I had to take my laptop to get some specialist software put on it last night so for the next 3 days or so I can only visit here when I'm at work.

I was suffering separation anxiety within an hour of handing over my precious machine

What am I going to do on the evenings now??

I could spend a few hours on the phone talking the Samaritans to death I suppose.

    Dear Diary,

Getting ready for my housecleaning job. Looks like I'm re-reinventing myself for an-another stab at the typical JW/Work situation. One element missing, however. Money's money. Can't be picky anymore.
Cheer and love and peace to my friends!

    Dear Diary,

Well, here I am, back from my job - a little flusher and with 4 copies of READER'S DIGEST! Can't wait to read about Drew Barrymore. When I was at the book store recently I found a biography of Ethel Barrymore [Drew's great (great?) aunt]. Going through the photos of E.B. in her youth, I found the resemblance unreal. They could've been sisters for near identical looks.
The day is so beautiful and warm, here on Walden Pond, and gentle zephyrs are wafting about. I do hope the rains have begun in the tropics, and the sweet little chocco is growing strong and healthy for his adoring mum. And Dobie's mum is very much in tune with his special senses. Whodda thunk - "Dot and Toto [too]" crashing down in the 'hood! Hope, too, that Chick is singing his mellow tune, and all the nectar-gathering Busy Beasties about find delight in their fields of flowers.
    Friendship is a beautiful thing!

    Dear Diary,

I guess tonight's the night, and only now have I discovered it's the night. Sean Bianco's "Friday Night at the Opera," on NPR, is presenting Puccini's TOSCA, featuring Maria Callas in the title role. I don't know if my heart can take it. The Drama Queen and singing sensation of her generation. Of course, fans of Renata Tebaldi would shout "No Way!" Probably more than mere shouting. I saw no live performances of Miss Callas in her heyday, much to my chagrin. What she could do with her voice [considered "ugly" by her detractors] for dramatic effect was virtually without equal. And her surreal capacity of inserting herself into the role - BECOMING Norma, the mother torn with grief, or her antithesis, Medea - held her audience captive - spellbound. "Spellbound" seems an inadequate term.
    I must psyche myself up.

I was meaning to thank you for that. I'm begining to think you are a miracle worker CoCo! The very day after you wished for rain for me it rained hard, and it woke me in the night- it rained so hard. Ah, just one more reason to be so very fond of you :)
I continue to read your entries daily but don't usually comment since as Restrangled said, you are so accomplished- (in things I know so little about).

Usually every evening, 30 minutes or so. Depends on the topics.

    Dear Diary,

The tenor's closing aria in TOSCA - the rapturous beauty of Puccini's exquisite melody, the voice of il tenore wrapping around, then weaving itself throughout - am I still breathing? It is of another world. It surrounds and embraces me, so gently and with such tenderness, then, forgetting me, soars to the heights! YOU must listen to this glorious tribute to high drama and the sublime "bella voce." [I believe the tenor's aria, Act III, is "E lucevan le stelle" - "When the stars were brightly shining."] Maria Callas, Giuseppe di Stefano, Tito Gobbi - 1953 production, EMI recording.
Miss Ann Tropics - you are so kind and dear. I am a mere autodidact: self-taught, glutton for knowledge and learning. I have stacks of books and dictionaries on my kitchen table, astride my "Dear Diary" machinery. And of course, the radio, ever on NPR and the classics. I'm reading everything I can get my hands on, then "excitedly" passing it on to you! Do you feel the energy?!?!? It's all about planting a seed. The aim? To stir up interest in a multitude of wonderful new worlds of exploration. I am a humble educator who continues with this little entry because of your very first words of encouragement to me a month ago.
Bless you, and bless you again!

    Dear Diary,

A new day is beckoning, yet the sky is still diamonds and Apollo prepares his sweep across the approaching azure. I await patiently.
Wishing all freedom of the spirit and a heart no longer burdened by past sorrows. Yesterday's impossibility may become today's reality. Alive to a new day and happy prospects....

    Dear Diary,

Off to the gallery. Hope something has sold. All business seems off this time of year. Property taxes, community fees, et cetera, et cetera ["The King and I"]. A couple years back, the first five months of the year were terrible for a whole string of shops in what is normally the "location, location, location" center of the community. Many pay $3,000 a month, and more, for rent. Utilities are prohibitive, too, in winter.
    I should have such worries.

Off to the gallery. Hope something has sold.

Are you giving us another hint as to your talents? Are you an artist as well as a musician?

    r.
