  Why are there so many loonies in the organization?

  you know the type... always going on about how their car got possessed by the devil because someone left a pack of cigarettes in it.

  or maybe their pots and pans started flying around the house because they bought something from a garage sale.. there are also the types who won't eat skittles because they contain an ingredient made from dried and crushed beetles... which means that they were not properly bled.. and the types who won't let their kids watch cartoons because the animals talk... like satan did with the snake.. then there are they types who are always into the latest get-rich-quick scam... or amway and trying to get everyone in the congregation to buy something.. oh, and don't get me started about the demon possessed smurfs who run around kingdom halls swearing and accosting the women with their teeny-peenies.. what's up with this!?!?

  I think "the organization" attracts, cultivates, and breeds paranoia. My mom was a paranoid person before she joined. Not to the JW degree she is now but she was into conspiracy theories, generally suspicious of the government, loved ghost stories, and generally bucked the system at every turn. I remember her fighting with a grocery store clerk over her right to shop without shoes on, pre JW. She really likes the us against them mentality and thrives on thinking demons are around every corner.

  I also remember the beetle thing only for us it was the red 5 Alive juice that was colored with beetles.

  Why don't they preach on TV or Radio?

  we all know that witnesses go door to door in order to give bible studies.

  but since their message is so important to them, why don't they use all the available methods in order to reach out to the most people possible.

  we live in an era of telecommunications, wireless phones, internet, and so on.

  I saw one of the public service messages not that long ago a couple of times. The first time I saw it I thought it was one of the Mormon commercials. It was really late at night, my husband & I usually only watch T.V. at like 2 or 3 am. We were both laughing at the commercial it was something about loving families and his only contact with mine has been strained at best.

  Elsewhere-

  The JW's I knew thought they were possessed by Satan because:

  1) Gargamel's a wizard

  2) Azreal the cat's name is also the name of a demon or spirit.

  3) Smurfs are alot like the elves, sprites, brownies, kokapelis, and other miscelaneous woodland spirits of pagan mythology.

  4) According to out KH legend a lady in Chicago's grandchild was clawed by smurfs who came alive off their curtains. Undeniable proof of the Smurfs demonization.

  5) JW's are paranoid and delusional. I was also not allowed to watch Scooby Doo because they are always running into witches, ghosts, and other demonic forces on their wacky adventures. I tried to argue that it's always old man ______ in a mask to no avail.

  Is Having Kids Worth It?

  ok, i'm a single female in her early 30s looking for someone to settle down with.

  i'd like to have kids, but the trouble with dating guys who are over 30 is that by now most have a kid and/or have decided they don't want any/more.

  so i am getting faced with the dilemma of maybe finding that someone special, but he may not want to have kids.

  Francois' statement may sound harsh but also rings of truth. My personal opinion is that kids are a risk but I think they are worth it. Among my cousins and sibling we have kids who grew up to be bethelites, bartenders, loggers, street thugs, addicts, and some who are just starting college. You can't pick their personalities all you can do is love them and try your best by them.

  It sounds like you need to listen to your heart and head in this matter if you want kids and the man your with does not. That signals a big problem later in the relationship. You may feel resentment towards him later. Just make sure it is your decision together and not just his.

  Take the advice from the girl married 9 years with no kids with a grain of salt!

  I work for an Indian Casino as a bartender. I'm fortunate in working for a great employer who offers full benefits. I've been there 9 years and have 22 paid vacation days left this year (I've already used a couple days and given a week each to 2 hospitalized employees) 4 sick days, Funeral Leave, and they have an hour bank for pregnancies. Our vacation pay accrues based on hours worked and you can bank up to 200 hours vacation time from one year to the next. Most people where I live get no benefits and are lucky if they get any paid vacations at all. It's all mining around here and the mines are all closing down leaving many with few job options let alone ones with any sort of benefits or pay.

  JW funeral! Help!

  my grandma died yesterday.

  i love her very much and miss her terribly.

  she joined the jw's late in life after years of my mom coaxing her to join.

  i remember when i was going over my baptismal questions the elder spouted off this scripture to me.. looking back at it i wonder how could he be such a moron!

  I got baptized the summer between 7th & 8th grade. I thought they would catch my lack of faith when I did the pre baptism study with the elders thing and when they didn't to my suprise and horror I just went with the flow. My brother at 16 was bribed by my mom to get baptized with the promise of being the man of the house. (single parent) After his baptism there were only short prayers before meals, mom read the text with a napkin on her head, and we went to the no more family watchtower study / study on your own plan.
