in question used by the Watchtower are used by a number of occult groups, not just the Masons. The evidence is against Russell having been a Mason, though he shows obvious influence from some other group (or maybe through an aquaintence).

    Whoopee.

Lots of different groups have used the term watchtower, because it's a physical object. An observation tower. It's right up there with saying the word "house" has occult - and only occult - importance because some "occult" writings might have used the term. Many different groups in human history have used watch / observation towers to look for danger. Forest rangers use them today to look for forest fires but that doesn't mean the national forest service is an occult group.

Yes, some 'old school' Wiccan/NeoPagan and for all I know, Masonic groups (scuttlebut says that the original Wiccan rituals used Masonic ritual as a base but as I've never seen nor read any Masonic ritual I can't say for sure), have used the term when calling the quarters during a ritual ("Hail to the guardians of the watchtowers of the East", etc). But I've never been able to stomache that, after my experience as a JW. I just say something like "Welcome to the spirits of the East". Means the same thing, sounds less formal and impressive to some but I see no need to make my rituals sound medievalish.

Thanks for the comments so far. Some commenters noted the Watchtower to Enochian magic connection. Enough said for now.

Sorry for the length of the following quotes and may I add, I have NO disrespect for persons who are Free and Accepted Free Masons. It is the fact that I was raised in a Religion that never told me of its origins and when I was offered to become a Mason I chose not to as I thought it would be incompatible with Christainity. And that despite the fact that Free Masons are expected to be Christian I understand. I feel seriously betrayed.

In a lecture by CT Russell in Pasadena? California with the subject titled “The Temple of God” he said:

“My Topic for this afternoon, dear friends, is found in the Apostle’s words, “For the Temple of God is holy, which temple ye are” (1Cor. 3:17) As Christian people, Bible Students from all denominations, it would seem that we have something in our faith that is in sympathy and harmony with each denomination, the world over. Do our Presbyterian friends speak of the election? We more. Do our Methodist friends have the doctrine of free grace? We more. … Do our Masonic friends understand something about the Temple, and being Knights Templar, and so on? We more”

“I am very glad to have this particular opportunity of saying a word about some of the things in which we agree with our Masonic friends, because we are speaking in a building dedicated to Masonry, and we are also Masons. I am a Free Mason. I am a free and accepted Mason, if I may carry the matter to its full length, because that is what our Masonic brethren like to tell us, that they are free and accepted Masons. That is their style of putting it. Now I am a free and accepted Mason. I trust we all are.”

“And so if we talk to our Masonic friends about the Temple and its meaning, and about the Great Pyramid, which is the very emblem they use, and what the Great Pyramid signifies, our Masonic friends are astonished. On who had been a Mason a long time recently bought a lot of books that had the Great Pyramid discussed, and sent them to I am sure a thousand Masons. He paid for them and sent them out at his own expense. He wanted the Masons to see something about the Great Pyramid. He knew they were greatly interested in that. But we are not going to discuss the Great Pyramid this afternoon.. We are going to discuss free and accepted Masonry - the Bible Masonry, my dear friends.”

The Great Pyramid of Gizeh - Jehovah’s Stone Witness

In 1864 Charles Piazzi Smyth a scientist and explorer spent four months with his wife measuring and recording the pyramids on Egypt’s Giza plateau. The result was the most accurate survey of the Great pyramid up until that date. Smyth was the first person to link the pyramid to Pleiades and conclude that the structure had some prophetic meaning by linking it to the Old and New Testaments. Smyth published these ideas in the book “Our Inheritance”.

Shortly after the Smyth’s book was published a gentlemen by the name of Robert Menzies took Smyth’s idea even further by suggesting that the measurements of the internal passages of the great pyramid replicated the chronology of divine history, using an inch for a year rule. Word was now out on the street that the builders of the great pyramid had predicted the second coming of Christ and that what the bible said in words the pyramid said in stone.

In June 1876 Smyth published an article in the “Bible Examiner”, which was run by George Storrs, an Adventist, in Brooklyn New York A few years later George Storr ran a series of articles written by himself on the great pyramid and its prophetic importance in the “herald of Life” and “Coming Kingdom”.

Charles ~Taz Russell, the founder of the Watchtower, was greatly influenced by George Storrs writings and gained a lot of bible understanding from his teachings. Russell picks up the theories on the great pyramid and makes the first positive connection between the Bible and the pyramid. The connection he made was with the use of the following verses from Isaiah 19:19-20

    Russell wrote the following.

