I thought I would open up a thread on firearms and shooting. Personally I was raised around firearms as my Dad was not a JW. Some of my earliest memories are of my Dad teaching me how to put a round in a fleas ass at 200 meters. I now have a large collection of firearms, (and a class 03 FFL for Curios and Relics) and shoot at least on a monthy basis. (Best guess is that I shoot somewhere around 5000 rounds per year, sometimes a lot more, and at least 25 percent of that is 7.62x51 Mike Mike) I'm also a Range Officer at the local rifle range.

My favorite rifles are my Springfield M1A, and my GI M1 Carbine I purchased from Fulton Armory. My favorite handguns are my two Springfield .45's. I have the GI and Mil-Spec.

I have also been reloading for more than 10 years, and I'm a big fan of Dillon and RCBS.

Needless to say my views never were very popular with the Elders or most brothers. The weenies.

I'm with you on this one Justice. I don't shoot or hunt anymore because my circumstances have change,

however, at one point in my life I had to hunt for food for the table. It's unfortunate that many people

deride hunters and shooters when they have no idea what they are talking about; they have no idea what

the hunter's " high' is like . . . .even if it's just walking the woods, trying to outsmart your game. I feel

sorry for people like that, but like ELmore Leonard saus, the great crimer, " They have the brain of a

chicken and they believe everything they think.'

I'll take being a Hillbilly type over your average city type any day. Us Hillbillies can feed our families even if the stores all close. As was said in one of my favorite movies, "we can hunt, we can fish. We can stay up here a long long time." Does anyone remember what movie thats from? Here's another one from a song...."We can skin a buck, we can run a trotline, a country boy can survive." Some of the best times in my life have been spent in the Florida swamp with my boys hunting and watching the sun come up. There is something special about the swamp and the heavy ground fog as the the first sun rays begin to come though.

And wild game has alway's been very good eating in my book. Like Ted Nugent say's "You Can't Grill It, 'Till You Kill It." In my time I have had....Squirl, Rabbit, Groundhog, Quail, Pheasant, Grouse, Duck, Dove, Venison, Moose, and Bear. Gee, I'm making myself hungry. There is just nothing like a bear sandwich. Ohh I almost forgot, rattlesnake is a fine meal.

BTW, I do like blowing stuff up, how did you know?

Personally, I'm grateful that we live in a specialised capitalist society where I don't have to kill and dress my own critters in order to survive. But that doesn't mean I'm some palid hippy that doesn't see the point of hunting and related pursuits. Recently I read that a booming deer population in Massachussets was eating the forests down to the ground. I also read somewhere that they don't take much of a likin' to guns in them thar parts...

I of course I'm also happy that there is a store on the corner. But I truely believe that being raised on a farm and having country skills is a good thing. And that does not make me an uneducated hick. Well, maybe a Hick, but one that is soon going to have a degree in Justice.
