I have a concern about this forum

I'm still a relative newbie, so I hope I am not speaking out of turn here.

When I first started posting here, there were a couple of very outspoken JW apologists active on the board. While I often felt they were insensitive, didn't grasp the level of hurt experienced by others here, and frequently condescending in how they spoke to people here, they could hold their own in a debate and stay on topic. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, after all.

Recently, we have had some apologists here who have added an entirely different flavour to the board. Some have gotten banned, others have not.

As Lady Lee said in another thread, "The insults have got to stop."

I am guilty of this, too. Being a survivor of abuse, having someone call us liars and belittle our feelings....I allowed their insensitive attitudes to get to me.

Certain ones have stirred up trouble in nearly every thread they post on, and they do it by hurling childish insults, posting nonsense that doesn't have anything to do with the topic and speaking more condescendingly to well-respected posters on here than Reniaa ever did.

The last couple of weeks, I have noticed this speech pattern has come out more and more ( I include myself, as well. ) Please let's not these socially inept individuals cause us to speak to each other that way, too.

Many have counselled us to ignore these individuals. I've seen that done here effectively. Either way, let's not allow ourselves to become like them.

No matter how much we are belittled or doubted for being "friends" here, I do feel a kinship and respect for almost everyone here. In fact, I can hardly even think of anyone here that I wouldn't listen to and consider what they have to say.

I hope the flavour of this board doesn't change.

    Palm

palmtree, you said what I was trying to say when I just posted the thread "wrong reasons-please stop"...the two replies I have gotten so far have been...interesting. Thank you for saying this more diplomatically than I ;).

Oh, sorry, jdub, I didn't see your topic.

    Have we met?

    Hello, and Welcome!

When I think about posting to a thread, I usually try to consider it a Discussion Forum - a place to have an actual discussion.

Not a hostile, middle-school play ground.

I also consider that there may be many cautious people lurking and waiting for an answer to move them.

The childishness is a huge turnoff for me.

No, don't apologize, I think it's funny (ironic, more than funny) that we posted that at the same time.

We have not met, but I don't think this site is for me, honestly...thank you for the first kind words I received on here.

Palmtree67,, perfectly said and I agree with you completely. This childishness needs to stop now.

This is the reason we have to quit spending time with these ones. The points they bring up have already been debated and talked about here. If they have a concern, they can read the past threads. If they have something to add, by all means, start a thread. But, they are just posting nonsense.

Some here need help and support.

This is the kind of stuff people here say to me:

"And once again, Alice in La-la-land, does not acknowledge any of the points I made. She knows full well that Avashai offered her first hand evidence of what happened to him. Even though it's been brought to her attention numerous times, she simply ignores it and just changes topics. Alice comes across as a very disturbed person. I will venture a guess that "Alice" has few (if any friends), is obviously shunned by her congregation and gets a warped thrill of self-importance along with the 'persecution factor' whenever her hypocritical comments are examined on here. I guess she must think that 'any attention is better than no attention at all'---sort of like a 5 year old.

"Alice, you've been shown plenty of evidence. Avashai gave you his first hand account and even named names, yet as per usual you just ignored it. Even the WTS's official site admitted in November of 2007 that they had settled a lawsuit with "the victims" because they knew the evidence was such, that it would not go well for them at all if they tried fighting it anymore. Yet you still continue to spew your mindless drivel on here, ignoring anything that goes against your preconceived ideas that they never really covered anything up.

Keep going Alice. You're an excellent example for any lurkers on here as to what the mindset of JW is. Even though you're hypocritically 'inactive'"

I NEVER get this kind of stuff from anyone I ever encounter in society, not from friends, relatives, acquaintances. I only get this from strangers on this forum. Religion and politics effect people's personal lives but sending this kind of garbage to a complete stranger says something about a person. I have responded with foul remarks when getting this stuff but I never initiate these kinds of discussions.

    Here this was said:

    http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/194987/1/The-Jehovahs-Witness-family-weekend

"Having been out of the organisation for over 4 years and having finally released my kids from the hellish existence that is life as a JW, it struck me today how enjoyable our weekends are in comparison to when we were JW's.

Jehovah's Witnesses deprive children of a proper childhood in my opinion. It's criminal."

There are plenty of people that would find the above comments offensive, that's why I pinpointed these two comments. Sometimes what is offensive is a matter of perception. There's plenty of second opinions if they are needed. (outside this forum) I said this in response to it:

If everyone experienced this “hellish existence” as one of Jehovah's Witnesses there wouldn't be any. I was raised as a Witnesses and had I actually did what my parents asked, I'd be a much better adult. I took a wrong turn at the age of 15 moving in with my disfellowshipped mother. I could see through these damning expressions (hellish, criminal) and they didn't mean a thing to me after five seconds of thinking. It's interesting to see that if something “isn't for me” some people feel the need to ruin what isn't for them for everyone else. Good luck with that.

I received a very classy response from one person:

"Alice Rachel, why don't you kiss our collective F****** asses?"

Something else is I don't necessarily believe personal stories people tell from complete online strangers if it's disparaging to a person or organization, unless it's something I can confirm. Most people would agree with me.