“The Pyramid is by no means an addition to the written revelation: that revelation is complete and perfect, and needs no addition. But it is strong corroborative witness to god’s plan; and few students can carefully examine it, marking the harmony of its testimony with that of the written Word, without feeling impressed that its construction was planned and directed by the same divine wisdom, and that it is the pillar of witness referred to by the prophet in the above quotation [in Isaiah]

Russell tied in the measurements of the internal passage ways of the great pyramid firstly with the predicted date of 1874 for the second coming of Christ and then his revised date of 1914. Somehow the pyramid grew 40 years in the period between. Russell also adopted the importance of Pleiades from Smyth’s original connection”

    Thy Kingdom Come (© 1891) (1904 edition — Millennial Dawn, vol 3) p.342

So, then, if we measure backward down the "First Ascending Passage" to its junction with the "Entrance Passage," we shall have a fixed date to mark upon the downward passage. This measure is 1542 inches, and indicates the year B.C. 1542, as the date at that point. Then measuring down the "Entrance Passage" from that point, to find the distance to the entrance of the "Pit," representing the great trouble and destruction with which this age is to close, when evil will be overthrown from power, we find it to be 3416 inches, symbolizing 3416 years from the above date, B.C. 1542. This calculation shows AD. 1874 as marking the beginning of the period of trouble; for 1542 years B.C. plus 1874 years AD. equals 3416 years. Thus the Pyramid witnesses that the close of 1874 was the chronological beginning of the time of trouble such as was not since there was a nation -- no, nor ever shall be afterward. And thus it will be noted that this "Witness" fully corroborates the Bible testimony on this subject...

One of the links didn't copy correctly, it is

    Also see:

and as regards hidden pictures and subliminal artwork try the following:

PAGE 132 : KNOWLEDGE THAT LEADS TO EVERLASTING LIFE BOOK

    (1995 FIRST PRINTING IN ENGLISH)

FOLD PAGE OVER LIKE A LETTER “Z” AND FLATTEN DOWN.

(The glowing throne will not be seen)

THERE IS A PICTURE OF A SKULL OVER A PYRAMID, AND ON THE PYRAMID IS A MASONIC “COMPASS AND SQUARE”.

CHARLES TAZE RUSSELL THE WATCHTOWER FOUNDER IS REPORTED TO HAVE BEEN A 33 RD DEGREE FREE-MASON.

THE VIEW OF THE PYRAMID IS THE SAME AS THE ONE ON THE BACK OF THE $1 BILL AND C.T. RUSSELL’S CEMETARY MONUMENT IS A PYRAMID LIKE THE ONE ON THE BACK OF THE $1 BILL.

C.T. RUSSELL’S PYRAMID MONUMENT READS “WATCHTOWER” ON IT.

    And:

PAGE 93 : YOU CAN LIVE FOREVER IN PARADISE ON EARTH BOOK

    (1982, 1989 73 MILLIONth COPY)

LOOK AT PAGE RIGHT-SIDE UP TO SEE THE FOLLOWING:

THE PROFILE OF A SKULL WITH THE TOP JAW-BONE MISSING. IT IS LOOKING LEFT AND IS ON THE LEFT-SIDE OF THE ILLUSTRATION.

A PICTURE OF A HEAD (FROM SHOULDERS UP) ABOUT AS LARGE AS THE SKULL LOOKING LEFT-WARD IN THE MIDDLE.

TWO PEOPLE CAN BE SEEN EMBRACING IN THE BOTTOM OF THE SKULL’S JAW.

    TURN UP-SIDE DOWN.

ON THE LEFT IS THE PROFILE OF A WOMAN’S FACE LOOKING LEFT. IT IS ABOUT AS LARGE AS THE SKULL AND IS PART OF THE RIGHT-SIDE UP SKULL.

LOOK UP FROM WHERE THE WOMAN IS LOOKING. THERE IS A MAN’S FACE LOOKING DOWN AT HER.

LOOK AT WHERE THE WOMAN IS LOOKING, THERE IS A SCENE WITH TWO MEN, ONE BEHIND THE OTHER, LOOKING DOWN AT A CHILD WITH ARMS STRETCHED OVER-HEAD. A CROSS IS SEEN JUST RIGHT OF THE RIGHT MAN’S ARM,

THE CHILD’S HEAD CAN ALSO BE SEEN AS THE MOUTH OF A STYLIZED DEVIL FACE WITH A VERTICLE HORN LOOKING STRAIGHT AHEAD.

And the people responsible for this say they are publishing “life giving truths!”

These images are hard to see for some people but the woman's face in profile is remarkable and once you see it you can't not see it when you look at it again.

I google / MSN searched for "Watchtower subliminal art" or similar and found professional artist who have disected the illustrations and it gets really weird.

I wondered how the information against VooDoo... spiritistic practices could be reconciled with the spiritistic nature of the subliminal artwork. I note: The Watchtower has never written ( to my memory and I spent 45years in that org) against Wicca or those types of black arts / magic only JuJu, VooDoo, fortune telling, ... and as usual they can't stand competition! The poosibility exists that the writers may in many cases be unwitting dupes and don't know the DARK SIDE or the WTBTS org.

Ahh, the subliminal images. I was wondering when you'd work your way to the pareidolia. Well played.

What else are you holding back? I haven't read all of your mixed-font cut-and-paste, but have you gotten to "The Watchtower Study is a hypnotism session?"

Russell may have been a mason and was definetly inflenced by the interest in the occult that was prevelant in the Victorian era. I believe Russel though he could connect everything together as though they were all talking about the same thing.

The only real issue is that the WTS tries to hide all the contraversial stuff which is more damning than anything else.
