Sadly, none. They're more firmly entrenched than ever.

Did you buy new clothes for the Memorial?
by MsMcDucket ini was just wondering how many people went out and bought new clothes for the memorial.
did you feel like it was a festive holiday like easter or did you just feel like it was another meeting that you had to attend?
-
Emma
No. It always reminded my mom of Easter and the show people made. She grew up poor and couldn't afford new clothes and felt bad on Easter Sunday. When we were growing up, she taught us the memorial was a serious occasion. She also reminded us that those who couldn't afford new things might feel bad, and that our not going for "showy" stuff could help. I raised my kids the same way. Don't know if it was right or wrong but no regrets.
I knew people who deliberately went all out because it was the one time of year; I didn't quite get it.

I'm surprised you got that far before being hit. They felt entitled to take advantage of your generosity (theo warfare) and then turned nasty.
This ambushing happened to me when my dad was dying from cancer. I was inactive and had told my family there was nothing I was going to discuss with any of them. My sisters phoned to arrange a meeting so we could plan out how we were going to help my mom care for my dad. They outright promised they'd respect my wish not to talk about what had "happened." They got me on the inside seat of a booth at a restaurant and let me have it; I was silent, refused to give them even one word to get me with. People in the restaurant were looking at us; voices must have gotten raised. My sister told me they promised my mom everything would be "fixed" with me when they got back. I never heard from anyone again until my dad was dead.

You might get a call when the co's due to visit. Or they'll make up a story for him. My b.o.e. told my family how hard they'd tried to help me - phone calls, visits, etc. It never happened.

Winter Olympics
by pratt1 inhave you been watching the winter olympics?.
the ratings are very low this year, however i am watching most of the events, especially the skiing and the speed skating.. it's unfortunate that chad hedricks and shani davis, seem to be at odds over shani's decision not to race in the team event, in favor of saving himself to compete for an individual medal.. hedricks seem bitter, but davis has handled the situation with class.. also the opening ceremonies were fantastic.
italy put on a great show.. what's your take on the winter olympics..

I'm running on sleep deficit since I usually go to bed well before the coverage ends. I do enjoy watching many of the events.
Infamous, why?
i hate to compliment the italians

Dick Cheney involved in a shooting
by IP_SEC ini saw this in the news paper today.
busted a gut laughing.. reuters.. washington (reuters) - the white house was bombarded with questions on monday about why it failed to go public with news that vice president dick cheney shot a fellow quail hunter until the day after the accident.. the victim, harry whittington, 78, took pellets in his cheek, neck and chest when cheney fired his shotgun while aiming for a bird during a hunt in southern texas on saturday, and was in stable condition at a corpus christi hospital.. whittington was moved out of intensive care on monday afternoon but peter banko, administrator of christus spohn hospital, said he did not know when he would be discharged.. "his condition continues to be stable ... it's not critical, it's not serious.
he's in stable condition, doing extremely well," banko said.. the accident happened about 5:30 p.m. on a private ranch about 200 miles south of san antonio, where the vice president has hunted previously.

Things are looking up; they're finally shooting each other.
(Sorry, I know it's unkind; I just couldn't help it.)
